"action news" reporter walter perez is live at the school tonight. walter, what's the situation? >> reporter: well, jim, tonight's meeting is at the district administration building on chancellor street in newtown at 7 o'clock. that meeting follows assemblies with students earlier today and there's another meeting with parents tomorrow night all indications that council rock officials are taking these cases very, very seriously. what you see here is just one example of several acts of vandalism and harassment at council rock north high school in newtown in the wake of the presidential election but robin johnson whose daughter attends countiesville rock north says there were other incidents that predate the election. johnson says her daughter took this photo back in september of a classmate way flag including the confederate banner draped around his shoulders inside the school. mrs. johnson says it seems to be developing into a disturbing trend. >> and we're hurting. the school, the children, the parents, the community is hurting and we need to fix and we need to fix it immediate ill. over the past several days students have reported other hate filled messages directed at latinos and the gay communities the student with swastikas inside bathroom stalls. one students reported finding a note in her backpack telling her to go back to mexico. we spoke with a few council rock students who say they're saddened but not surprised. >> not the first time people have written inappropriate things on the bathroom walls. >> there's always going to be someone who is not with the norm and it's not the norm that they're acting like this so i think we need to get past that. >> reporter: all this come in the wake of threatening messages targeting african-american freshmen at the the university of pennsylvania. those messages have now been linked to three people in oklahoma including a student at the university of oklahoma who has since been suspended from the school. robin johnson says in dealing with these situations involving young people moms and dads need to be a part of it. >> you have to get the parents involved. you have to get the community involved and together you can start the healing process. >> reporter: meanwhile the investigation to find the vandals responsible for all this is being followed up by the district and the newtown police department. anyone with any information is asked to call the authorities. reporting live from newtown, walter perez channel6 "action news." jim. >> walter thank you. philadelphia police continue their search tonight for more suspects in that flash mob attack in center city. two 16-year-olds are under arrest for the attacks that began at 16th and walnut saturday evening. witnesses say a group of people randomly assaulted pedestrians. in all, six people were hurt including an off duty police detective who was seriously injured trying to break up a fight. no students were hurt when a school bus collided with a car in the kensington section of philadelphia this afternoon. the crash happened just before 4 o'clock near the intersection of lehigh avenue and jasper street. police say the driver of the car that hit the bus was hurt but the injuries aren't serious. police in chester are still trying to locate the hit-and-run driver who seriously injured a 65-year-old woman earlier this month. it happened virtually in front of the victim's home in the 2000 block or make that the 200 block of west ninth street as "action news" reporter john rawlins, john what's the full story? >> reporter: jim this happened nine nights ago. about 8:15 in the evening the victim parked her suv on this side of the street and was apparently in the process of walking the 50 or 60 feats to her house when she was struck by a car. today her daughter made this plea to the car's driver. >> turn herself in 'cause this could be her mother, her sister, her cousin. anything. she needs to turn had your several in. >> reporter: tammy mcneil speaking of the woman believed behind the wheel of a dark colored car saturday november 5th which hit mcneil's mom cynthia as she crossed ninth street just steps from her home. the family says a witness saw the car stop briefly and a woman get out. >> a car coming westbound going up hit her. they turned on barclay street and stopped right up here at the light. they turned barclay street and stopped got out of the car and hollered someone dial 911 and jumped in the car. >> reporter: family and friends held a vigil here last saturday to call attention to what happened a week before. hoping someone has noticed a damaged car stashed somewhere. >> we do know that the car is heavily damaged on the front driver's side. >> reporter: hampering things the family says there are no surveillance cameras along this stretch of busy street. >> cameras is definitely needed especially on ninth street seventh street. >> reporter: cynthia mcneil remains in crozer chester with severe injuries including broken bones and possible brain damage says her only child. >> she has a three-year-old grandson. she finally got a grand child. she was wondering when i was going have a kid. now she got a three-year-old grandson. he's asking for her but what do i tell a three-year-old? he knows something's wrong he know he ain't seen nana. >> reporter: mcneil family hopes anyone who sees a car with front end damage on the driver's side as well as windshield damage they hope they will reach out to the chester police and report it. chester police of course washington, d.c. last week voters elected evans to a full term in congress but first the 62-year-old will serve out the remaining months of chaka fattah's term. pennsylvania's second congressional district which includes parts of philadelphia and montgomery county has been without a representative since june. fattah resigned shortly after being convicted of racketeering. evans says he will work with the trump administration to improve the lives of the people of philadelphia. in delaware, new castle county, council president karen heartily nagle was sworn in this afternoon. the ceremony took place at the city county building on french street in wilmington. democrat heartily nagle says her focus will be on economic development and creating jobs. coming up on "action news tonight reaction south jersey organization is in desperate need of help tonight and it's looking to the community 20 pitch in. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic has the story from trenton. >> reporter: for more than a hundred years the rescue mission of trenton has come to the aid of the homeless and the down and out but now this respected nonprofit is forced to ask for help itself. the mission is facing a $400,000 budget deficit. director its thing they can cover half that amount but need help with the rest. >> we know what our services level is going to be and we know what our income is going to be. we did not wants to wait until a crisis was upon us. >> reporter: combination of factors has led to this. the state is denying more applications for emergency assistance creating a funds crisis for shelters like the mission. the store is making less than it used to and cost for staff services and maintenance are going up. >> utilities electric water insurance just to maintain everythingism winter is the time when the demand for services here at the mission is most critical. so having money problems going into the cold season is a real cause for worry. the mission provides a place for the homeless 24/7, 365 days a year along with mental health addiction and housing services. jason burke arrived a year ago hooked on heroin with noplace to live. he's been through the program and now works as an administrative assistant. >> at a time first when you come in you may not thinks this is something that you can do. i'm here to show you that you can do it and if you work hard and you stick to your game, the rescue mission is always there to help you out. >> what we're here to do is to try to help them understand that there's at a better opportunity out there for them. they just need to want to go and get it. the mission is trying to cut costs while reaching out to foundations corporations and individuals to help stop the looming budget crisis so it can continue to help the
