we're going to check in now with kevin skarupa with a look at the forecast. kevin: the best advice is to bundle up. there's been a pretty easy go. looks like true winter feel. probably doesn't quite feel like that early this morning. temperatures aren't going up today. if anything, temperatures may be falling through the afternoon and in to this evening ultimately dropping below zero. down to nine up in berlin. mid 20's in southern areas. temperatures not going up today. if anything, holding steady or falling with a breeze out of the north and northwest. how low temperatures go with your forecast in just a bit. let's look at your we're joined live by deb davidson. >> good monday morning. all major roads in the state of new hampshire are moving well and up to speed. we're not seeing any delays right now from north of the notch to the stateline with measured. things are looking good as well on 293 paquing your way through the mill yard and down through the everett turnpike. 101 marks five weeks until the new hampshire primary. the race for the white house is really kicking in to high gear now. the granite state will play a key role for many campaigns. the candidates are spending a lot of time here. ray brewer joins us now with a look at who is in new hampshire today. good morning, ray. ray: good morning. there will be a total of six candidates that will crisscross the southern parts state. most of them have multiple stops planned. on the republican side, marco rubio kicking the day off with the town hall in hooksett. rand paul, carly fiorina also have stops today. bill clinton rallies support for his wife. they all recognize how important new hampshire is. sanders admitted he needs to win here if he's going to have any chance. analyst say it could make or break several republicans. >> they have to do well here. i think that's either at least second place or go home. that could include new jersey governor chris christie, jeb bush, john kasich. for those three, there's only one ticket out of new hampshire. be key for fiorina and rubio as well. if donald trump loses the iowa caucuses, the granite state suddenly becomes crucial to his campaign. it is safe to say new hampshire is going to be busy. each candidate pushing hard for your vote. erin: all right. thank you. maggie hassan has broken a record when it comes to fundraising. political reporter broke the numbers on our web site overnight. hassan declared on october 5th that she is running for kelly ayotte's seat in the u.s. senate. she raised $2.1 million in the last three months of 2015, breaking a record for one quarter during the off year. her campaign currently has $1.5 million on hand. ayotte has not yet releasessed her fourth quarter fundraising numbers. you can always get complete political armed protesters upset with the federal government has taken control of a national wildlife refuge in rural oregon. they are prepared to occupy the land for as long as it takes. it of clouds in western and northern areas of the state. some passing clouds for south and eastern spots. overall fair skies. not much in the way of any kind of snowfalling this morning. the big headline is the coldest air so far this winter. it doesn't say all that much considering how warm it has been. continues to move in. it will be around. highs eventually get back in to the 30's wednesday afternoon and continue to warm from there. the next system doesn't arrive until next weekend. a fairly quiet first workweek back. mainly fair skies. doesn't mean we don't see a couple of snow flakes from time to time. we can't rule out one or two across the higher terrain. wouldn't be surprised. a couple of maps hinting at the possibility of a couple of showers. don't be surprised. we haven't expecting any snow or accumulation out of what occurs out there today. most of that lake effect snow back out to the west continuing to dive south. the coldest air out of central canada. temperatures continue to fall back. we're at nine in berlin. we're at zero on top of mt. washington. two right now officially in pittsburgh. colder air continues to come in. you'll notice the temperatures continuing to fall back. five degrees colder than yesterday in southern areas. 20 degrees dolledder than yesterday at this time up north. winds are light. five to 15 miles an hour early. that's providing an extra bite to the air. wind chills below zero. likely not getting above zero through a good part of the day. the coldest of the air still has yet to build in. that will be around later tonight and tomorrow. temperatures today just not moving all that much. we should hover around in the teens in the northern parts of the state. we'll be in the lower to mid 20's by later this morning. even through the afternoon, we start to fall off. there's the look at couple of snow showers. it withers away in time for the evening commute. from there, we're looking at clearing skies. still a breeze. there will be a lot of areas north and west that are below zero overnight. a lot of sunshine tomorrow. another very cold night tomorrow night. then we start a warming trend. we should be up in to the 30's an wednesday. we'll continue to build from there. eventually by the end of the week getting back up near 40 degrees. tonight it will be below zero and double digits below zero north of the notches. single digits below zero out west. we'll be between zero and seven for manchester to the coast. a couple of very cold days. then we start to climb the ladder. the next system may be warm enough by the time it gets here. that does not look like a blockbuster storm by any stretch on the maps. if you have plans, just stay tuned for the knew answers and when it would arrive. it doesn't getting back to, you know, more of an average temperature for this time of the year. we're going to take a look at your forecast in a few minutes which includes some snow