What happened that stopped a procedure as it got started. And something lurking in the water went after a surfer on the outer banks. Eyewitness news starts right now. Breaking news is tonight. A man is shot dead. And the search is on for the killer. His body was discovered in the middle of angier avenue near glover road in southern durham. Deputies are trying to figure out how a white suv parked on the side of the road is connected to the murder. Were working to get more details. Well bring them to you here on Eyewitness News and on the abc11 mobile news app through the night. A flood of concern for good evening, im steve daniels. And im tisha powell. Water from the falls lake in wake county will be released tomorrow but many are worried about what might happen as the water flows downstream. Dejuan Hoggard is in raleigh Eyewitness News center with homeowners concerns. Now it appears tomorrow is the day for when the Us Army Corps of engineers will begin releasing water from falls lake dam. And its what comes after the release, that has people concerned. Pat berhle lives along the neuse river in raleigh, and the river, you can see its down pretty low. That was up over this. Every time theres a release at the dam, she gets water in her backyard. When Hurricane Matthew brought heavy rain and flooding to the triangle, behrle says the water was almost as high as her 6foot fence and these pictures prove it. It came in so fast. Like saturday morning we had nothing. Sunday morning we woke up and that fence was submerged. Thats a sixfoot army corps of engineers plans to start releasing water from the dam 4thousand cubic feet per second for 24 hours to be exact. And behrle would like to know in advance when the releases are scheduled. We wish there was some sort of alert system that we could track it for a while and let them know if youre going to go above this many cubic feet, you know what the flow rate is, send out an alert. She even shared these photos with abc11 from january when the water level fortunately, behrle does have Flood Insurance and knew when she moved to this home that the area was prone to flooding. For us, its only been a mild inconvenience. Further downstream, its tragic. Its been disastrous for them. To give you an idea. Four thousand cubic feet per second equates to nearly 30thousand gallons a second. Falls lake was supposed to release water earlier this week on monday. However, in high. And a release would have caused more stress for residents there. Officials will know in about 4 days how tomorrows release will affect folks downstream who have already been hit hard by matthew. Live inside the raleigh Eyewitness News center, Dejuan Hoggard, abc11 Eyewitness News. new details tonight about a crash involving a school bus in raleigh. chopper 11 hd was over the scene on skycrest drive and diquedo drive in northeast raleigh. The crash involves a pick up tck transit. The woman driving the pick up told police she swerved to avoid hitting a car stopped in front of her. And thats when they say she crossed the yellow line and hit the school bus. Police say an adult and three kids in the truck went to wake med. They havent said if the pickup driver is going to be charged. All lanes of i95 are open tonight. And the Highway Patrol looking for help in identifying one of the people who died in one of the wrecks. The large plume of smoke from the crash where state troopers say an rv rear ended the truck killing the rv happened near mile marker 95 yesterday. The rv was burned beyond recognition and investigators havent been able to identify the make, model or registration plate. This is a picture of the rv. Troopers hope anyone who was near the crash might have other pictures or video that can help. The driver was a man in his 60s. He didnt have any identifying information on him. The truck was hauling chlorine tablets and other chemicals. And was stopped after another tractor trailer veered off the road and overturned. Pinning the driver inside. Expected to face charges. Within an hour another deadly multivehicle accident in the northbound lanes left two men dead. Another in the hospital. All three were in an rv rearended by a tractor trailer. That big rig driver facing charges of misdemeanor death by Motor Vehicle tonight. Now to vote 2016. And early voting. Is really a smash hit on day one this year. polling places across the triangle report one of the busiest first days of early voting in recent locations as early voting continues. wake county is opening eleven more locations one week from today. Well have 17 days of early voting in all. It ends on saturday, november 5th. Here are a couple voting facts statewide. There 444 places to vote early. Hoping the state will reverse its decision denying their son a potentially lifesaving medical treatment. 13year old Hunter Pietrowski has an aggressive form of brain cancer thats spreading. Joel brown joins us live at duke Childrens Hospital where hunter is being treated, joel . For a child like hunter to have success with the kind of aggressive chemotherapy he needs here at duke. Doctors scheduled to begin yesterday. Then medicaid suddenly said no. Now, hunters parents are fighting back. This is my son, Hunter Pietrowski and im tiffany pietrowski. Hunters mom tiffany took her battle to facebook right after she got the news from doctors at duke that the state Medicaid Office was refusing to cover hunters potentially life saving cancer treatment. But this cute little boy right here his life is worth it. His life is worth the cost of the stem cells. Hunter was diagnosed in june with doctors successfully removed a golf ball sized tumor from his brain. But the cancer was so aggressive it had already spread to hunters spine. Mom and dad say medicaid signed off on dukes treatment plan for hunter aggressive radiation and chemotherapy so aggressive it requires regular Stem Cell Therapy for hunter 80 pound body to bounce back quick enough for the faster rounds of adult dose chemo. So we said, ok thats our best best. Lets go, lets start course. We arrive here yesterday afternoon for his 1st round of chemotherapy and we were notified that medicaid is not currently gonna cover his stem cell recovery. Tiffani got this email from duke, explaining the state medicaids Office Decision for denial. Mom says medicaid calls the stem cells experimental and unnecessary. But hunters doctors tell her without it his success rate drops from 70 to 40. So a 40 jump to 13, i dont want to see his rate drop. I dont want to see him die gasps its gotta be all or none.
