old comes to a heart breaking end for family and friends. rodney goggins was first reported missing three weeks ago. now, his body has been found. abc2 sherrie johnson is here with details. >> reporter: well, there's still a lot of unanswered questions over the death of rodney goggins after a three- week search his body was found on sunday. a boater saw the body in a foot of water on the south shoreline and called authorities. for family and friends and fellow recruits, it's a heart breaking loss and they are their's a lot of unanswered questions like how did he end up in the water. three weeks ago when goggins left the randallstown home he said he was going to visit his girlfriend. according to his girlfriend's mother he left around midnight a few days later his car was parked on a liberty road bridge. he entered the fire academy in march training to be a emt. >> this has been a daunting three weeks just knowing our recruit is missing. and it's been an overwhelmingchallenge for the family and we are happy in a sense that we will bring closure to the family. >> reporter: now rodney goggins would have graduated from the fire academy in a few months but his body is at the medical examiner's office where an autopsy will determine the cause of death. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >> three minutes after 6. an autopsy is being done to determine the cause of death for a man pulled from the chesapeake bay a boater spotted the human remains yesterday morning south of the bay bridge. the body was then sent to the medical examiner's office to determine how long that body had been in the water as of right now that person has not been identified. another body was found in owings mills in the median of the 9900 block of reisterstown road. that's near the giant. the police say they don't expect foul play but they are treating it as a suspicious death. police are trying to identify the man. police are questioning a man in connection with a shooting in northeast baltimore that left a woman in pretty bad shape. they discovered the woman at kirk avenue as she had been shot several times sunday. officers trying to figure out why someone would have opened fire on her. the woman accused of making a bomb threat against the u.s. airways plane that spent the night -- she spent the night in a mental health if a significance. the plane was on the way to reagan airport. the plane land in dc at remote runway and everyone got off safely. fbi found no sign of explosives after searching the plane. four minutes after six. another chance to sound off about the proposed toll hikes that will be traveling around our state. a much bill bigger financial burden. the public hearing is set for today at the severn middle school on peninsula farm road in arnold. that meeting but once you call the number on the cart, the bbb says you will find out it's a travel club. you will have to attend a seminar and hand over your personal information and if you decide to join, you will pay an up front fee and recurring fees. maybe as much as 8 to 10,000 dollars according to some marylanders. >> if you stand back and look you can pay that much money and get the trips that you choose and be able to travel as you choose rather than the travel club. >> reporter: but the bbb says with the clubs you will be stuck with their choices and a long-term contract. it's a deal that may run and i want to thank lee cori -- corrigan for donating 3018 for the pool i passed. and we raised over 18,000 this year for the cool kids campaign i want to thank everybody i met. this morning a different story. we have a lot of rain basically to the south of baltimore and ann aid rundle county on through easton and this is lower eastern shore highlighting that. looks up to the north, it -- looking up to the north, it breaks around bel air. rain heavier on 95 than bel air and fallston and trying to work its way off towards cecil county but running into atmospheric roadblock here. further west we have had hits of light to moderate rain around the top side of the baltimore beltway. cockeysville towards towson and back towards westminster coming into the end of the rain. it will hit around liberty reservoir and up to the north by pretty boy reservoir and the heavier rain stays to the south. but we have to deal with that this morning. another knot of moderate rain near crofton. we have a wave of low pressure passing to the south. as that happens we churned up the wind and shifted the winds helping to keep things cool. the good news is this will be the coolest day of the week. and we get this rain out of here over the next couple hours. maybe peeking in sun with the scattered afternoon storm. but beyond that we are going to surge the temperatures up so we will enjoy what we have got. this is the most comfortable of the week. even though it's wet and a little sticky and it's going to slow travel down on this monday morning at 68 degrees, we get the rain out of here and again sun and scattered storm in the afternoon and hit or miss variety thunderstorms will look at for the next couple days. today's high temperature again, 80. and going on the lower end of our two degree guarantee. and we will pull it back into the 60s. isolated thundershower and we may have a better shot after midnight and towards daybreak. and the rest of the week we are looking at heat and humidity and afternoon storms every day. 90 tomorrow, 93 wednesday. thursday could bring severe weather at 94. and we will break that to 91 on friday and try to break that heat even more so by next report this morning when it comes to kiddy pools and your child's safety. they might want to take a dip in the hot temperatures, especially this week, but they say you are better off leaving the kiddy pools alone. sherrie johnson is here with more information on what parents need to know this morning. >> reporter: that is pretty big deal. the report conducted partly by a maryland research group says a child dies every five days in portable pools during warm weather months. report is published in the today's journal of pediatrics. the studies finding shows drownings happened when children opened the doors of their homes and climbed into the pool using a ladder or another method. it also discovered examples of kids playing in the pool when parents were not paying attention he where the moms and dads were on the cell phones or doing chores around the house. the study conducted from 2001 through 2009 shows that adults were watching the kids fewer than half the time in that most adults were home during drownings or near drowning. the journal pediatrics shows more than 200 deaths and 35 near drownings of children happened from ages 12 and under in kiddy pools. you can get more on the best way to prevent drownings is to have your child wearing a -- wear a life vest especially smaller children on build fending -- fencing around the poureddable pools. >> thanks you. 6:16 this morning. health news for you. growing concern that hundreds of hospitals are getting patients powerful ct scans and they don't need them. those additional scans mean extra exposure to radiation and extra tax money from taxpayers. a new review shows many patients are being scanned twice. usually unnecessarily. records from 2008 show many hospitals performed double scans on more than 30% of its patients sometimes nearly 90%. >> it does double the radiation exposure which is of concern, but in many instances it's an appropriate test. it's when it's not appropriate then it's needless radiation. >> experts say the double scans happen most often in smaller community hospitals while the nation's larger hospitals double scans rarely if ever. smaller community hospitals argue that they don't have the resources to make quick and efficient diagnosis on their own without the help of that second scan. 6:17 right now a new study suggest that food allergies affect more children than the government health officials estimate. the study is published in the journal of pediatrics and says one in 13 kids in the united states have some type of food allergy and researchers say 40% of the children suffer severe reaction. in the study, more of that 40,000 children, 8% had food allergies in peanuts and milk were the most common. most recent estimate from the centers of disease control found that about 3 million children have food allergies. figures from the new study translate to double that estimate. and that's nearly they say 8million children have food allergies in the united states. young athletes face a greater danger when they suffer new head blows before concussions. a study says the key findings are worrisome. especially the numbers in football players who died of head or neck blows after they had sustained recent concussions. the findings comes at time when there's growing awareness about concussions including the dangers of second impact syndrome. that's what they are calling it. the study says most of the deaths were preventable and showed the importance of better equipment better protocols for when there is an athlete injured and they should turn to
