announcer: no one covers new hampshire like we do. now, wmur news 9 tonight. shelley: we begin with a developing story. police in colorado say three people are dead after a shooting at a planned parenthood clinic. two of the victims are civilians. the third is a police officer from the university of colorado, colorado springs. nine other people are hospitalized. good evening. i' m shelley walcott. officers say the gunman engaged them in a shootout for hours before they could take him into custody. abc' >> we are taking fire, two hits. lana: this was the scene, lines of swat teams, tactical unit and -- tactical units, as they tried the alleged suspect firing at officers outside while others were caught inside, like this woman' s sister -- this man' s sister. >> there were guys shooting -- she was hiding. lana: nearby, businesses and shoppers were told to shelter in place. caren was working at the supercuts. >> i heard gunshots and everything. and then i saw an officer go down. lana: after nearly five hours, police convinced the suspect to surrender. their bravery saved untold lives, according to the mayor. >> this was a terrible, terrible tragedy. it could have been much works -- worse. shelley: according to law enforcement, there are nine people, five members of law enforcement, who had been transported to area hospitals. all are listed in good condition. shelley: people in france paid tribute to those killed two weeks ago in the terror attacks in paris. [french national anthem plays] shelley: the national anthem played as president francois site of napoleon' s tomb. each of the 130 people who was killed was recognized by name. president hollande pledged to fanatics responsible for the attacks." in chicago, protesters blocked stores and shut down traffic in the city during black friday shopping. the demonstrators gathered on michigan avenue' s magnificent mile, a popular shopping destination. the group wants to draw attention to the death of a black teenager who was shot 16 times by a white police officer. the officer was charged with murder earlier this week. reverend jesse jackson led a peaceful protest. he says an investigation is needed into why dash cam video of the shooting was just released. tape -- the mayor, the police chief, the state' s attorney. if they saw it, that' s why we need a full, impartial, federal investigation, so we know who saw what when and why was the tape suppressed for 13 months. shelley: the officer' s attorney says he feared for his life when he fired the shots. turning our attention to whether -- weather the unseasonably mild , temperatures we all enjoyed today can' t stay around forever. a live look now at manchester, now. meteorologist aj burnett is here with more on the showers some will see overnight. aj: i know lots of us would wish that we could hang onto the 57' s. others are saying bring on the snow. no snow in the forecast tomorrow. record high temperatures today. hartford, connecticut, but give see, new york, new york city, glenns fall, new york, portland, thank you. the city of nashua is preparing for tomorrow' s annual holiday stroll. it is the city' s largest event and this year because of the nice weather, they are expecting a big turnout. to make sure everyone is safe, presence than in previous years. our kristen carosa tells us what to expect. kristen: city officials are adding 20 officers to patrol this year' s event. more than 30,000 people are expected and organizers aren' t taking any chances. final preparations are underway in nashua as the city gets ready to host its annual holiday stroll. >> we get about 30,000 people each year. the folks that come out won' t be disappointed. kristen: organizer paul shea says the event will feature more than 75 demonstrations, performances, shopping, and attractions in the downtown area. >> this year for the first time we are incorporating diwali to celebrate our growing indian population. we wanted to make sure they feel welcome. kristen: and also for the first time this year, people will notice an increased police presence. >> we have put some extra police officers into the mix, because with so many folks, there is a big reason to have extra eyes out there. kristen: emergency management director justin kates says need to enhance safety. 20 extra officers will be out on the streets. >> having those extra police officers out there just reassures everybody that it is a safe event and if something does happen that' s not good, they will be able to go out and respond real quick. kristen: kates says emergency staff are ready to respond to whatever may happen. >> special events like the holiday stroll offer our public safety officials an opportunity to practice their procedures and really make sure that all of our public safety staff are aware of the protocols that we would handle during some sort of emergency. kristen: the annual event has been held for 20 years. kates says there have only been a few minor incidents during that time and safety officials intend to keep it that way. >> nashua is one of those communities that really takes special events seriously and you can see that through the number of planning meetings that we events. kristen: the event starts at 5:00 p.m. right here at city hall and it runs until 10:00. reporting in nashua, kristen carosa, wmur news 9. shelley: a bus driver in portsmouth had to call police tonight because a rider was exposing himself. police say another rider complained to the driver, who pulled over, called police, and waited for officers to arrive. officers say robert morrill was exposing himself on the bus. because he has been convicted of the same offense before, he faces a felony charge of indecent exposure and lewdness. a man was killed in a farm accident in tamworth today. new hampshire state police tell news 9 the man was operating a tractor when it rolled over and pinned him underneath. police are not releasing the victim' s dinner five -- victim' s identity until the family is notified. an investigation into the cause of this deadly incident is underway. watch this. a scary crash caught on an officer' s dash cam. police in connecticut were pulled over on i-95 after a crash. officers say another car came speeding down the highway just pulled over onto the shoulder and hitting one of the cars involved in the original crash. the driver faces charges including reckless endangerment. amazingly, no one was seriously hurt. police in massachusetts say a man has turned himself in for stealing a donation jar. this is surveillance video from yesterday. to police. reporter: no comment from a man who admits to stealing a jimmy fund jar on thanksgiving morning. the posted fail after his -- he posted bail after his arraignment. he stole the jar after buying a story that -- s a soda and scratch >> he put it back and asked me a question about this. he figured out he could get a scratch ticket. i turned my back, and that' s when he stole it. reporter: the 10 -- can he stole contained $84, intended to help children with cancer. >> he said he turned himself in because his mother had in his shirt on the news -- his picture on the news and it was the right thing to do. another man were on the tracks in west hartford, on a bridge that crosses the white river. the second victim is now hospitalized in critical condition. the amtrak train was stopped for nearly three approve this message. shelley: avian flu has led to an egg shortage nationwide. that' s affecting a classic holiday treat, eggnog. katelyn smith explains how a pennsylvania company is keeping up with demand. katelyn: in addition to its regular flavors of coffees and teas, around this time every year, turkey hill makes egg nog. but this year it was scrambling. >> that supplier said, we are affected by the avian flu, the egg shortage, overall, the national egg shortage, we won' t be able to supply the regular mixture. katelyn: so the company decided to come up with its own recipe and tested it over and over again, until the taste was just right. >> finally we came up with what we know is the best quality eggnog that compares to our 2014 and past years' recipe. katelyn: it got millions of eggs from its parent company kroger, mixed them with nutmeg and other flavors. >> we' ve got it prepared, batched up, and ready to run. katelyn: and is making 600,000 gallons. each batch is still the portsmouth international airport at pease as a flight from texas went on its way to germany and then kuwait. more than 200 servicemen and women, plus department of defense employees, were on board. the greeters were joined by some boy scouts, as well as medal of honor recipient ryan pitts. strawbery banke in portsmouth is asking skaters to help them fight hunger by bringing food donations with them. helen: what we' ll be doing is partnering with seacoast family food pantry and all the food that' s donated here to strawbery banke will be distributed to agencies here on the seacoast. shelley: anyone who donates a bag of non-perishable food at the rink will get a free pass to visit strawbery banke during the spring or summer. they' ll also be entered in a weekly drawing to win 10
