someone special this weekend. >> i want everyone to remember how strong he was and how great of a kid law and how much everyone loved him and how much he impacted everyone's life. i wish he could see how much he meant to everyone. >> reporter: steven was a ninth grader and was a quarterback and captain of the central bucks west high school freshman football team. in his honor the entire team walked out with the kim family in a show of support before today's vigil. freshman football coach says steven may have only been 14 years old but law a natural leader on and off the field. >> no matter what, on the practice field and in games he would always have a smile on his face. some of that -- he was a real team player and i'm going to miss him so much. >> reporter: now believed that steven couldn't slow down his skateboard fast enough before entering that intersection. the driver did stop at the scene and while toxicology and autopsy results are pending investigators believe this whole thing was simply a tragic accident and no charges are expected. reporting live from doylestown, walter perez channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, walter. philadelphia police are looking for the person who barged into a home in the burholme section of the city this afternoon and shot a man in the leg. the home invasion happened at 1:52 on the 900 block of shelmire avenue. the 23-year-old victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition. police say nothing was taken from the home. in cape may county, middle township police say a body was discovered today in the 100 block of vermont avenue. that's in the rio grande section of the township. the body was found at 1:30 this afternoon. they have not yet given details about the gender or age of the person. pennsylvania appeals court upheld a sentence today for the first person sentenced under the brad fox law. last november a delaware county judge ordered stacy dawson of chester to spend six to 12 years in prison. prosecutors say she bought two guns for her boyfriend who was a convicted felon. brad fox was a plymouth township police officer shot and killed in the line of duty by a man using a gun bought by someone else. a pennsylvania lawmaker from philadelphia and montgomery county is frustrated with what he would call the inaction of his colleagues in taking action to reduce gun violence. and so today state senator art haywood discussed his own legislation. "action news" reporter john rawlins is live in center city philadelphia with that story. john. >> reporter: hey, jim. the intent of this bill is similar to laws that are already in place in about a dozen other states. haywood today focused on what he believed would be the impact on those folks who are contemplating making a straw purchase. it's been three years since the massacre at sandy hook school in connecticut. since then state incident art haywood lamented pennsylvania lawmakers have done. >> nothing to respond. >> reporter: he wants his colleagues to embrace senate bill 1029 to create a firearm eligibility license. it would require would be handgun purchases and as now written almost all handgun owners in pennsylvania to do four things. first. >> go to law enforcement agency like the police station and apply for the license. you may know a bunch of people who won want to go to a police station to apply for any kind of license. >> reporter: applicants would be fingerprinted subject to a background check and required to take a gun safety course. haywood thinks it would have a negative impact on straw purchases. >> these four factors going to the police station, getting your fingerprints, getting a background check, these all discourage individuals who would otherwise resell a gun to a criminal. >> reporter: supporters say the measure is similar to what new jersey has they point out the garden state has a per capita gun death rate half that of pennsylvania's. the mother of an 18-year-old killed in a case of mistaken identity is convinced this bill would be a good thing. >> my son was killed by two boys who could not have gotten a gun legally because of previous criminal records. two boys were having a beef over a girl. they thought my son was the boy coming back to retaliate. my son was there to pick unhis sister. he did not even know these people. and they put four bullets in my son. >> reporter: if this bill comes up for a here in harrisburg, there will be critics. the nra is already taking a dim view of it. it is urging its members to contact lawmakers and tell them that you don't want to be forced to either pay fees or ask permission to exercise your god given birth right to protect yourself. live in center city, john rawlins channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, john. new jersey congressman donald norcross said tougher gun laws are needed as a matter of national security. today in cherry hill he discussed the current practice that allows people on terrorist watch lists to buy guns in america. norcross said that is a loophole needs to close. he compared it to giving a drunk driver the keys to the car. >> philadelphia mayor elect jim kenney continued to fill out his administration today. ken flekenny introduced his nexy solicitor. he has been an assistant u.s. attorney in philadelphia since 2010. his family immigrated to the u.s. from what was then known as sigh yea zaire in 1993. he went to northeast high school harvard college and harvard law school. for a third day in a row philadelphia has broken the record fore for lives and today's mark stood since 1881. meteorologist cecily tynan is live at the "action news" big board. cecily, no real sun today but that didn't keep us