filed an opening brief in federal court yesterday -- appealing a ruling that overturned dassey's conviction. in august, a federal court ruled dassey has been coerced by investigators into confessing to helping his uncle, steven avery, kill teresa halbach. at that time, the judge ordered dassey be reles was an appeal or retrial. with that appeal now filed -- the 7th circuit court will decide if the ruling stands. new information this morning... about an investigation conducted near the scene of the officer involved shooting... that left syville smith dead. angelica has the latest. police wanted to go through the cell phones found inside the car smith was in... for a drug investigation. police found three flip phones inside the car - all of which were on. the state d-o-j also says investigators found heroin and enough to make them think it was for distribution. a green bay man was with smith at the time and was arrested on the spot. smith, of course, ran from police. they say an officer fatally wounded smith when he turned and pointed a gun at the officer. the d-as office here says it has reviewed this drug case but has yet to file any charges, instead opting for further investigation. the review of the officer-involved shooting of sylville smith is still onoing; there is no timetable for a decision in that case. is facing charges -- in connection to a milwaukee night club shooting. early sunday morning -- police say 22-year-old "lillie jones" shot a 23- year-old woman sitting in a car. prosecutors say the two women had gotten into some sort of fight inside the onyx night club near 32nd and villard. jones is an employee at taycheedah correctional institution. we're told: she's on administrative leave as the case is being investigated. charges are now pending against the kenosha woman accused of prostituting her own daughters. her arrest was part of a 55-year-old paula whittaker hasn't been arraigned yet. but according to the f-b-i she advertised her 16 and 17-year-old daughters online. whittaker and her family lived in an apartment above a shop. the owner says he knew something was off. on friday his security cameras caught a heavy police presence.
