>> jennifer: boston police say this was a peaceful protest. no arrests, no issues. boston police estimate the crowd an anti-trump rally outside the statehouse drew thousands. >> our streets. >> we just want to stand up for the hate that's going on right now. >> and we're out to let people know that he's not our president. simple as that. he's not going to be my president. ly never address him as such. >> jennifer: it started as a facebook event, boston against trump rally, and grew to thousands marching to the band stand on boston common. it was created by the boston socialist student, a 99%. >> trump has said some hideous things about women, immigrants, people of color, all these things, so we want to build a movement to press back against what we think is going to be his repressive agenda. >> i personally do not agree with the outcome of the election, and i want to make sure that whatever happens our country stays united. >> jennifer: roads were closed as the protests, which continue to grow, march up beacon street and back to the statehouse. police say the rally was deal with this crowd. it's a very large crowd. we had a march earlier with a different group. that went fine. they were very cooperative. >> jennifer: one thing that's important to note: many of the people out here last night said they weren't out here to back hillary clinton, rather they were supporters of bernie sanders. we're live in boston, jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england." >> sarah: boston public schools supporting students after the election. the superintendent sending a letter to parents offering help. 7's victoria warreiv explain how they're helping the children cope. >> victoria: good morning. this is an unprecedented move for boston public schools after an election. they're going to have councilors on hand to help any student having difficulties with this election. there was an open letter from the superintendent that went out to parents, and school officials told them they believe that they need to have these kind of resources on hand because the superintendent told students that the district honors our democratic values while saying celebratory for others. in this open letter to parents, he wrote, "as educators we should use this opportunity as a teachable moment to have conversations with our students. we must ensure that our students feel safe by providing safe and respectful learning communities." so in addition to the support services they're offering for students, they are also offering support services for teachers. live this morning in roxbury, victoria warren, 7news "today in new england." >> christa: all right, vicky. thank you. it's 5:08. five people were not in seattle overnight and now police are searching for the gunman. authorities say a man ran off after firing into a crowd outside a convenience store last night. four men and a woman were rushed to the hospital. we're told their injuries range from critical to serious, and once again the gunman is still on the run. >> sarah: right now police in rochester, new hampshire, are looking for the driver who allegedly hit a pedestrian and then took off. happened on bess road last night. according to investigators, the 26-year-old victim was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. this morning officers are looking for a dark-colored sedan. >> christa: and a freshman at brighton high school is facing serious charges, accused of stabbing a classmate. this alleged attack happened in the school cafeteria wednesday morning. school officials say the victim was stabbed in the leg and had to be taken to the hospital. at the time the school went into safe mode while police investigated. officers also arrested a ninth gr crime. >> sarah: happening today, the case against rachelle bond heads back to court. bond is the mother of toddler bella bond. no word yet if bond will attend the hearing. prosecutors say bond's boyfriend michael mccarthy killed the little girl. rachelle bond and mccarthy are accused of getting rid of bella's body, which was found on deer island back in 2015. >> christa: still ahead for artist who is offering up free tattoos of donald trump. >> sarah: plus after months at sea, sailors aboard the u.s.s. new hampshire are back home this morning. why the home coming was even sweeter for one couple. >> christa: and the celtics trying, trying to rebound after losing back-to-back games. where the c's were able to cast a spell on the wizards, were they or were they not? power. >> christa: after battling each other on the campaign trail, the president has pledged full cooperation to help out with the smooth transition. let's go to 7's nancy chen with more on the meeting that's set for today, nancy. >> sarah: christa and sarah, president obama and president trump will meet in the oval office. after leaving washington, trump will return to now,, where he will meet with senior members of his transition staff. the focus at the meeting at trump tower will then be filling cabinet posts. officials say transition meetings will take place in new york and washington, leading up to the inauguration in january. so this transition process is briefing wednesday afternoon. and while it promises to be a very busy day for the president-elect, the future first hospital after a possible case of a dangerous disease. 