from setting a new record. >> that's exactly right jim. we've had three days in a row of record warmth. it doesn't feel like the middle of december. it feels like early may. saturday's high 69 degrees. a new record. yesterday 71. a new record and today 70 degrees. that's 25 degrees above normal and records were shattered really across our viewing area. allentown the old record 60. beat it by 8 degrees. reading a record high of 67. wilmington 69. trenton 68. dover reached 72 degrees. atlantic city tying record high of 65 and mount pocono not making snow in the poconos with a record tying high of 58 degrees today. i am tracking some changes. part of the stepdown in temperatures will come with a cold front. double scan live showing it's pushing some showers into our region, some light showers generally south and east of philadelphia. heavier showers out to the west and that is all associated with a cold front that will swing through around midnight. i'll talk about the changes behind that front and actually track one shot of cold air on the way. i have the details in the accuweather forecast. jim. >> thank you cecily. the warm weather has made the ocean city boardwalk a popular place to be these days. we may not be seeing many bathing suits but we are seeing a lot of short sleeves and big smiles. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic was there, too. >> reporter:. >> last year walking on snow on the beach. so this year is a total change. >> reporter: a total change that's delightful and a little crazy. with christmas just two weeks away downtown ocean city he is decorated for the holidays and everyone would normally be focused on snow and santa but it's hard to do when people are running around in shorts and t-shirts. >> this was definitely a gift because we're out here when he has to wear a mask and i got the hoodie on. >> reporter: no hoodie needed today. the warm weather has brought bicyclists and joggers and happy pooches like this to the boardwalk. there the golden retriever was jumping for joy. >> it's unbelievable. we're on our way to florida but we came here for one last weekend at the shore because it's just unreal. >> nobody has to go to florida in this kind of weather. we're enjoying it. >> we saw the weather we said get in the car we're going and here we are on the boardwalk pedaling. >> reporter: hard to believe it's so warm in the middle of december but it won't last. we should consider this an early and very welcome christmas presenter. >> i just think it's wonderful to be out here -- actually i'm getting lot with my sweater on but i don't know what to say. it's a gift i guess. >> reporter: while the adults play be focused on the unseasonably warm weather this december the kids are thinking about something else. >> santa. >> reporter: stan is coming. do you think he's going to wear a coat or he'll be in shorts. >> he may be in shorts. >> and i would like to get this to him before christmas. >> afternoon it's crowded lines and i'm not someone that deals well with lines. figure i come in the morning before work. >> reporter: whether the parcel is heading to moorestown or montana its journey he will take it through this south jersey processing and distribution center. it's here in bellmawr where all the mail originating from or destined for the five south jersey zip codes will be processed. >> this is a big day. >> reporter: senior district plant manager david w. robinson explains on your typical monday 500,000 letters come through. today that number jumps to 1.2 million and that's not including packages. >> we go back and look at the last time it fell on a friday and we have a pretty good idea historically that this is going to be one of the heavy '87's collection days, christmas cards coming into the system. >> reporter: five to 6 million pieces of mail will be handled today through this planter alone. as for the biggest delivery days, 33 come later on this week. seasonal employees are hired to bolster the staff that already is numbered at more than 850. maintenance makes sure machine reis ready to go like this one nicknamed the app. >> it runs about 10,000 pieces an hour. >> reporter: automated package process system sorts bundles of flats and packages weighing up to 25 pounds. expect next monday to be closed on december 25th and january 1st. only priority mail express will be delivered on christmas day and new year's day. eagles players got a lesson in technology and engineering today in north philadelphia. jonathan krause and jacory shepherd met with students from there stepping stones scholars middle grades academy. the students were at temple university to show off their robotic creations. they're using science and math to help them prepare for a robotics competition next month. son, the holiday season's just like football season... you got your big games... ...cheese plates, another big win. sam bradford is getting better and better and he seems to be playing with more confidence. nelson aguilar with this 53-yard touchdown in the second quarter. how about the defense. came up with a huge stop late in the fourth. ed reynolds interception helped preserve the 23-20 victory. as to be expected chip kelly is not harping on this win. >> you better come to play every single weekend. it's the same thing this week. we've had two big wins, great. better train really hard to play an outstanding arizona team coming in here or it's all for naught and every week is its own individual set of circumstances, its own individual challenges that you got to be prepared for and that's always been the mantra. >> leshawn mccoy made his long awaited return to philadelphia yesterday. no love for chip kelly