together around them. today marks one week since hurricane matthew had devastating flooding throughout north carolina. there have been 26 storm related deaths linked to driving in floodwaters. across the nation matthew has got 43 people before hitting the us, matthew killed more the 500 people in haiti. wayne county is in recovery mode one week after hurricane matthew hit north carolina. today, thousands of water -- bottles of water were handed out . the news riverhead record levels of nearly 30 feet. it has since dropped to 4 feet and continues to receive. given the people an opportunity to getting back to normal. >> it is really rough. it is going to be months involved, and people getting their lives back together. it is going to be very difficult for them. >> wayne county is one of 17 counties were home and business owners and renters can apply for individual aid. cumberland county also continues to recover from hurricane matthew. disaster relief team were on hand today at the cedar falls baptist church in fayetteville. a team of 75 workers handed out meats, vegetables, snacks, water and hot meals to those affected by hurricane matthew. since last weekend the cedars falls baptist church shelter has given out to 36,000 meals, and a small recovery team is helping out this women's home by removing mud and interior walls. 5feet of water flooded the home last saturday. >> the house isn't really all that important, but people are important. we need to help each other i am going to my neighbors house and help them. because i know all along the streets, at the end of each one of these roads, my neighbor is hurting like i was. >> the north carolina baptist men disaster relief teams have been at the home since 9 o'clock this morning. they will return to the home tomorrow morning to make sure that no mold forms inside. meanwhile, and carry, people are doing their part to help out the rest of the state. 2 women organized a supply photojournalist, tommy harris was there for the site and the sounds. >> when the levees broke on monday morning, people do not know what to do. everything that we had received has gone directly to buy supplies. we made an effort to get together and get supplies down to lumberton. be cautious of where you are giving this thing at least half full. i think we will fill it up and overload. twenty dollars can provide 4-5 cases of water. >> i would try to mentally put myself in their shoes. i would want so many to come out and help me if i was in that situation. these people need a lot of help. they have lost pretty much everything. repairing roads across the state after hurricane matthew including parts of i-95 in johnston county. even though some parts have reopened, sentience -- sections from benson to fayetteville continue to be impactero crews are building a crossover that will allow traffic to shifter the northbound side so engineering crews can impact -- repair the southbound side for the crossover will be in place for moments by reminding her, it'll wedding details do not matter. >> everything that happened put things into perspective and reprioritize why we are doing all of this. we are in love and we just want to today as i gathered today for the third annual triangle veg fast. it is a festival for people celebrating what organizers call healthy, sustainable and compassionate lifestyle choices. the gathering today was a chance to learn more about vegan lifestyles. >> i am a vegan, and i am always looking for new foods to try. this gives me an opportunity to taste and sample new things. >> the festival continues center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in february the veg fast began organizing a vegan market which has raised more than $2000 for local charities. there is a lot happening this weekend, if you
