'parts' of the 'triangle' -- are under a "severe thunderstorm warning" -- until 10-30. chief meteorologist 'chris hohmann' is in the 'first alert storm center' -- tracking it all. scattered showers tonight...lows 64-68. scattered showers and are in a marginal risk for severe storms. could be a few severe storms as cold front and upper level energy move over area. a few lingering showers thursday, finally drying out and pleasant for friday and into the weekend. breaking news right now out of charlotte police headquarters evacuated for four hours - after an employee found a suspicious package in the mail room. a bomb robot was brought in to remove the package from the taken to another location where police can check it out. a police spokesman says a bomb-sniffing dog identified the package as suspicious. police say it is unclear what was in the package at this time. they are going to release that information after further tests. the employees have since been given the all- clear to go back inside the building. we will keep on eye on any new developments. you can look for updates on abc- 11-dot-com...or during this newscast. tonight in raleigh... a 'new opportunity' -- for a 'second chance'. 'wake county residents' -- 'crowded' into a 'local school' -- in hopes of 'wiping' -- 'old' criminal offenses -- 'off of their record'. joel brown joins us 'live' -- at the 'wake county justice center'. joel, the 'district attorney' told you, tonight -- 'why' she's pushing for this. since we first reported on this new program, last week-- word has spread quickly. even the wake county d-a is a bit blown away by the sheer number of local residents lining up for the opportunity to clear their old criminal record... tonight, brian bunn was one of the first in line, ... - "actually i heard some people talking about it on the bus." and after a quick google search... brian found his way to this raleigh charter school-- hosting pre- registration for wake county's new initiative to help residents get their criminal records, expunged. last week, '1000' people showed up... tonight, 'hundreds' more in a line that stretched out the door. brian says he's stayed out of trouble for the past 16 years... but the criminal offense on his record remains... putting a better job-- or bette reach. - "it makes you feel less of a person when you can't find a job. and it's just hard, it's very hard." wake d-a lorring freeman told us-- she pitched the idea several months ago to community partners and local lawyers... - "ya know, our state law says that people who fit certain criteria are entitled to a second chance." ...willing to volunteer their time to walk residents through the complicated expungement process. a chance to clear criminal low-level offenses committed as a minor or more from a resident's record. the district attorney-- who spends her days working to put criminals behind bars-- argues a shot at a 2nd chance-- is about public safety too-- stabilizing communities. - "and we know that people who are able to take advantage of educational opportunities and employment opportunities are less likely to re- offend." not everyone here will be eligible for expungement.. they try to manage expectations... - "i do wanna say, it is not gonna happen overnight!" - " registration, you don't have any answers yet; you don't know if your record is going to be expunged. is this offering some kind of hope for you? yes, this is definetly a blessing. i need this in my life." so the d-a's deadline to get residents registered for the expungement program is this friday. and volunteers are trying to squeeze in more events this week, to meet the overwhelming demand. in 'raleigh' tonight - a 19- year-old -- 'locked up' -- for a deadly shooting. "shyhem - wilkerson"... is charged with 'murder and robbery'. he's in the 'wake county jail'. they say -- wilkerson killed "arron - jacobs." jacobs was found 'shot' in a car -- on capital boulevard... near calvary drive... last wednesday. he was taken to 'wake-med' -- where he died. new tonight -- a registered sex offender charged in a murder-for- hire plot in orange county. investigators say attempted to hire someone to kill his former girlfriend's significant other. allen was taken into custody last night during an undercover operation. he's in the orange county jail under a half-million dollars bond. new tonight - a 'wake county man' -- accused of 'attacking' a 'co- worker' -- with a 'lawn mower'. "james - mcpherson"... is charged with 'assault'. he's in the 'wake county jail' -- under 75-thousand dollars bond. "everything was completely battery and assault... in an interview with our news partner... the news and observer... artis says it wasn't rape... he didn't drug her....and he has the support of his friends and teammates.