but plenty for jeffrey lurie. he started off well but the birds slut him down in the second half. he finished with 74 yards rushing with only 11 yards coming in the third and fourth quarters. shady did not shake his ex teammates hands after the game em he did shake the walls when he flung his helmet into the bill's locker room. when the cameras were allowed in redskins are tied atop the nfc east at six and seven. the new york giants visit the miami dolphins tonight. if the giants win we go back to a three-way tie and the cardinals at 11 and two will visit the birds at the linc sunday night. to baseball. the hit king strikes out again. pete rose will not be reinstated to major league baseball. rose hoped new commissioner rob manfred would lift his lifetime ban. in making his decision the commissioner side his continued gambling. manfred also questioned rose's understanding of his "wrongful conduct." temple is getting to work for next week's bowl game a week from thursday the owls will face to lead today in the boca raton bowl. it will be the final game of the season and the final game ever for some players. >> it will be an emotional moment for me. i haven't gotten emotional -- it is will probably be emotional for me because i love the group of seniors that's leaving. that part had been emotional for me. i just hope we go out with a win. i hope we go out with a bowl win and to be able to call yourself a champion is also special. >> sixers in chicago to face the bulls. nerlens noel is still dealing with that shot to the face. sixers big man was on the wrong side of a kyle lowry elbow last night. oh. noel saw an eye specialist in chicago today for what's being called a corneal abrasion. he's not in the lineup tonight. looks like jeremy grant will replace him in the lineup. looks like that hurt. won't know how long he'll be out but we'll keep an eye on it. >> thank you ducis. philadelphia flyers using hockey to get kids excited about science. 200 students from cinnaminson middle school had an interactive lesson at the team's training facility voorhees. the students took part in experiments on and off the ice. they also learned about the equipment that players wear and they even got take a few shots. >> ♪ >> we've got some strange weather going on. >> some people love it, wearing shorts in the middle of winter. ahead of a cold front that will move through later on tonight and a pretty good band of some heavier showers stretching from quakertown across the northeast extension of the blue route through pottstown malvern, just east of oxford. could even have a rumble of thunder with there line and then south jersey not quite as heavy but a pretty good steady light rain moving across south jersey hammonton, atlantic city and millville, glassboro, so if you're heading out tonight you do want to take an umbrella and things will be changing. we're heading from record warmth to wind whipped tomorrow behind that front but today's high 70 degrees. 25 degrees above average. breaking a record that was set back in 1881 and 70 is typical for early may. not the middle of december. tomorrow, though, temperatures will stepdown. still in the 60's. still pretty warm for december. future tracker showing the big story, though will be the wind gusts. wind gusts in the afternoon up to about 30 miles per hour. so, if you have the holiday decorations outside, make sure they're well attached so they don't get ripped off with the winds. right now still very warm. 64 degrees in philadelphia. normal high for this time of the year is 45. trenton 66. allentown 64. millville 61. even in the poconos 58 degrees and wilmington also 58. satellite6 along with action radar showing we had a lot of cloud cover today. thanks to these winds out of the south picking up that moisture ahead of that cold front we got one band of showers that is pushing in right now. the actual cold front is across central pennsylvania. that will move through shortly after midnight. a wider picture shows the center of this low, though, the storm system once again will be heading up into canada so what that does, it keeps all of the really cold air blocked up there for the next several days. so, future tracker showing tonight around 9 o'clock still a few showers around. temperatures still in the 60's and look at what happens right before midnight. we he spike, 68 degrees. if we're 68 after midnight, that will break tomorrow's record high of 66 early in the morning and then by 6 o'clock, the sunshine is back, 56 degrees so the day planner will show you we're getting rid of the clouds tomorrow, bright sunshine all day long. temperatures not as warm as today but still mild for december. 57 degrees at 7 o'clock. by 10 o'clock 59. 1 o'clock 62. and by 4 o'clock, 61 degrees with those gusty winds. if you like the cold air, some people do, we are back to reality on saturday. a big dip in the jet stream will bring down some cool air with wind chills in the 30's but it only really sticks around for one day before temperatures rebound. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, sunny, windy and mild tomorrow, 63 degrees. we drop it to 57 degrees on wednesday. thursday another cold front will bring us periods of rain with a high of 60. friday we drop to 51 degrees. then here is that winter chill on saturday, 42 degrees, wind chill in the 30's but on sunday for the eagles game we're back up to 48 degrees, slightly above normal. monday 11 degrees above normal and there are some signs that around christmas eve we could have record warmth yet again. feels like florida. >> santa is going have to take off his coat, maybe shave, too. >> no, no. >> those beards -- >> not that far. >> finally
