Reporter the moon continued to take bites out of the sun though shortly before maximum shadow at 2 46 cloud cover started to obscure the view. Still those who did keep gazing upward felt rewarded. Really cool. We thought about going down to South Carolina for the total eclipse but this is just as cool. This is such a cool thing its amazing. There was a line down the block at Wills Eye Hospital in philadelphia this morning as more than 2,000 people got their hands on a free pair of those approved glasses. The entire batch was gone in an hour. I feel like i just won a million dollars. I finally got the glasses. If youre wondering if you can keep your pair for the next Solar Eclipse in april 2024, check the label. Some of the glasses do have an expiration date. The ones we saw today expire in 2021. Well, they had their eyes glued on the eclipse at various libraries throughout New Castle County including the Garfield Park location on carolyn drive. Some residents had the chance to look through a special telescope that allowed that em to see the sun and to see the eclipse with the color of the sun. Much a similar scene at the Folcroft Public Library in Delaware County. Their eclipse event included messages from a member of the Delaware County astronomers association. Reporter i tell you, jim, it was a complete outer body experience. I had images and thoughts in my head of what it would be like if i was to see and experience totality but let me tell you, this afternoon it was magnet i was magnified by tens of thousands and i wasnt the only one that had their heart pounding all day long. This field that im standing in was really the field of dreams for so many in this country as well as around the world. This Massive Watch Party in a field on the airport brought people together from all over the world. Everyone hoping to see the same thing, totality. As many tried to get a glimpse of the moon blocking the sun rain started to fall and all folks started hope started to wash away a so many packed um and left before totality arrived. But then a 32nd window opened up in the sky for all to see at 1 06 p. M. Darkness had taken over and it paid off for all those who planted their feet including derek pitts from the Franklin Institute. Twain it was incredibly dark here much darker than expected. Even with the cloud cover it was just fantastic and you could see the light appear now as being unusual and different.
