"i was fe championships in 2014 butt im having a great day and after i scored a touch we bumped ever so slightly butt and the referee says en guard! butt and my arm wont obey me. joe bieble is a 64 year old world champion fencer, its something ive enjoyed my whole life. but overcoming this injury i couldnt move my arm. soon became the biggest bout hed ever face. i thought stroke, the semi-final match was immediately stopped and joes future in fencing along with it. what followed were mris, assessments of joes physical health and consults with several surgeons. this required somebody with exceptional skill someone who can do a three disc fusion in one operation. and the doctor for the job? dr. shakar kurpad most usually when someone has neck pain and arm pain followed by weakness followed by the symptoms in the order typically you think of a joes situation we were at between here and here so 4, 5, 6 and 7 so these three discs were abnormal. joe had a three level disc herniation causing nerve compression and weakness and pain in the arm. butt the procedure he underwent we would call aanterior cervical discectomy and fusion. without surgery, all of the activities that joe knew so well, including fencing would be extremely limited and would tell he was a very motivated guy and he clearly had done his research. the successful surgery was great first step on joes road to a full recovery... hard to tell where you are at that point because its now been over four months since the injury all of the muscles are gone so event though i could you know my arms lost half of its mass only so only time will tell but i tell my arm what to do and it does it. and he was also the kind of person who wasnt going to sit on it wasnt going to except a reduced level of functionality for the rest of his life. he was going to do something about trying to get better. and joe made sure he pushed himself and worked hard. thats up to you. you know so i was very intent to make it absolutely sure i didnt waste this opportunity. the people that get better are believing theyll get better. butt theres an element of faith and preparedness from the mental perspective that i think that a patient goes into. i wanted to make sure that this investment of his effort and the risk and all of these things paid. i wanted to go very far and so i created my own rehab, butt ive even created a number of resistance systems simple bungee systems to exercise difficult to exercise muscles. the pro myself? but patience is such an important aspect of this. butt but interestingly im stronger after two years of rehab joe was back competing at nationals and has reserved a spot in his medal case for 2017 and another world championship medal. you have to put yourself out there you have to take a risk you have to say heres what im going to do. butt its a lot harder to not follow through if you put it out fencing academy in brown deer and is always taking on new students. you can find more information on our website, fox 6 now dot com. ad lib about pkg coming up on fox 6 news at four... it's the story of two young kids navigating hollywood in the 1950's. we talked to d movie-- "rules don't apply." here's a live look outside from our camera on top of the moderne building in downtown milwaukee. ad lib what you see weather expert tom wachs is up next with a look at the the butterburger is made of just three cuts of fresh midwest beef. nothing more, nothing less. so we got the sirloin, the chuck and the plate. no fillers; that's it. all well-marbled for richness and flavor. this is where those three wonderful cuts of beef come together. you can just tell that blend is working in there. and we sear them, and that seals in the juices of the burger. it doesn't get any better than that. and that's the culver's butterburger. lows will be in the mid 20s again tonight. the 40s return tomorrow along with our next "system." we may see a few isolated showers or flurries early tomorrow. rain looks most likely in the pm hours, with the chance for a slushy mix after midnight. tonight: increasing clouds. low: 25 nd i heard eisenhower sent him a telegram. if eisenhower was really smart he'd have howard i heard eisenhower sent him a telegram. if eisenhower was communism over and done with. i think howard hughes should be president. there's nobody like him he's on another level. the poor man has a deal with these twa stock holders who are crabbing about moving from propellers to jets and at the same time he now has senate that hercules can fly." it's a story of two young people finding their way through the bright lights of hollywood in the late 1950's. gino sat down with the director of "rules don't apply" warren beatty. ad lib to bite "this is not a biopic were telling everybody. thats important because if they think biopic of howard hughes they will be disappointed if they wanted to see a biopic of howard hughes. no this is a movie about two young very religious kids she comes from virginia shes a baptist and he comes from about the what i would say the sometimes comical consequences and also sometimes sad consequences of american sexual puritanism. that often makes us the laughing stock of france and time period very well -- because he lived through it. period very well -- because he lived through it.
