side of the road... a woman holding a baby... and a school bus stopped in the distance. thats when one of the 14-year-old victims appears on the left side of the screen... standing in a ditch in the front yard of a home. suddenly... a pitbull lunges at her... knocking her to the ground. the other 14-year-old victim is then observed already on the ground being attacked by another pitbull.... we know the initial attack occurred inside one of the victims home. the girl attempted to get away from the dogs by fleeing out the dogs pursued and attacked her and a friend until the officer intervened. chief michael kass says the officer... who has been with the department for five years, approached the animals and fired six shots, all of them ?hitting the two dogs. one dog died at the scene... the other was later put down. kass says the girls suffered severe bites and scratches all over their bodies but their injuries do not appear to be one of the victims did live in the house with the dogs. police say the owner of the dogs is cooperating. he... by the way... is not related to either victim. a decision has not yet been made whether any charges will be filed in this case. live in brown deer, madeline anderson, fox six news. mary thanks madeline. brown deer police had much more to say about this incident -- and we posted an extended clip from the news conference on fox6 now dot com and the fox6 news app. just search "dog attack." a 30-year-old milwaukee mother is under arrest after police say sh killing the child. m-p-d says the incident happened saturday night at a home near 54th and north. according to police, the mother was under the influence of narcotics... and while sleeping, she slouched down onto the child, causing the child to lose consciousness. the baby was taken to the hospital, but died yesterday from her injuries. ? the district attorney must now decide whether criminal charges should be filed. police van... now faces five criminal charges... four of them felonies. a criminal complaint says - "it was all over and done with in five minutes. i mean, so they made fifteen grand in five minutes." while the jeep was parked behind a popular third ward restaurant, thieves broke in and took off with the 2003 "i have speakers you know i have stands and lights numerous setups and that was all in the jeep." kreier is a d-j and had spent the day performing for some friends. he says he had about 13 thousand dollars worth of support equipment and cash in his girlfriend's jeep, when a group broke into the vehicle--in broad daylight--and stole it from the lot. "i think people were eating lunch 25 yards away while these kids are about it." a friend shared this cell phone video of what surveillance cameras caught. m- p-d says it's working to identify and arrest the suspects----and recover the stolen jeep. kreier is holding out hope for the equipment's return; he says it took him five years to buy all of it in the first place and replacing it won't come cheap. "according to the most current building code in wisconsin and recommendation from almost every fire service out there. a smoke alarm should be placed in every bedroom. every hallway within six feet of a bedroom and officials say house fires spread almost two to three times faster than they did 30 years ago. research shows, having a working smoke alarms in your home, cut the risk of death in half. if you need a new fire alarm -- you can register online. head to fox-six-now-dot-com and click on links. a group of county and city leaders are taking action of their own in the debate over the estabrook dam. milwaukee mayor tom barrett, metropolitan sewerage district have come up with a plan to tear it town. first-- the city would rezone the dam out of county park land-- then it would be sold to m-m-s-d for a dollar so they could tear it down. the three say the plan is the most cost effective way and environmentally- friendly option. however-- the milwaukee county board says there are other motives behind the plan. "the county executive has approved of repairing estabrook dam in the past and proposal in order to set the precedent for selling and rezoning milwaukee county park land." according to board members-- if the plan goes through-- selling and rezoning that county park land would not require board approval. kohl's announcing a donation of more than one-and a half million dollars to the milwaukee art museum today. the donation will come in increments over the next three years. it began in 2008. the program provides educational hands-on art experiences to children. since partnering with kohl's -- family participants have shot from nine- thousand to 300-thousand each year. kohls has donated more than $8 million to the milwaukee art museum. as it makes landfall in haiti today -- cuba prepares for hurricane 'matthew.' the cuban government evacuating some two hundred thousand people from southern coastal and low-lying communities. experts say the storm surge the category four hurricane has maximum sustained winds of one hundred forty-five miles-per-hour. the cuban national electric company u- n-e deploying thirty trucks and one hundred sixty workers to help with power outages. as matthew approaches-- local families are concerned for the well being of loved ones stationed in guantanamo bay, cuba. approximately 120 soldiers from the wisconsin army national guard's 32nd military police company are stationed there. franklin resident david coolidge... says his son is police that has to stay and ride out the storm.
