responsible for the damages. wet commute... it's a soggy start to the day in the metro... but to the north, that rain could turn to ice. we'll have a live report to show you what to expect. it's tuesday, february 16th today in iowa starts now. first on 13... drivers are roads this morning. last week we dealt with strong this morning, most of the metro will have to commute through a rain-snow mix. channel 13's josh nguyen joins us now live from ames where temperatures could turn that a busy morning for des moines police as they dealt with two overnight chases. the first started around 1-30 on the city's east side. and led officers on a chase at 100 miles per hour on the interstate at one point. the driver eventually crashed at east 21st and university. police arrested the person soon after. just minutes later... officers moines' west side. this one started on 24th... the driver eventually got out of their car and started running. officers caught up to suspect just a short while later in a garage in the 2400 block of prospect. that person is now in custody. we now know the three metro police officers involved in a deadly weekend shooting. urbandale police say they've placed jeff casey, anthony brooks, and justice weaver on paid administrative leave... which is standard procedure. their years of service range from 1 to 20 years of service. investigators say the man who died from his injuries sustained in the shooting is 29-year-old ali yahia, of des moines. the incident happened early saturday morning at the "holiday inn" on merle hay road. police say the three officers were responding to a drug complaint, when a fight broke out in the lobby. that's when officers say yahia started firing a gun. urbandale police, polk county attorney's office and the iowa d-c-i are now investigating. a bus driver has pleaded not guilty to the charge that he hit and and killed an iowa state student, and then left the scene. ben clague was driving the bus that police say hit and killed i-s-u freshman emmalee jacobs. police say surveillance footage showed clague stopped the bus shortly after the accident to check the vehicle for damage and then continued on. clague will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on march 22nd. his trial is scheduled for april 5th. a water main break caused headaches not only for the city of ames but it could leave a homeowner with a bill for some of the damage... around 2 p-m monday...city crews responded to large water main break on 12th street between clark avenue and wilson avenue. the water surrounded the home of marsha oh-sting, shut down caused flood damage to her home in the process. it is estimated that nearly 1 million gallons of water had been released before crews could isolate and shut down the 14 inch main break. osting says she has lived in her home for 20 years and has never had any flooding problems but it may be up to her to pay for the damage. "lady from the city told me to call service master and get them here to clean it up and then she came back in and said the city isn't necessarily going to pay... they consider it as an act of god."
