as she was going back inside. the woman was visiting two friends inside an art institute of philadelphia dorm room when she fell just before 6:00 thursday night. both of those male students are being questioned by police. james porter was working nearby when he saw ambulances and police arrive. >> it's a tragedy. my heart goes out to her family. >> reporter: the 18-year-old hit a 44-year-old woman who was walking on the 16th street sidewalk. she was rushed to hahnemann university hospital. she suffered fractured vertebrae in her neck and had some of her teeth knocked out. >> the 44-year-old female she was conscious. she was talking. she was very upset and she was complaining of pain. >> reporter: at the time of the accident the streets were crowded with pedestrians. >> you would never think that someone would like fall on you while you're trying to walk down the street. very unfortunate accident. >> reporter: and police right now are in the process of obtaining a search warrant to look through that dorm room here to determine among other things if drugs or alcohol might have played a role here but as of right now there is no evidence of foul play or that this may have been suicide. at this point this appears to have been just an accident but this investigation is still very much ongoing. as for the 44-year-old woman who is at hahnemann right now she is listed in stable condition and she is expected to be okay. reporting live tonight in center city, todd quinones for "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the cw philly all right todd, thank you very much. we go now to wilmington, delaware where there was gunfire on the streets tonight. it was a traffic stop gone bad. police returned fire shooting a suspect. it all happened just a few blocks away from a pro-police rally. "eyewitness news" reporter natasha brown is live for us at wilmington police headquarters tonight with how all of this unfolded. natasha. >> reporter: chris, we can tell you that this happened shortly after 5:00 p.m. these were patrol officers who were conducting a routine traffic stop at the time. police say there were passengers inside this car when one of those passengers began firing at police. swarms of officers respond to a police-involved shooting at 99 vander vera avenue. >> as the officers approached the vehicle a struggle ensued with one of the passengers at which point in time the officers were fired upon. at least one officer returned fire. >> reporter: one of the officers shot the suspect who was air lifted to christiana hospital. his condition is unknown but both officers were not injured. this violence taking place across town on the heels of a pro-police rally in rodney square. dozens showing their support for local law enforcement officers. this rally following marches around the can and tree spawned by protesters upset about grand jury decisions involving cases with police in ferguson missouri and new york. pastor derek johnson led one near wilmington. >> there's an antagonistic kind of atmosphere right now and it needs to be diffused. >> reporter: while the investigation into this this police-involved shooting continues, residents like arnold floyd want to get beyond the crime scene tape. >> maybe they need to go back to the old way and start patrolling and foot patrolling these here neighborhoods. i don't know. i mean, but it's -- you taking a big risk. >> reporter: well, neighbors do tell us that crime has been escalating in that particular community over the past few months or so. meantime the suspect involved in this police-involved shooting was taken to christiana hospital. his condition is still not known at this point and as is standard procedure, the two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on desk duty pending the outcome of this investigation. we're live here at the wilmington police department, natasha brown, "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the cw philly. >> natasha, thank you very much. the u.s. attorney general eric holder in philadelphia today for a candid discussion on justice race and building trust in a community. holder met with local leaders at the u.s. attorney's office today. the fifth stop in a naturalist anyone -- national listening tour. holder calls relationships a legacy item for the obama administration. >> the trust that exists in certain communities is weak and you have to concede that. this is not something that is made up. it is not something that is a media invention. these are feelings that are real. >> around two dozen people protested police brutality during holder's appearance. >> a portion of i-95 north remains closed tonight following a deadly multi-vehicle accident this afternoon. and we now know the identity of the man killed in this wreck. it's 58-year-old paul ramirez. police say he was driving a tractor-trailer that hit another truck. that led to a chain reaction crash. one truck lost its load of scrap metal. now, all of this happened on 95 north just south of street road and it create add big rush hour delay. a section of 95 north between woodhaven and street road is still closed tonight and the southbound side is down to one lane in that area. we are hearing exclusively tonight from the ex-boyfriend of erica crippen. her husband kyle crosby is charged with her murder. hamin baker met crosby in high school. they had a seven-year-old daughter together named amirra. news that crippen may be dead understandably hit hard and he says he's now focused on their daughter. >> she's not stupid. she has an idea what's going on but we didn't give her like the overall view of things 'cause i don't know how she's going to take it. >> baker now says the couple's daughter will live with him full time. >> well, authorities in belgium say that they have preempted what they called a major terror attack. police killed two suspects during the anti-terror operation today. officials say that members of that group targeted may have links with isis and planned to carry out major terror attacks against police stations. one suspect was arrested during the shootout and belgium has raised its national security level. well, authorities now say there is no link at this point