7's kris anderson joins us with more on the steps the hospital is taken to protect itself. >> kris: a lot of people on edge at a maine medical center after a possible case of the preon disease was reported. preons are rare proteins that cause neurodegenerative diseases like mad cow. the hospital has postponed equipment. preon disease usually progresses rapidly and is always fatal. because this is such a rare case, it's still been unconfirmed. that is the latest live in the newsroom, kris anderson, 7news "today in new england." >> sarah: the owner of the framingham pharmacy blamed for the 2012 meningitis outbreak has been sentenced to a year of probation for financial crimes. carla conigliaro was sentenced on wednesday. her husband has already been sentenced to two years of probation. she was the majority o center. the company was accused of shipping tainted drugs, killing hundreds in the u.s. >> christa: also this morning, a state representative from hooksett, new hampshire, is facing some charges. police arresting him on a bench warrant after he was apparently spotted campaigning at a polling station on tuesday. the 85-year-old was wanted for failing to appear in court last month. officers spoke to him tuesday and he agreed to turn himself inch despite the arrest he was will spend 120 days behind bars after being convicted of drunk driving charges, and that was in connection with a deadly crash according to the "globe." john basler was sentenced wednesday. the 28-year-old was apparently driving home when he crashed his car, killing a 64-year-old carver woman and her 22-year-old daughter. basler was acquitted of motor vehicle homicide and manslaughter charges. >> sarah: new details about an alleged serial killer in south carolina. police say the two bodies found on the man's spartanburg were a married couple. and investigators believe the husband and wife had been buried there for more than a year. they say todd kohlhepp shot and killed them. on wednesday investigators removed the shipping container where authorities found the woman chained and screaming for help last week. police also found her boyfriend's body on the property. kohlhepp is linked to five other deaths. he's being held without bail. will there are new details york. officials say a hot lightbulb fell on the card word, sparking the flames yesterday morning. no one was hurt. schools in the area will be closed this morning so crews can inspect the building to make sure the air quality is safe. >> christa: new this morning, brad pitt getting a break in his divorce with angelina jolie. the investigation enter child abuse allegations has now been closed. those accusations came after jolie claimed that pitt abused their son maddux during dispute on board a private plane. federal investigators were called in because of where the incident allegedly took place. earlier this week jolie was granted sole custody of the couple's six children. ism prince harry's new girlfriend meagan markel is asking for some time off from filming her show "suits." according to page six, the actress told her bosses she needed to skip florida mayor chasing after two suspects who robbed her. police say she ran after the men after they threatened her with a bb gun, stole her purse and threw her to the ground. officers were able to the tag on the car. >> christa: and right now police are s searching for the other suspects. >> sarah: a california woman is facing charges over some homemade recipes. police say she and several other christa: a new study says sugar-sweetened beverages are linked to type 2 diabetes. researchers at tufts university suggest that people who regularly consume the drinks had developing prediabetes. they did not find a link with diet sodas, however. if you're addicted to your smartphone, you may not be getting enough good sleep. in a new study, researchers installed an app on the cell phones of 600 adults to report how often they used the device. those who used their phones the most reported a lower quantity and quality of sleep. those who used their phones before bed had even worse trouble with through, and as this does push through, we're looking at some very breezy conditions. so wind gusts around 30, even 35mph. and you can see, cooler, yep, we're talking about cooler air pushing in behind this front. and that's going to cause tomorrow afternoon temperatures to actually fall mid-40s. so a closer look at our temperature profile here over the next couple days. today pretty seasonable. temperatures near 5052 degrees in boston. 