in the seven day. but first today's top stories with just five weeks left until the new hampshire primary. several presidential candidates will be hitting the trail in the granite state today. farmington police are searching for a driver that dragged a woman several feet with an suv before fleeing the scened. and a father from nashua is speaking out after watching his son fall 20 to 30 feet at ragged mountain over the weekend. you are going to hear from him coming up. for our forecast, we're looking at snow in the seven day. there's some out there. enough for it in a lot of locations by the time we get there. plenty cold enough early this morning. temperatures down in to the 20's. we'll continue to either hold steady through the day or fall off a few degrees more in to the afternoon. by later on this afternoon, we're talking lower teens up north. we'll be in the lower range in the 20's in southern area. it was a lot closer to the norm than what we've been having over the last five to seven weeks. the polls. ray brewer joins us live in our studio this morning with a look at which contenders will be here today. ray: good morning, erin. both republican and democratic candidates will be hitting the gop contenders include rubio, kasich, christie, and fiorina. on the democratic side, bernie sanders will be here today as well bill clinton who is campaigning on behalf of his wife. hillary clinton was among four presidential candidates who hosted their first new hampshire town halls of 2016 on sunday. former secretary of state, hillary clinton, held three town halls across the state on sunday. in derry, she talked about how she would fight for equal pay for women, something she says sets her apart from republican candidates. not everyone at the town hall was a clinton supporter. republican state representative, katherine o'brien, spoke without being called on saying she was trying to ask clinton about her husband's sexual impropriority years ago. >> you are very rude. call on you. reporter: bernie sanders held a town hall. his message of raising taxes on millionaires and billionaires. >> i want to make the point for the ump teeth time. this is the richest country. millions of our people should not be living in poverty. reporter: chris christie began his town hall by calling out secretary clinton for not doing enough to fight isis. he also addressed the topic of political correctness. >> i've been called a lot of things over time. politically correct has never been one of them; light? here's the thing, the attitude is for the president to change the attitude. this is a president who is absolutely marinated in political correctness. reporter: marco rubio held a patriots watch party. news 9 he already knew his team would lose and he was looking ahead to next in a hit and run. an suv dragged a woman several feet out of the beaver pond camping area around 9:00 last night and took off from the scene. the woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the hit and run. they have identified the driver. once caught the suspect will likely face felony charges. a bail hearing is scheduled today for a man suspected of holding up a store in berlin. they believe 32-year-old ryan morton robbed the variety store the day after christmas. he was arrest the last armed robbery. the father of a boy who was injured after falling off of a chair lift over the weekend is talking about the frightening experience. on saturday, doug prangley was riding a lift with his twin sons. one of the boys slipped feet. he says the lift never stopped because no one was working at the shutdown button. ragged mountain says two people were operating the lift booth. ski patrol didn't know what happened until the boy's father reached the top. >> i screamed as loud as i can for help. at this point when i saw there was no one there, i knew. it was on my shoulders. i thought i could hold him. i tried. i don't want any parent to have to make the choice or have the situation that i had and to watch your child fall going to be okay. i mean that's the thing that will probably traumatize me forever. >> aside from a concussion and bruises, his son is expected to be okay. the mountain said the state inspected the lift and determines there was no mechanical issue so it was demander in chief with or without congress. aixa diaz is live in washington. the president is back from his vacation and focusing on the polarizing issue. >> that's right. the president today is meeting with the attorney general and the fbi director to discuss executive actions on gun control. president obama: we know we can't stop every act of violence. what if we tried to stop one. reporter: he says the gun lobby is loud and well organized and so should the people that are trying to keep kids safe. he's ready to take action. >> what the president is trying to do now is to expand the instant background check by closing the gun show loophole. >> democrat candidates sided with the president. they urged lawmakers to come together. >> we need bipartisan consensus on what we should do about guns and a lot of other issues. reporter: republican hopefuls spoke out against any changes to existing laws. >> i don't like anything having to do with changing our second amendment. we have plenty of rules and regulations. >> this is going to be another illegal executive action which i'm sure will be rejected by the courts. when i become president, we'll be stricken from executive action by executive action i'll take. >> a better approach would be the approach that i had when i was governor of the state of florida where we focused on punishing people that committed crimes with and protected the second amendment rights for law-abiding citizens. >> the president is expected to talk more about the issue when he delivers his final state of the union address. erin: in addition to expanded background checks, what