The white house hasnt confirmed the test, and theres a bit of contradicting information. Theres a south korean spy that says the bomb that was tested by the north was an atomic bomb, not a nuclear bomb. Thats according to the south korean spy. If it was an hbomb, it would certainly put pyongyang one big step closer to ramping up its nuclear arsenal. Youre looking now at north korean state tv. This is their announcement. Very typical, propagandaheavy state. It says the north tested a miniaturized Hydrogen Bomb, that it went off without a hitch, and it provides the north a weapon to defend against the u. S. And other enemies. Theres an organization, a u. N. Organization that monitors the world for signs of nuclear te csting. This Organization Says that it did detect an event in the north Korean Peninsula, describing this event as some sort of that registered about a 4. 8 in magnitude. Whether it was this bomb, though, this alleged hbomb, is not clear. China, australia, and france have strongly condemned the north announcement. Also, britains foreign secretary just releasing the following statement, saying in part, if a nuclear bomb has been detonated by north korea, it would be a grave breach of u. N. Security council resolutions. Also, japanese officials Just Announced that theyre convening a Security Council meeting. The Japanese Meteorological Agency says thatimt is analyzing this data, comparing kind of wave patterns from this tremor with other tremors that have been recorded after north koreas past nuclear tests. They say theyll release these findings shortly. Whether or not this will be confirmed within the day is unclear. A lot still developing. Well be back with you in about 30 minutes. A pregnant woman that has been Tracie Strahan is at the scene right now, where there have been some developments. Tracie . Reporter darlene, possibly very somber developments. We watched as a body was wheeled into a medical examiners van here on corsa avenue in the bay chester section of the bronx. This comes as authorities continue their search for Andrea Caruth. Right now, as you look at the scene, you can see a crime scene unit van is now leaving the scene. This 39yearold pregnant mother has been missing since sunday. Again, we just saw a body taken into the medical examiners van that then left the scene. Youre looking at Andrea Caruths photo. She was supposed to meet a friend for brunch on sunday but never showed up. Her personal effects, like her credit cards, phone, wallet, were still inside of her home. Her car is here as well. Her family said they were holding out hope. Were just praying that wherever she is, we need closure, that god brings her back. Shes very successful at what she does. She wouldnt ju up and leave and disappear. Reporter Andrea Caruth is a day care worker. Her friends said she would never leave her students behind. As we bring you back live, again, we just saw a body taken out of Andrea Caruths home, taken into a medical examiners van, and taken away from the scene. A very somber development here, darlene. Police say it started after the victim bumped into the man inside the east tremont deli on Christmas Eve. The man punching the 61yearold victim, throwing him to the ground, hitting him with a shopping cart. Police say that man then took off after the attack. The victim was not seriously injured. Kevin canty faces up to 25 years in prison. He confessed to shooting his wife multiple times in their home in april of 2014. He pleaded guilty to firstde firstdegree manslaughter. And another former officer in trouble. Today the former mt. Pleasant police chief will be sentenced on a child pornography charge. In july, Brian Finelli pled guilty to possession of child pornography. According to his plea deal, prosecutors could seek up to fo gur years, three months in prison. Today in new yorks Tracie Strahan is live with these late breaking developments. Reporter after i checked in with police over the phone, they formalized details in the form of a release about what happened here. They do confirm that a female was found unconscious and unresponsive in the home where Andrea Caruth was last seen. They have not identified the but again, all of her family members and friends around here see this as a very bad development. We want to show you some video of Andrea Caruth, the 39yearold five months pregnant with her first child. Shes a day care worker. Her livein boyfriend called a friend to say she never returned home on sunday, even though her car was still here and all of her personal effects. Police are now confirming that a body that was taken out of here at 3 00 this morning was a female found unconscious and unresponsive, pronounced dead at the scene. We spoke to her cousin, who was in this area along with many family members about her. Take a listen. She was a nice girl. Sweet. The family wants to know who do it. Reporter the medical examiner has now left the scene along with crime scene investigators, but you can see the crime scene tape still up Andrea Caruths relatives are still trying to get answers and see if that body will be positively identified as her. Theyve been waiting since sunday for any type of answers. Michael, they also tell me that many people have been questioned in connection to this. Thats Something