53 crease in bedford. fitchburg in the low 50s. some of us potentially struggling to hit 50 degrees. i do think most of us will reach it in the low 50s. so pretty close to average highs. by tomorrow our highs look to be closer to the noon hour if not before. mid-50s for most of us. some of us a little cooler than that. but watch what happens as we off pretty significantly. so 43 degrees in worcester. even by 4:00 tomorrow afternoon, so you're going the want to bring a warmer coat to work even if temperatures are pretty mild by the time you head to work tomorrow morning, because by 5:00, temperatures could be close to 40 degrees. tomorrow night, temperatures in the mid-30s and that's going to continue to drop off for us. some cooler weather headed our way as we wrap up your work week and some cool weather into saturday, as well. take a look at wind gusts as we head into friday. so friday afternoon, some wind gusts i think are going the so you add in those dropping temperatures as well as these breezy conditions and it will feel cold as you head home from work tomorrow. saturday will be pretty breezy, as well. sustained taking to the streets to protest donald trump's election. in los angeles, protesters burned a sculpture of trump's head. they also blocked one of the city's busiest highways where they lit fires and threw big yellow were reals on to the highway. police say that 13 people and president obama meantime welcomes the president-elect to the white house later on this morning. the two set to meet in the oval office to talk about the transition period. on wednesday both men said they would work together to bring together this deeply divided nation. and we just mentioned the protest nationwide here in boston. thousands of people took to the streets to protest trump's victory, as well. they held a rally outside the statehouse and marched right down beacon street. several roadways and streets closed off during that protest, but police say it was peaceful >> kris: now people in massachusetts overwhelmingly voted for hillary clinton, so many are wondering what a trump presidency means for our state and for our entire country. 7's nicole oliverio live in boston with more on reaction here locally. nicole? >> nicole: well, kris, hillary clinton got more than 60% of the vote here in massachusetts. many of the voters we spoke with say they believe the polls and were stunned to see trump win tuesday night. all eyes election. >> i was watching with my friends. it went one state after another for trump. >> nicole: now for many people in boston, the final results are sinking in. >> we were all going to go into work and nobody wanted to talk about it. >> nicole: trump's win a surprise even to the pollsters. the next day the pats' q.b. tom brady was asked about his thoughts on the election. >> i talked to my wife. she said i can't talk about politics anymore. so i think that's a good decision made for our family. >> nicole: a proud trump >> he's not perfect, i'm in the saying that, he has lots of flaws, but we this need a shake-up here. >> nicole: but several people admitted they fear for our future. >> it's disappointing to have a character make such egregious remarks about so many different kinds of people so consistently be the face of our nation. >> i also believe that the hampshire. this morning we know that governor maggie hassan has won that coveted senate seat. she beat incumbent kelly ayotte by less than 1,000 votes. it was so close that officials took some extra time before declaring an official winner. hospital after a possible case of a dangerous disease. let's wring in 7's sarah french with more on the steps this hospital is taking now. >> sarah: the c.d.c. in maine is investigating a patient at the state's largest hospital who may have a rare and deadly disease. it's called prion disease. prions are rare proteins that cause neurodegenerative diseases like mad cow disease. maine medical center has proposed some surgical procedures to sterilize equip an rather to postpone them. the c.d.c. says preon disease usually progress rapidly and are turning details about a salem police officer who is accused of raping an inmate. officers brian butler faced a judge yesterday. prosecutors say that cameras captured officer butler sexually assaulting forecast. so still leaning on the sunny side of things. by tomorrow a cold front pulls through. second cold front of the week for us here, and this one is going to do some damage when it comes to our temperatures here. temperatures are going to drop pretty significantly as we head into tomorrow afternoon. so while temperatures will peak in the mid-50s tomorrow, we actually will see temperatures drop through this afternoon. into the mid to 40s. on top of, that it's going to be very breezy for us. some wind gusts up to even 35mph. a closer look at the temperature change. today highs will be protests against donald trump's election taking place across this country from boston to los angeles and cities all in between demonstrators voicing their frustration. so all this taking place as president-elect trump is headed to the white house this morning to meet with president obama. >> kris: the two we good evening to work on the transition of power from the dan hausle live in new york city with more on today's big