else is he expected to announce? >> the plan is expected to tighten rules on reporting guns that are stolen or lost when they are on their way to the buyer. the plan would beef up inspections of licensed dealers. >> thank you so much. reporting in washington. we're following a developing story out of india for you. a powerful earthquake hit the country killing six people and injuries dozens of others. the victims were hit by falling debris. the 6.7 magnitude quake caused major damage to several buildings. a newly constructed six story building collapsed as well as part of the popular market building. the newly elected mayor of the town near mexico city was killed one day after taking office. miss ocampo was gunned down. the mayor had pledged to tackle gun crime. they believe she was targeted by a cartel. two people were detained in rome after they were caught flying a drone in the vatican. they were patrolling when they spotted the small aircraft. they located the pilot and seized the drone which was equipped with a video camera. a pastor in north carolina helped save his congregation when a man armed with a gun walked in to their church. >> he said, you know, i came here with some terrible things on my mind. i wanted to do some -- i was going to do some bad things. erin: pastor larry wright was in the middle of the new year's eve sermon when he spotted a man holding the rifle. podium and confronted as church members ran for the door. he said he had previous listen been hurt, he was recently released from prison, and he was also a veteran. he then asked far prayer. >> when i told the congregation it is okay, he wants a prayer. the power of god hit. he fell to his knees and began to cry and weep. god stepped in and god moved on that young man's heart. instead of him shooting and killing a lot of people, god touched his heart. erin: after staying to watch the rest of the pastor's sermon, the man apologized to the congregation. instead of being charged with a crime, he was taken to a local facility for treatment. turning now to sports, patriots closed out the regular season by taking on the dolphins in miami. it was a slow first half for the pats. he was in obvious pain. he limped to the sideline and had his right ankle taped. the injury did not seem serious. brady did return to the game. tied 10-10 in the fourth quarter. ryan tannehill connected with jordan cameron for a two-yard touchdown. the dolphins went to win 2010. >> we always have to get better. i think we'll give us the chance to evaluation on in life. researchers at the university of california found that participating who watched the most tv and got the least amount of exercise scored lower on cognitive thinking than when they hit in. it will be around through wednesday morning. tomorrow morning will be the coldest morning. i don't think wednesday morning is going to be much of a bargain either. from there, highs get back in to the 30's. a gradual warming trend sets up the next system that arrives on saturday. we start off early this morning. cloudy in some areas. partly cloudy in others. there may be a few flurries around. the chances there even for south eastern new hampshire in to the afternoon for a few flurries or snow showers. just a fairly weak disturbance. otherwise it is the northernly breeze. not really gusty. enough to provide that extra bite to the air through the afternoon. meaning temperatures will just continue to slip back from their current levels. we start off the day in the mid to upper 20's in south eastern areas and in the mid 20's through the monadnock region. this is likely about as warm as we'll be today. temperatures hold steady and fall off for other hours through the afternoon. eventually by late afternoon we're likely in the single digits like we are up north this morning and in the upper teens. you'll also notice pittsburgh below zero already. likely headed down to 12 to 15 below. your wind chills either side of zero up north. we're in the upper teens and lower 20's. that's what you are going to want to dress for. temperatures by mid to late morning and early afternoon in the mid 20's. these are the highs for the days. it is chose to where the numbers are this morning. lower 20's in central parts of the state with partial sunshine. heading farther north, you'll notice the much colder air and hard pressed to get out of the of the single digits in parts of the north country. few flurries or a couple of light snow showers. not everywhere across the state. they will be scattered around. the best chance will be in the south eastern areas by late morning and early afternoon. nothing that's going to cause accumulations. just bear that in mind. beyond that, clearing skies for the evening. again the very cold temperatures. as cold as 12-15 below. southern areas likely just stay above zero. zero to seven. good deal of sunshine around tomorrow. temperatures teens to lower range of the 20's. about ten degrees below tonight. we'll start a moderating trend starting wednesday afternoon in the low to mid 30's. then we'll continue to climb through the 30's from there through the end of the week. lower range of the 20's for southern spots. teens up north. even some upper single digits in far northern areas of the state. there go the temperatures later on tonight. entree row to six or seven for south eastern areas while we'll be below zero in western and northern new hampshire overnight tonight. another cold day tomorrow. another chilly night tomorrow night. then we start to climb the ladder in to the 30's to even near 40. next system doesn't look like a huge system. it could be warm enough. it could be some light rain or snow. again it does not look like a major system if you are going to be traveling around next weekend. erin: the snow will come. kevin: the lowest seasonal snowfall is 27 inches of snow. we had four. it will happen.
