tonight. they are ahead of the storm. it is making landfall in georgia at this hour. and when we talk about powerful hurricanes we talk about the storm surge. but what is that? what kind of destruction does it bring? greg dee explains. >> reporter: hi i am greg deeyou hear storm surge that is thrown around and here's how it works. to the left of the track of matthew the wind is onshore. push the ocean into the land. if you were to be a house on the beach this is what it hooks like as the winds increase in speed, it would take -- looks like. as the winds increase in speed it would take the ocean rising several feet in some cases. it's a flood with waves on top of that. with matthew we could see a storm surge along the florida georgia and south carolina coasts as much as 5 to 10 feet over the next 24 >> betsy is back and you showed us the bloop i guess the hurricane can come back around. how unusual that? >> that eventual track is not one we typically see. it's getting caught up inwesterly but interestingly inust first coast st. augustineing in aler we are seeing a lot of doge. last time they were directly hit by a storm was -- of hit was a storm and floyd skirted by but that never came onshore. it was more of a marine problem. this thing is so close to shore literally the highest wind associated with this storm are like 30 mimes offshore. it's -- miles offshore. it's so close and that's why it's been so problematic. inside the rain bands we get severe thunderstorms even tore natick thunderstorms and all of this continues to flow in. they are getting amounts of rain. so they have inland flooding happening. not only that but greg mentioned we have all the wind pushing water inland as well. and so you kind of have all the water gathering specifically in areas close and just to the west of the inner continental and -- intercontinental. and it's getting nasty. as far as the wind forecast the highest wind associated with the storm will back off but notice how everything begins to move northward as the core of north. it is likely that it will make landfall either in northern georgia and southern pourings of the south carolina coastline. and -- portion of the south carolina coastline and power outages a million people are without power in florida friends. that's awful and the power outage is not going to get better as the storm goes north. of course they have what lot of rain in south carolina. so, they have just a total flooding potential but all the roots of the trees over. and i mentioned the rain we have got anywhere from 3 to 10 to possibly 12 inches additional rainfall that is still to fall from the storm as it continues to move northward. that's through 6 p.m. and greg mentioned the storm surge and still we are looking for the storm srnlg potential with the onshore wind to push those -- surge potential with the onshore wind to push those waters in that will cause foundation of homes and vegetation too so big problems meanwhile, here in northeast ohio it couldn't be better. we have beautiful conditions around the area for the evening. we will fade back from the 70s into the 60s and yeah rain chances start to sneak in and we have been keeping an eye on matthew but to the west there's a front that's moving in. and that front will pass through later tonight. we will see clouds on the increase as we head through late evening rain chances staying off to the east of us. that's an upper level jet stream interacting with the outside layefa matthew's moisture. notice how the clouds increase. rain chance in the early morning. front comes through though probably predawn and we could have morning sprinkles and than we get into the afternoon and it will be cool and it will be breezy but as of right now other than some isolated lake- effect rain showers, i think we will have a dry day tomorrow with partly cloudy skies expected in the afternoon. your window nation forecast shows that well, except for the ald is the not -- is not mid to upper 60s through monday and tuesday and wednesday of next week with that sun continuing to shine. >> you can never have enough alds. >> i am a little distracted today. i will be honest. >> okay. thanks. each and every day people work to make a difference in our community. and one of the folks is brunswick high school senior andre wilson. jasmine monroe is back with more on how he is helping to improve lives of others. >> you are that's cool. >> reporter: brunswick high school senior andre wilson is known for going above and beyond to help out others. >> i did it sns i was 9 and kind of built up and kind of became something that was fun to me. >> reporter: looking up to his mother he started volunteering with university hospital at a young age but quickly developed from a special events helper to a child life specialist. >> he is such an engaging personality i knew that because and he could be successful. >> reporter: with aspiration of being a pediatric nurse practitioner he says he learned a lot. >> i've been more humble. >> reporter: he maintains 3.5gpa and honored during a on field pregame ceremony at a indians game and will continue to volunteer because his goal is to make as many kids smile as he can. >> they are having a good time and i think that i in some sense do >> help make a dins difference october 22nd join cruel un-- volunteers and