Police do confirm to me as well. Calling for an emergency session. Were still waiting on a reaction from the United States. South korea has come out strongly against the announcement. Youre looking at north korean state tv. This is very typical, very propaganda heavy. It says this test provides a weapon to defend against the United States and other enemies. Britain all of them releasing statements very strongly condemning this alleged test. I say alleged because there is a south korean spy that says this was not an hbomb that was tested but rather an abomb. Both nuclear bombs, but an hbomb is many, many thousand times more destructive. Theres a u. N. Agency that monitors seismic activity looking for unusual events that would indicate nuclear testing. It says there was something that registered on the Korean Peninsula, something about a 4. 8 in magnitude. They say it was not a natural earthquake. However, you would expect an hbomb to register much higher on that scale, even a miniaturized version. They say this test went off without a hitch, and in south korea, people are very worried. The president ordering her military to bolster its defense, calling this test an act that threatens our lives and our future. Again, still waiting on that u. N. Emergency meeting to take place. You can catch a train here, but certainly it could be better. Thats something Governor Cuomo just might talk about later today. The wall street journal is reporting this morning that Governor Cuomo will announce a Major Overhaul of penn station at some point this week. It would include a modern and grand waiting area for amtrak customers. Governor cuomo on long island yesterday happened to be talking about resurrecting a billiondollar plan to build a third lirr track that would stretch for ten miles. Hes talked about revitalizing laguardia airport. He talked about the Tappan Zee Bridge as well. He has an event today here in the area of penn station. Wraps. Little while ago who uses penn station daily. Theres so much nice space down there. They have such a great location. I dont see why they couldnt make it more of a restaurant hub and somewhere that people actually want to come, even if youre not traveling. The governor also eyeing a new tunnel for long island drivers. The governor says he wants o spend 5 million for a study to see if a tunnel is financially and practically feasible. The study would examine a tunnel directly to the bronx. Meantime, Governor Cuomo also wants to make long islands Macarthur Airport an international hub. The governor says he wants to provide 6 million for a federal customs inspection facility at the airport in ronkonkoma. That would allow International Flights to use that terminal. 5 38 right now. Donald trump once questioned whether president obama was born in the United States. Now hes turning that argument on a republican opponent. Trump is pointing out to interviewers that ted cruz was born in canada, and that could raise questions as to whether cruz could legally serve as president. Cruz answered by tweeting this out. We have some new Surveillance Video that shows the robbers who stormed a bronx home last month. Police say they invaded a fordham heights apartment with guns and a machete. Police say those robbers stole cash, jewelry, a lab top, and cell phone. Two nypd officers are recovering after crashing their patrol car in queens. You see the damage here at 82nd street and 32nd avenue in jackson heights. Were told the Police Cruiser hit a civilian, seriously injuring the driver. The officers were treated for minor injuries. Police say Kelvin Dennison entered a td bank in sunnyside on monday, handed the teller a note demanding 20,000. They say he was also arrested back in july after robbing another bank. An alleged con man who posed as a Wounded Warrior is now behind bars. Soldier to prey on the kindness of others. The scam allowed him to rent a luxury downtown apartment and lease a new bmw. Today in new yorks Tracie Strahan is outside womans home in the baychester section of the bronx. Tracie . Reporter michael, its become a very somber morning out here on corsa avenue. Police confirmed to us that a body was taken out of this home a short time ago, and we did see examiners van. Was found unconscious and unresponsive unresponsive. So far, police have not released the identity of the person pulled out. They havent said that its Andrea Caruth, but that body was discovered inside of her home around 3 00 this morning. Caruth is a day care worker and five months pregnant. Her livein boyfriend called her friend to say she never returned home sunday night. Then another friend said she never showed up for brunch on that same day. Her loved ones have been here at the scene for hours now, just waiting for word. Its just devastating. We grew up together, so its like her memory is always going to be there. Reporter Andrea Caruth was pregnant with her first child. What made everything so confusing here is that her personal effects were still inside of this home. Things like her wallet and her cell phone were still inside along with her car that was still in the lot. Michael, the medical examiner, of course, will determine the female pulled from this home. The announcement also drawing strong condemnation from china, which is north koreas