between the paris attacks and the belgian operation. today in france hundreds gathered for four separate funerals of victims of last week's terror. there was also a public ceremony to honor the slain cartoonist who drew under the name tignos. he was one of the 12 people killed at the satirical newspaper charlie hebdo. more information about 20-year-old christopher lee cornell. he's scheduled to appear in federal court in cincinnati tomorrow. the fbi alleges that he plotted to attack the capital building and kill as many people as possible in the name of the islamic terror group isis. the house speaker john boehner said a controversial government surveillance program is responsible for alerting authorities to that plot. it gives feds the authority to eavesdrop under certain circumstances. >> the number of flu deaths in delaware this season has now climbed to 13. there were two deaths this week all but one of the deceased is over 70 years old and all 13 had underlying conditions. today there have been over 1500 lab confirmed cases in delaware. according to a pseudo this year's flu vaccine is only 23 percent effective. >> starting in just a few hours it will be easier for americans to travel and send money to cuba. as promised the obama administration is easing decades old restrictions on the communist nation. among the changes that travelers will be able to take advantage of, the use of credit cards and unlimited amounts of money that can be spent while in cuba. visitors can also bring home about $100 worth of alcohol or tobacco including those cuban cigars. well, new tonight we are hearing from an undocumented immigrant in north philadelphia who won her fight against deportation today. angela navarro was grant add stay of removal by the u.s. immigration and customs enforcement office. this honduran national has spent nearly two months at west kensington's church. her husband and children are u.s. citizens. speaking through an interpreter today navarro said she was thrilled. do you consider philly the second best shopping city in the world? let us know on facebook and twitter. you can hear your comment right here on "eyewitness news." >> sounds about right. >> yeah. >> the nominees are. the this morning the academy award nominations were revealed. we know which films actors and actresses are up for this year's oscar. >> bradley cooper getting a nod for his role in american sniper. that marks his third nomination. american sniper is also nominated for best picture. but as cbs news correspondent teri okita shows us it was two other films that have the chance to steal the show come oscar night. >> you're bird man. >> reporter: bird man scored nine nominations including best picture and director as well as acting nods for stars michael keaton edward norton and emma stone. >> pleasure is mine. >> reporter: it tied with the grand budapest hotel although the quirky comedy failed to garner any acting nominations. rounding out best picture american sniper boyhood which insiders consider the front runner the imitation game selma the theory of anything and whiplash. bradley scored a best acting nod. he goes up against steve carell benedict cumberbatch michael keaton and eddie redmayne in the theory of everything. left out was david. >> it's too quite of a category. >> reporter: rounding out the category felicity jones julianne moore rosamund pike and reese witherspoon. jk simmons is considered the front runner in the supporting actor category. he faces off against robert duval ethan hawk edward norton and mark ruffalo. patricia arquette earned her first oscar nod. she goes up against nora dern and meryl streep in the supporting actress category. this streep's 19th academy award nomination. teri okita for "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> skies are clear and it is a cold night across the delaware valley but the clear skies mean that we will wake up to sunshine but the big question is will it stay that way? take a look outside. we like the clear skies and the cold conditions to make snow in the poconos and they're depending on that at jack frost/big boulder. it definitely will be cold enough to make snow tonight and during the day tomorrow, little iffy as temperatures will warm to more seasonable levels across the entire region but probably not stay that way for the whole weekend. take a look now on the our eyewitness weather watchers. a variety of temperatures but mainly in the 20's across-the-board. ron is reporting in a temperature of 23 degrees with light winds or calm right now. our northernmost point on our board tonight comes from chuck in perkasie. he's saying 21 degrees, so going down into the teens there. and let's check out what's going on in the delaware area. tyler is reporting in only 24 with calm winds in bear, delaware. we are looking at clear skies for now but let's take a look at how long they will last. on storm scan3 you can see it's clear but see those snow showers to the north and west. well a few of those clouds will roll in. that's a fast moving clipper. we will not see the snow. that will be reserved for new york and new england but we will see a few of these clouds rolling through overnight tonight. and then we have to talk about a weekend storm. but first, let's talk temperatures. 30 in philadelphia and wilmington, 22 in the poconos. really cold everywhere. to the west and to the south. and richmond is only 35 degrees. so we'll watch this area of low pressure and front skirt through and it will be kicking up the wind friday so yes it's sunny yes it will be seasonable. temperatures around 40 finally but the wind will be gusting to about 30 miles an hour and that still will make it feel like it's in the 20's and 30's during the course of the day. still have to wear that winter coat. then saturday behind that front it's a reinforcing shot of cold air highs only in the low 30's. so cold again. wind chills in the teens for good part of the day and then we see our next storm coming. the good news is it brings warmer air. the bad news is clouds roll in sunday afternoon and depending on the exact track of this area of low pressure it means rain and it means wind and it could be heavy rain. how much?
