crash in the city at druid hill avenue and lawrence street. the earlier crash at 95, that crash has been cleared away. jamie and megan, back to you. a man is locked up in connection with the disappearance and murder of this wool woman -- this woman, mia nichols. linda so has more with how police are tracking down leads. >> reporter: good morning. police suspected the boyfriend all along. the couple apparently had a rocky relationship. autopsy results show nichols was shot to death. the young mother of three vanished last october. wheel police suspected foul play, they were unable to make an arrest. hunters this weekend found the body off dogwod road in a wooded area. nichols boyfriend told police she didn't come home from work last october and his last contact with her was a text message. witnesses including her 8-year- old told police they often saw webb beat nichols. >> they had according to the city investigation a very difficult relationship. he was abusive. he was violent. was jealous. >> reporter: this morning, webb is being held without bond charged with first degree murder. linda so, abc 2 news. elizabeth smart was 14 years old when she was kidnapped from her home in 2002. nine months later, she was rescued. that was seven years ago. now elizabeth smart is talking about her horrifying ordeal. the 21-year-old testified in salt lake city as part of a competency hearing for brian mitchell. smart says mitchell raped her three to four times a day during her nine months in captivity. she says she was told she would be killed if she yelled or tried to escape. >> i had no idea she had gone through so much out there. >> he he was twice found incompetent to stand trial. there will be more testimony in november before the judge determines whether he is competent to stand trial. don't know if students will like this but president obama and secretary duncan are talking about the idea of longer school days. the goal is to make american students more competitive with their counterparts in other countries who spend more time in the classroom. >> guess what? they under school nine hours in the day, over the weekends and in the summer. this is not a new idea. >> maryland school superintendent dr. nancy grasnik says she supports the idea. >> the acceleration of knowledge really requires us to have more time. if we compare ourselves to the competition of a student because we're in the depth of distance. in the asian countries it's 240 days of schooling. we have 180. >> but she does point out there are cost concerns in terms of teacher mia nichols disappeared last year, the family knew something bad happened. police suspected her boyfriend all along. the two had a rocky relationship. the young mother of three vanished last october. police suspected foul play but were unable to make an arrest. this past weekend, hunters discovered her body in a wooded area off woodlawn. nichols boyfriend tyrone lamont webb told police his last contact with her was a text message and that she didn't come home from work. but witnesses including her 8- year-old son, told police webb lfn beat his mother. >> when the remains were checked it was discovered the victim died of gunshot wounds. dental tests showed it was indeed nichols. >> reporter: this morning, webb is being held without bond and he he's facing three murder charges. linda so, abc 2 news. now to video you will see here on abc 2 news. police are investigating the car crash on patapsco avenue. a pickup truck crashed into a pole in the 700 block of of patapsco avenue. the driver of that truck have died. police are now looking for the man who broke into a west baltimore home and raped a woman while her children were inside. police say she was beaten and raped last wednesday about 2:00 in the morning. her children were inside the home at the time of the attack. the attack happened in the 1600 block of franklin street in west baltimore's harlem park neighborhood. women are being cautious this morning. >> it makes me mad because it could have been me. i'm 20. i'm an adult. it could have been me. a lot of love goes out for her family. >> police do have a few leads in this. they say that the victim was able to help them identify or at least put together a composite of the man who attacked her. if you look at that picture, he has hair with short braids. investigators hope someone will recognize this composite picture and help thom out finding whoever did this. if you think you recognize that picture with any information, we want to hear from you. -- assassinated was filed by a juvenile. the poll asked people should obama be killed. the choices with are no, maybe, yes, and yes, if he cuts my health care. secret service agents met with the child and the child's parents and determined there was no intent to harm the president. a firefighter in syracuse is expected to be okay after being arrested in a fire. the fireman was in the attic when his air pack ran out. he magged to stick his head out of the window and call for help. other firemen were able to pull him from the window to safety. the fire started in an empty home. no one else was hurt. he he couldn't hear the smoke detectors or call 911, but his family is alive this morning thanks to him being a hero. kent clark is deaf and mute, but the smell of smoke and fire in his apartment woke him up, and he went right into action. >> he's saying that he woke up and the whole place was in flames and he just busted out windows to drag his mom and his baby out. >> his fiancee got out first. then he handed the 4-month-old through the window. his mother was unconscious and he managed to drag herrous of the house too. his fiancee and the baby are doing okay. fire officials determine that the cause of the fire was careless disposal of smoking materials. it is the ultimate insult in islamic culture. a student journalist hurled a show at the international monetary fund
