road watch. some central iowans are waking up to slick streets this morning. we're live where traffic could get messy... plus when a winter warm-up will wipe travel troubles away. roads in ames got an unexpected wet down yesterday. hear why it has one homeowner upset with the city today. and what people there should do before turning on the faucet this morning. the death of a rocker with iowa ties is back in question. how locals are getting a special chance to see who may really be to blame for it all. it's tuesday, february 16th. today first on 13... des moines police were busy overnight with two chases on wet metro streets... the first started around 1:30 on a vehicle led officers on a chase that reached speeds as high as 60 on city streets and 100 mph on the interstate. the driver eventually crashed at e 21st and university. they were arrested soon after. just minutes later... a chase lit up des moines' west side. this one started on 24th... the driver eventually got out of their car and started running. officers caught up to them just a short while later in a garage in the 2400 block of prospect. they took one person into custody. we're learning more this morning about a deadly weekend shooting involving urbandale police. it happened early saturday at the "holiday inn" on merle hay road. officers were responding to a drug complaint, when a fight broke out in the lobby. officials say 29 year old ali yahia, of des moines, was the firing a gun. police returned fire and killed him. no one else was hurt. the officers involved are jeff casey, anthony brooks, and justice weaver. they're on paid administrative leave while their colleagues investigate. some people in ames have some major cleaning up to do today... "it was coming into the back door, the laundry, the kitchen, part of the living room, the garage." a water main break yesterday had water surrounding marsha osting's home. it happened on 12th street between clark and wilson avenue. crews had to shut down several streets... but an estimated one million gallons flowed out before they were able to bring it all to a stop. now osting says the city is asking her to pay for the damage.