really only major ally. Australia, britain, and jae pan. North korea announcing that they successfully tested a miniaturized hbomb and that the test went off without a hitch. There was an unnatch ural earthquake on the Korean Peninsula that could account for the test. Meanwhile, the announcement from applause from North Koreans watching. A very typical propagandaheavy announcement, saying the weapon will provide defense against north america and other enemies. The test deeply troubling for south korea. Official there is calling for an emergency meeting. The president there asking for the military to bolster its defense. However, a south korean spy says it was not an hbomb but rather an abomb that was tested. Whats the difference . So theyre both nuclear, but an hbomb is potentially many thousands of times more destructive. And an hbomb would have likely registered much higher in magnitude than what was detected. Police say it started after the victim bumped into the man inside the east tremont bo day ga on Christmas Eve. The man punched the 61yearold victim, threw him to the ground, and hit him with a shopping cart. Police say that man took off after the attack. Fortunately, the victim was not seriously injured. In new jersey, high levels of Carbon Monoxide sent six people, including two Police Officers, to the hospital. A resident returned to a home on palisade avenue to find two people unconscious. Two other people were sickened by the fumes. They were treated at Hoboken University medical center. Two responding Police Officers were taken to the hospital as well for observation. President obama likely facing a challenge in the courts emotional appeal to toughen gun laws. Yesterday the president was teary as he recalled the young victims of connecticuts Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. The president was announced his expected move to expand back ground checks on gun buyers. Some republicans quick to criticize this executive order. Because gun violence is committed by criminals. Theyve put together a timeline of everything that syed farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik did that day. However, theres a gap about two hours after the shootings. Officials say they want to know if they contacted anyone during that time. Meanwhile, enrique march r quez, a friend of syed farook, is set to be arraigned in court today. The charges against marquez include providing Material Support to terrorists and making false statements. If convicted, he could face up to 50 years in prison. Well show you video of the 39yearold day care worker, five months pregnant, awaiting the birth of her first child. Shes been missing since sunday. Thats when she was supposed to meet a friend for brunch. Her livein boyfriend said she never returned home that day. Her personal effects, like credit cards and wallet, were still inside of the home. They were told by military sources the explosion was not big enough to be an hbomb. It was more likely a less powerful nuclear explosion. Today, thousands of new york city workers will get a big raise. Mayor de blasio planning to announce everybody who works for the city will earn no less than 15 an hour within three years. In fact, the wall street journal saying Governor Cuomo at some point this week might talk about a Major Overhaul, an expansion of penn station. It would include a modern and large waiting area for amtrak customers located in the Big Post Office across the street. Yesterday happened to be talking about resurrecting a billiondollar plan to build a third lirr track that would stretch for ten miles. He has an event today in the area by penn station. The details of it still unclear. We talked with commuters who tell us penn station could certainly use a new look. Theres so much nice space down there. They have such a great location. I dont see why they couldnt make it more of a restaurant hub, somewhere that people actually want to come, even if youre not traveling. They could have better restaurants, better restrooms. Police say Jeremy Wilson pretended to be a former soldier to prey on the kindness of others. They say the scam allowed him to rent a luxury downtown apartment and lease a new bmw. Police managed to dupe him by towing his car and telling him it was evidence for a bogus shooting case. When wilson retrieved his car, they arrested him. A san diego man says tsa agents went too far when they search his 10yearold daughter. This patdown took place last week at raleighdurham International Airport in north carolina. Agents say the girl was flagged for extra screening after a juice box in her carryon set off an alarm. Police were called to a High School Basketball game in pennsylvania after a coach is caught on video allegedly headbutting a referee. Nights game. The coach apparently angry over a call. Watch there. Reporter were standing by for the medical Examiners Office to positively identify the female body that was discovered unconscious and unresponsive inside of Andrea Caruths home. That body was found by police around 3 00 this morning. It comes days after Andrea Caruth was last seen. The 39yearold day care operator was five months pregnant, waiting on the birth of her first child. She was supposed to meet a friend for brunch on sunday but never showed up.
