>> problems continue to plague healthcare.gov. the white house won't say how many people have been able to select a health insurance plan. >> nobody is as mad as me that the website isn't working as well it should. that means it's going to get fixed. >> president obama said experts are working on it repairs but is not giving a target date when the software will be up to speed. >> there are problems throughout the site. it could take weeks or even months to fix. >> this is a system that was rushed out much too quickly. they didn't have a chance to thoroughly test the system before it went into operation. >> with one change already in the works, users will be able to view plans without having to first fill out applications with huge amounts of personal information. >> tara mergener, wjz eyewitness news. >> there were a few scary moiments duringy moments during -- scary moments during the president's speech. a lady almost passed out. after the event she thanked the president for catching her. she tweeting she went feeling that great because she's pregnant. a school shooting near reno, nevada leaves two people dead, including the gunman who is a child. it happened at sparks middle school shortly before class started. officers say the gunman killed a teacher and shot two other students. they say appears the teacher was killed trying to intervene and stop the gunman. there's no word on a motive at this point. wjz will have more on this still developing story in a few moments. we are learning more about a deadly shooting at bally's hotel in las vegas. denise is in the news room with the latest. >> reporter: an argument over the cover charge led to the casino. one patron was killed when he tried to subdue the gunman. two employees were hurt. the shooter is believed to have acted alone. he was taken to the hospital. we do not have word yet on his condition. police have not released the names of the shooting or victim. >> gambling continued after the shooting but yellow crime tape stretched around the slots. a gas leak forces an elementary school in baltimore county to let students out early. sky eye chopper 13 is over dogwood elementary in wood lawn. there was an odor of gas inside the school. bge was called to the scene and found that all the lines outside the school were safe. the school is now investigating inside the building to find an exact cause. police in anne arundel county need your help to find the person they say robbed a bge substation. police say this man is suspected of stealing copper from the substation on war chapel road. they say the man cut a hole in the fence and stole various amounts of copper. you recognize this person call crime stoppers. also in anne arundel county three teens are facing felony theft charges after they confessed to stealing ammunition owned by the federal government. mike schuh has our story. >> this is what police found. >> at approximately 1:50 a.m. officers were on patrol. >> they say a car driven by brandon shreve hit a car and drove away, parking with the lights off. >> officers approached the vehicle and noticed loads and loads of ammunition. >> police say they couldn't comp with the reason they had so much ammo and it was special ammo. >> it came to our attention that a storage shed that's owned by the u.s. air marshall service was burglarized. >> burglary tools were found, including a bolt cutter. >> an 18-year-old and 15 and 16-year-old juveniles involved. >> all three were airs ed were arrested. only shreve was identified as hr 18. >> court records indicate the 15-year-old is from glen burnie and the 16-year-old is from baltimore. workers at the port of baltimore are back on the job after striking last week. longshoremen went on strike last week after contract negotiations stalled tuesday. three other unions representing port workers joined that strike. the port of baltimore said management and the longshoremen agreed to a 90-day it's 65, 61 oakland, 62 ocean city, 70 cumberland. the dew points down at 40 degrees. this morning, look at the morning lows, 38 at the airport, 32 in cumberland. they're up to 70 now. 37 at the ocean city airport and oakland bottomed out at 34. dc the wart spot at 36. tomorrow we have another front headed our way from the north, northwest. it will bring clouds and cooler temperatures tomorrow night and early wednesday. we may see a period of rain developing along that front. we expect to see low pressure. we have rain in the forecast late, late tonight night and on wednesday. temperatures are going to get chilly. let's check on our roads. here is christy breslin at wjz traffic control. >> we are starting off with a lot of accidents. northbound 95 at white marsh boulevard. right now delays stretching back to mirevea road. too many accidents in baltimore county. a couple include east northern parkway at york road, washington boulevard at south monroe and eastern boulevard between quinton and 45th street. the west side inner loop slowing down from 895 over to liberty