jersey. reports of a police-involved shooting in jersey city. they've just cleared the intersection he have martin luther king drive and -- tracie strahan is there working to get information from police. >> reporter: darlene, we've reached out to the hudson county prosecutor's office. they're in charge of whatever happened here. we've actually moved to ocean avenue and forest street because that's where there was a large police presence just a short time ago. we want to show you video of what it looked like when we this area. we saw a crime scene unit hauling away a car on a flatbed. we believe that's what was involved in the shooting. this happened hours ago. information is still come sbog our newsroom. it's unclear if it was a fatal shooting or if a police officer was involved or a possible double shooting in north amityville. suffolk county police say the shooting happened around 2:00 this morning on glenn velour street. the person has serious injuries and there may be a second victim. helicopters and dogs were called in to search for a suspect. we'll have more on this story as it unfolds. also breaking news in east harlem. suspect who killed a man inside a homeless shelter. kat, what are police saying at this point? >> reporter: crime scene investigators and detectives have been in and out of this building here inside there. there is a men's homeless shelter. just eavesdropping on some of the conversations of the detectives, they tell us it is a gruesome scene in there. police tell us an argument turned into a violent confrontation with two men. it ended up with a 62-year-old man stabbed in the neck. he died. the person who stabbed him, according to police, took off. it happened minutes before midnight here on lexington avenue near 124th street. this is called the boulevard homeless shelter. it is for men. can occupy only about 100 people. the problem with homelessness has been in the news of late. the comptroller's office says there's been 18,000 health or safety violations at the shelters and reports of violent that's increased by 55% from 2012 compared to 2015. michael, at this point the investigation is goes on the victim. a 26-year-old man. workers are here and they will transport him to the medical examiner's office. he was stabbed in the neck. the criminal, according to police, still out there somewhere. back to you, michael. >> this was the concern and the effort by the city to make the shelters safe enough so people would go to them. >> reporter: right. because you hear from homeless people that they're dirty, they're violent. they don't feel safe there. they'd rather be out on the street. that's what the city is trying to change. >> absolutely. kat, thank you so much. happening today, the sanitation department through eighth grate students. they want to see what they can do by allowing them to work at their own pace. new york city issuing a warning about baby monitors. they are vulnerable to haerks. that
