Adam today marks 30 years since challenger. Among the astronauts on board was Christa Mcauliffe, a 37yearold New Hampshire social studies teacher who was selected to be the First Teacher in space. Good afternoon. I m adam sexton. Wmur s ray brewer is live at Concord High School where they are remembering and honoring the life of Christa Mcauliffe. Ray in the first few years after the disaster, the high school always held a moment of silence at the time of the explosion. That stopped after five years, but today, they brought it back to mark the anniversary. A flag that has flown all over the country, including the capitol, in christa s honor flew at concord high before making its way to its permanent home at the Christa Mcauliffe library in framingham. Inside the school in a class founded by Christa Mcauliffe, entitled american women, students gathered to hear about or were at Concord High School that fateful day. Ray colleagues and former students also recalled how what had been a Party Atmosphere quickly changed once the but today was more about mcauliffe s legacy, and a former student says mcauliffe always told her that she could do anything. So Concord High School students acted on that advice, putting their dreams on stars that mcauliffe wanted to reach for. Mcauliffe s image a constant reminder of what she meant. Tom she was a regular person, not a saint. She was a really, really good teacher. Ray most of the teachers that taught here when mcauliffe was here have since retired, but they say she will always be a presence here, and through things such as the class she founded, will have a living legacy. The nonprofit has created more than 40 learning centers, which are found in 27 states and four countries. The interactive Space Adventures are filled with handson experiments that get students engaged in the areas of s. T. E. M. Science, technology, engineering, and math. However, a week later, the judge tried to reduce the sentence he handed down, saying he felt it was, quote, inappropriately high. But it wasn t clear if he was allowed to do so. Said the judge can reconsider the sentence and reduce it if he wants. Salem police say they believe to robberies within a week at the same Convenience Store are connected. And we re making a dish that pairs well with it. Adam three more arrests have been made in the armed standoff at a federal Wildlife Reserve in oregon. The three suspects surrendered overnight, turning themselves in at a checkpoint set up by authorities. This comes after one person was killed and seven were arrested and charged with felonies. The leader of the group, ammon bundy, urged those still at the refuge to stand down saying the fight is now in the courts. It is unclear how many people are still occupying the refuge, but the fbi is also urging them to go home. The group was protesting after two local ranchers were sent to federal land. Right now, three escaped inmates in california are still on the run, but five people have been arrested in connection to the escape. Out of the california jail on friday. Authorities believe the inmates had outside help since the tools used for the escape were not prisonmade. According to the Orange County sheriff s office, more arrests are likely in this case. A developing story this noon the Ferguson Police department has agreed to overhaul its practices. The recommendations came after the Fatal Shooting of Michael Brown by a Police Officer back in august of 2014. The officer was cleared in the killing of the 18yearold black man, but it led to protests. The overhaul is part of a sweeping deal with the u. S. Justice department.