road. on the topside of the inner loop moving at about 35 miles per hour and delays from the jfx back to harford road. there's delays on 95 going back to harford county. watch for slowing northbound 95 from 322 over to 100. let's take a live look. not too bad there on the beltway at greenspring avenue. this the cause of the fire at the majestic hotel. no one was inside when the fire broke out. it took 3 hours for firefighters to get those flames under control. halloween is first approaching. one florida with in minnesota. a blast of winter weather is coating parts of the upper midwest. there's just enough snow accumulation for kids to make snow balls and for the parents to scrape off the car. the snow has sense moved out. temperatures are going to be in the 40s for the next couple of days. some shoppers at a florida wal-mart get trapped inside when an alligator blocks the entrance and the exit. it happened at a store in apoka. the slow-moving gator set off the automatic doors forcing employees to lock them. police and animal control were called for the scene. for shoppers seeing the gator so close is a scary sight. >> it was right against the door. i mean, you could see it. i mean, it was probably five, almost six foot long. it was a nice size gator just chilling. >> there he is just chilling out. no one was hurt. the 6 foot gator eventually movd d along and returned to a near by body of water. a peaceful day out on the water turns into a scary lesson of survival for two new hampshire men. they're boat capsized leaving them stranded in the ocean for hours. >> it was supposed to be a leisurely day at sea. their trip took a terrifying turn. >> we knew it would be a long night. >> the men say a strong gust of wind caused their 25 foot homemade sailboat to capsize, leaving them clinging for life on a wooden plank on top of their boat. >> our best chance was to stay with the boat. >> the men had no radio to call for help. the one with life jacket drifted away. as the hours passed in the dark of night they turned to their faith. >> we prayed together and encouraged each other. that's a life or death struggle. . >> their prayers were answered early saturday morning when a fishing crew spotted their bolt and called for help. >> they were very cold. they were very thankful that wed them and that we took them in. >> the men were brought back to dry land safely, cold, wet and a little shaken up from their or deal. >> i can not imagine being out there for 14 hours. >> the men refused medical attention once they made it back to land. we are updating the developing story out of nevada. a child is dead after a shooting at a school. teresa garcia has the latest for wjz. >> police in nevada say a student opened fire on a campus at sparks middle school shortly before class started. officers say he killed the teacher and shot two other students. >> one has gone through surgery and is out. the other individual is doing well. >> the suspect is also dead. police say they have nearly 30 witnesses to interview and video to review but that it appears the teacher was shot and killed trying to intervene and stop the shooter. >> as you can imagine, the best description is chaos. it's hard to say whether he was targeting specific people or going on a shooting spree. >> nearly 200 law enforcement officers secured the school. students from the middle school and elementary school evacuated to a high school. >> i want to say how tragic this is and how saddened we are. our students safety and our staff's safety is of utmost paramount concern to us. >> the school district said it's closing sparks middle school for the week as it offering counseling titanic as it sank. >> this violin belong today a musician named wallace heartily. he was the bad leader of the titanic. that's why the instrument fetched $1.7 million in action. the violin didn't fall to the ocean floor. they believe it was strapped to heartily's body when it was pull from the water. what helped identify it was an engraving. for wallace on the occasion of our engagement from maria. the violin was returned to her after the ship wreck. she never married. >> to be fair, other historic violins have gone for more. one fetched almost $16 million. this is one of many titanic artifact has come up for auction. it tells a story that is a romance and a tragedy. >> as remembered in film, this is believed to be the instrument heartily used for the hem mirror my god to thee as bit now to the south and southeast at 12. the barometer is going to start the fall as the front approach from the west. 70 in cumberland. this morning they were 32 degrees. oakland now 61. they were 34 we're at 65 now at the airport, they were down to 38. familiarly thursday and friday we will probably see our first frost. 67 dc now, 63 ocean city and easton up there at 68. once again, very dry air will continue tonight. 