meeting. dan, good morning. >> dan: good morning, kris. some might think president obama should share some of the feelings of those protesters, but he proved quickly to invite donald trump down to the white house, saying it's important to have a smooth transition of power. and it turns out donald trump not the only high-profile guest expected at the white house today. some of those other guests aren't big fans of trump. trump towers and across the country offer stark evidence of the bitter divide left behind in the wake of one of the harshest presidential campaigns in recent memory. president obama has echoed donald trump's call for reconciliation. >> we're not democrats first. we're not republicans first. we are americans first. we're patriots first. we all want what's best for this country. and that's what i heard when i spoke to him directly. and i was heartened by that. that's what the country needs. dan dan the president spoke to president-elect trump after the speech. he invited trump to the white house to make sure there is a successful transition of power. >> it is no secret that the president-elect and i have some pretty significant differences, but remember eight president bush and i had some pretty significant differences, but president bush's team could not have been more professional or more gracious in making sure we had a smooth transition so that we could hit the ground running. >> dan: trump's transition team posted "working together we'll begin the task of rebilling our nation and renew ing the american dream. governor." sources say trump was too superstitious to talk about cabinet choices before he won. rudy giuliani, newt gingrich and reince priebus. a source cautions positions could change after trump has his say. while many are still protesting the man at the top of the ticket, trump's campaign manager is asking critics to give trump the same chance they once gave previous presidents. >> i hope some people w tamp it down, lay down the verbal firearm, tamp it down and give this guy a chance. >> dan: also scheduled to visit the white house, cleveland cavaliers, lebron james a high-from file supporter of hillary clinton. james and some of the other players have been openly questioning whether they would go to the white house if they repeated as champs and whether they would go to a donald trump white house. also scheduled today, ohio republican refused to endorse donald trump after a bitter primary fight. we're live in new york city, dan hausle, 7news "today nancy: chris, president-elect trump received his first official briefing on wednesday. that exchange of information is expected to continue until his inauguration in january. the big topic of the briefing, the transition according to reports, that transition will be carried out in new york where senior staff will meet with trump regularly and in large office in d.c., as well. top-level briefings, they will be conducted at trump tower. now, at this stage, two of trump's lead transition advisers, they are new jersey governor chris christie as well as alabama senator jeff sessions. and president obama will also have control over those briefings. he'll be able to weigh in and also authorize what's disclosed. >> kris: when the president-elect meets with president obama, we'll of election. let's go to sarah with more. >> sarah: thanks, christa. anti-trump protesters taking to the streets all over the country overnight. in two cities demonstrators burned trump statues. in los angeles, hundreds of protesters blocked one of the city's bidsest freeway. police say at least 13 have been arrested. they smashed win des, lit fires, threw yellow barrels on to the freeway. >> not my president! not my president! not my president! not my president! >> sarah: in new york city, demonstrators chanted, as you can hear, "not my president," and a group outside trump tower even burned an american flag in the street. in san francisco, hundreds others are calling for the state to secede from the united states. cal exit, similar to "brexit," began trending online overnight. several groups are protesting outside the state's capital calling for the state to vote on the cal exit issue. in the newsroom, i'm sarah french, 7news "today in new england." >> christa: sarah, thank you. here in boston police say close to 5,000 people also marched in protest. let's go to 7's jennifer eagan. jen, this remains peaceful, we understand. >> jfe police say protests here were peaceful. they drew thousands of people here chanting, "not my president" in front of the statehouse. the protesters then marched down on to boston common. police estimate the crowd grew to more than 4,000 people at one point. some who were out here last night said they didn't necessarily back clinton. they were supporters of bernie sanders. the protesters said they're taking a stand against donald trump. >> i personally do not agree with the outcome of the election, and i want to make country stays united. >> he's not going to be my president. ly never address him as such. >> jennifer: boston police did
