floodwaters-- swept their cars off roads. 'five' people are still 'missing'... 'four' in 'cumberland county'-- and one in 'harnett'. duke energy reports 392- thousand power outages across the state. parts of eye-40 are still closed tonight near benson. stretches of eye- 95- also closed around fayetteville. 'princeville' in 'edgecombe county' 'evacuated' as floodwaters from the tar river rise. and 'voluntary' evacuations are also in place for 'goldsboro'. the "neuse" river in that area we have team coverage tonight of matthew's aftermath. we have crews stationed in cumberland, wake and edgecombe counties--monitori ng the latest developments. but we start in cumberland county---where it's still a very dangerous situation there tonight. four people are still missing in flood waters. swift water teams from new york, new jersey, and ohio spent the morning pulling people from stranded cars and flooded homes. angelica alvarez -- is live in fayetteville with the latest car in water... i talked to the guy who says that's his car earlier... thankful he wasn't inside of it at the time... we also talked to residents living not far from here... who live right next to the river... and are worried about how high the river is. take a look... these are the backyards of people living in the rivercliff subdivision. they tell me the river is usually a good 60 feet away from their properties.sally leeman and owing us how the river water has swallowed the back of their property. leeman pointed out a bridge that she says is supposed to 12 feet above the water. she also points out all the very big... and very old trees... just sitting in water. she worries... they'll start falling onto homes. leeman says they hope emergency crews will get to soon to see what they're dealing with. earlier today in a news conference with city and county leaders they said they are still in the process of assessing neighborhoods... and say some neighborhoods are completely cut off due to flooding... and they're having to we stay in the sandhillls -- because matthew's impact, especially bad... let's go down the road to 'hoke county... where many 'homes' and many 'businesses'-- were left submerged in several 'feet' of water. people spent the day-- going through their things... figuring out just what they've lost. tim pulliam joins us live... at a restaurant that flooded. restuarant is devastated. this is the second time within 2 weeks that his business was flooded. this road leading to the restaurant was washed away from the flood last week. yesterday water from the creek swelled and forced its way inside. the owner's name is mike. he took us on the tour of the furniture and ruined his floors. mike's kitchen is a total mess. everything is knocked over or displaced. he showed us his deck which part of it is on the verge of collapsing. this building was an old corn mill. mike says he bought the place and turned it into a neighborhood bar 13 years ago. he says he invested nearly 200-grand in upgrades. tonight he says he doesn't know how get some help from fema or the let's talk about these roads. let's go about 45 miles northeast of fayetteville to emergency right now . the neuse river is cresting there tonight. bridges over the neuse are closed. the downtown area- without power. crews do expect to have the lights back on by tomorrow afternoon. "fema" is also helping in the recovery effort. rising waters force people to evacuate princeville tonight. that's in edgecombe ounty ju outside "tarboro" along the tar river. scene at six o'clock... just a 'desperate' situation in 'edgecombe county'... houses and vehicles underwater-- in what's the worst flooding since hurricane floyd. 'dozens' of people are seeking refuge inside 'shelters' tonight. we sent elaina athans and her crew tget details on the ground... elaina joins us live in 'tarboro'... right on the 'bend' of the swelling 'tar river'. elaina, princeville at risk, tonight-- what are shelters where so many people are seeking refuge tonight. we continue to see families filing in. cots have been s up dehe high school gym ans there are toys for the young kids these people you see here...were ordered to leave their homes today there was a mandatory evacuation in princeville. the tar river is swelling and could reach its second highest cres went to every home and explained to residents it wasn't safe to stay access is blocked off right now into princeville. we spoke with one woman as she was fleeing. her van was packed with cloths, pillows, blankets, and personal belongings. she survived the flood waters of hurricane llyod and refused to stay a second time. another resident ... who lives right along the river...didnt have any time to grab any items and just left with what she are providing meals to the folks who are staying here. the american red cross is helping live in tarboro ea abc11 ewn now to power outages - duke energy reports- 392-thousand power outages across the state tonight. 76-thousand of those are in wake county. crews are staging at walnut creek in raleigh. teams from indiana, new hampshire and canada are also here--working to turn the lights back on. those crews will head to eastern north carolina in the morning. before power is fully restored. and when you get to those street lights that are out.. treat them as a four way stop. 'several' school districts-- are 'closed' tomorrow... because of 'power outages'.. storm damage.. and flooding from matthew. 'wake county' schools will be closed. so will cumberland county, johnston county, harnett county, hoke county, lee county, moore county, edgecombe county, nash rocky-mount, sampson county, and wayne county. wilson county, franklin county...clinton city schools... halifax county and northampton county are all closed as well. complete list of school closings right now on a-b-c 11 dot-com. the heavy rain washing out a 'major' road in wake forest. this is what rogers road looked like yesterday-- this is near heritage high school. it's roads like this---that made wake county schools cancel class tomorrow. dejuanhoggard---l ive on rogers road tonight with an update--on the progress made to fix it. live here on rogers road in almost completely washed out -- simply impassable at this point. abc11 eyewitnesses reached out to us saturday evening to alert us of the damage. this is all due in part to hurricane matthew. sanford creek runs through this road -- and it was that creek that spilled over onto the road and caused the wash out. there is already construction on rogers road bridge that prevents drivers road all the way through. if you're familiar with this area, rogers road is a major road that sees a lot of traffic -- and it's likely this wash out will only make matters worse. especially for folks in rolesville and drivers who take use us-401. tomorrow will be the first day back to work for a lot schools will not be in session, so that will lessen the impact of this road come tomorrow morning. we reached out to the dot for comment on this road, and with it being sunday evening, they have not responded. live in wake forest, dejuan hoggard, abc11 eyewitness news our coverage of hurricane matthew's aftermath continues on the other side of the break...including a woman pressing her luck in the aftermath of the storm. plus....a very close call for a north raleigh couple at the height of matthew. why it's bringing back painful memories of hurricane fn. and...water rescue. you saw it right here on eyewitness news at six. chopper 11-h-d showing a horse....trapped in the flood waters. we have an update on what look outside of the raleigh be. chopper 11 h-d captured an amazing 'water rescue' in eastern wake county early this morning. this is highway 97... a woman decided to press her luck... ignore what authorities try to warn people about... and tried to drive through the high waters. rescuers used a raft to reach her... and brought her back to dry land. all around wake county... rising water isn't the only issue from matthew. the wind and saturated ground-- brought down trees 'large' and 'small'... just like hurricane 'fran' back in 1996. liz horton is live where it was almost 'dejavu' for one couple. liz?