66 bel air, 63 by the bay, annapolis and on kent island. right now we have a southeast wind in the region. tomorrow it shifts back to the west as the front approach from the west. we will have some clouds. temperatures behind that front, 49 in chicago, only 38 minneapolis. there's been snow most of the day in the upper peninsula of michigan and across northern sections of minnesota. temperatures in the mid 30s. 37 winnipeg. 84 in phoenix, south of us in the 70s ahead of this front. we're going to have that front go through the area tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow night. we will start seeing some clouds on the increase late tomorrow night. maybe, just maybe a shower will come through the area with that front. along that front we expect low pressure to develop. so tomorrow night and early wednesday, that's when we have the best chance of picking up some rain. most of it to the east of us. we have some rain in the forecast for wednesday and certainly cooler temperatures. wednesday may not get out of the low 50s, particularly if we have rain around the area. west winds on the bay 5 to 10 knots. sunrise 7:24, sunset at 6:18. bay temperature stuck there around 65 degrees. over night tonight, generally a fair night. late tonight some increasing clouds. down around 46. warmer than it was this morning. tomorrow back up exactly where we were today but we'll have a lot more clouds. late tomorrow night, maybe after 11:00, a little rain develops. it looks like that rain chance will continue into your wednesday morning drive. so we have to deal with that. after that temperatures only to be in the low to mid 50s for the rest of the week. it will be 8 to 10 degrees cooler than average and a chance of frost. >> so far so good. we've been spoiled. this morning christy officially dropped his appeal. >> the governor argues the institution of marriage for 2000 years has been between a man and woman. he's now promising to uphold the state's new law, allowing same-sex marriages. >> marly hall, wjz eyewitness news. >> new jersey has recognized same-sex unions since 2007. more arrests are expected in the case of two florida inmates who escaped from prison using forged documents. mary is news room with more on this. >> reporter: investigators believe the convicted killers had help getting the forged documents. this is brand new cell phone video of u.s. marshalls capturing the men. the prisoners are back in custody and being questioned by police and the florida department of corrections. the investigation is focusing on who forged the papers for them and helped them hide from police after their scam was discovered. the men were at the hotel when they were arrested because they were waiting for somebody to arrive from atlanta to take them out of state. back to you. >> thank you. the pa panama city police department is pursuing a tip that someone was offering to forge documents for prisoners for $8,000. it may be a case of like mother like daughter. vivian vosburg is under arrest for suspected child abuse. her daughter is already under arrest for bullying a girl who committed suicide. >> the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. >> harsh words from polk county sheriff judd after he saw this. >> what is wrong with you? >> a surprising video showing vivian vosburg punching and hitting kids. the video was deemed child abuse and negligent. >> do you have anything to say? >> the mom was arrested just five days after vosburg's daughter 14-year-old guadalupe shaw was charged and arrested with aggravated stalking and bullying that contributed to the suicide of 12-year-old rebecca sedwick. shaw's attorney denies that charge. >> according to an affidavit vosburg said two boys were having a fight and she was just trying to break them up. she added that she was having a bad day. >> what is wrong with you? >> the woman in this video is a far cry from the concerned mother who told me she was sure her daughter was wrongly accused. >> i think it's not fair because they're punishing my daughter for something they're saying she did over the internet. i know that my daughter couldn't do something like that. >> she told cnn she monitored her children's social media accounts. this sheriff's department said they easily located this video on facebook. meanwhile the sedwick family still copes. >> sedwick jumped to her death a month before her 13th birthday. homicide detectives make an arrest in a murder. marvin hut ton shot and killed ron williams on september 24th. police found williams body on up shaw road in the lake side neighborhood. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. the motive is not being released. be careful if you're going to the woods of western maryland this week. the annual black bear hunting season is now open in allegany and garrett counties. it will go until saturday unless the number of bears killed reaches the state's quota of 95 to 130. the state issued 380 bear permits. each headed our way. looks like the balance of this week will be from 5 to 10 degrees lower than average. our average is now in the mid 60s. could see some rain late tomorrow night, early wednesday. we'll accidents go. if you're traveling along 70 westbound we have an accident after the beltway. apparently a vehicle has gone over the embankment northbound 295 also at route 100. the west side inner loop slows down from 95 back to liberty road. 34 miles per hour average. on the topside of the inner loop slow traffic from greenspring avenue to harford road. the accident at 95 at white marsh boulevard has been cleared but still a steady delay. it ranges up to route 24 in harford county. average speed about 24 miles per hour. back to those accidents. east northern parkway at york road, west north a number 80 jets jerry getting involved in a scuffle near the concession stand. as he's being pulled away a blonde woman pushes him. she responded with a hard right that connects with her face, then a patriots fan punched him. the jets said we do not tolerate that matter. >> no one was seriously injured not fight. peal, blonde and blue-eyed, a 4-year-old is found in grease with a couple posing as her parents. >> the girl known only as maria is seen play with woman accused of abducting her. she's thought to be 5 or 6 years old. an investigator became suspicious because the girl didn't look like the people claiming to her parents. they told the judge monday the child's boy logical mother gave maria to them because she could not look after her. they are charged with kidnapping her. >> claiming that we never abducted this child. we just adopted her. >> police suspect the girl is a victim of child trafficking. the couple's lawyer said if that were true they would've sold her instead of spending money to care for her. he said they provided this bed, dolls and love and raised the girl since she was a baby. investigators say maria speaks only a few words of their language. geek social services are caring for the girl while investigators pursue thousands of phone and e-mail tips around the world, including the united states. >> now, greek authorities say they're looking into whether the child was illegally registered to claim government benefits or being used to beg for money on the streets. if you tried to post on facebook you might have experienced technical difficulties. an error message said there's a problem please try later. some users were able to do status updates and posts. facebook said the site went down for required maintenance. in tonight's wjz health watch a new study shows spanking your child may be more damaging than first thought. allison harmolon reports for wjz. >> studies show spanking can lead to behavioral problems. now researchers found it might hurt a child's cognitive development. >> children spanked by fathers showed decreases in verbal capacity by age 9. >> children spanked were more likely to break rules. >> scientists look at nearly 2,000 children and found that spainging is still very common. >> 50% of parents were spanking. >> wendy bradford is trying hard not to spank. >> i'm stuck with three kids in a small apartment who have the distance. barometer holding steady, currently 30.03. humidity way down. winds south, southeast at 12. the dew point is down at 40 degrees. dry air. 72 in cumberland. they warm ed ed up. 61 oakland, 62 ocean city and 67 in dc. locally temperatures in the mid 60s, which is where it's supposed to be on this date in october. it's going to get colder this week though. southeast winds tomorrow. a front will come through the region tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow night. it will bring some clouds. it doesn't look like we see any precipitation until late, late tomorrow night. you can see the difference in the temperatures here. 60s and 70s here, 40s, 50s, even the 30s across southern canada. portions of northern minnesota saw a couple inches of wet know. some areas near lake michigan saw shower activity. you can see the chilly air moving down. as this cold air comes across the great lakes, looking to have the first lake effect snow of the season. that means you get the cold air moving over the lakes and picks up that moisture. if it's not low to mid 30s, temperatures cold enough for snow you will see a lot of areas around eerie, buffalo, cleveland may see some snow. particularly the end of the week as that cool air moves across the great lakes. the front to the west of it, not sure if it's much of anything. it will pick up moisture. clouds coming in late tomorrow night. we may see some rain with that front. we expect to see something develop off the east coast, means enhanced rain along the coast. tomorrow night and wednesday morning is your best chance of picking up rain. behind the front it turns chillier, quite a bit cooler by wednesday, thursday and friday. temperatures running about 8 to 10 degrees cooler than normal. we will talk about the low to mid 50s and nighttime lows in the 30s and 40s. if it stays clear we have a good chance of getting frost later this week in the northern and western areas. a quick look at the tropics. believe it or
