25 news. >> more breaking news tonight. local teacher under arrest, acould you could you a --accused of sending naked pictures to a student. that teacher works in southbridge. this is not the first time this teacher has done this. fox 25's crystal haynes has been, woulding this story all day and -- working this story all day and working her sources. >> the reporter: bob and elizabeth, i can tell you that this tip came in to me early, or rather late yesterday, but we've been working it since early this morning. i can only tell you that investigators say that 22-year-old joseph zungia-santos turned himself in and he's in the lockup just behind me here at southbridge police department and it's like you said, first time this happened. a shocking revelation. >> i think it's horrible. >> a 17-year-old student at southbridge middle high school telling police, nine grade zungia sent naked pictures of himself to him over facebook messenger and more than once. >> one was sent last year, in october, 2014, and then another set of images were sent in august of 2015. >> police were notified this week that 22-year-old zungia turned himself in this afternoon, charged with dissemination of obscene material to a minor. >> they've known each other for two years. the student admitted that they met at a church function in the town of webster and then he's been with this particular teacher for this whole year. >> in a statement, southbridge schools tell fox 25 news, the school department is extremely alarmed by these charges and have taken immediate steps to ensure the safety of our students. is no longer hand employee with the district. southbridge administrators remaining tight lipped about the employment history of this teacher. i pulled zungia's linked in page where he posted not only being a teacher at southbridge, but director of the early education program at worcester state university. investigators say he was a substitute in southbridge last year and was a full-time teacher this year. parents who received the notification today are stunned. >> i prefer to take my daughter out of this school. this is not a safe environment for my daughter. >> now, i did do a search of worcester state university's web site and there was no mention of zungia after i put his name into the search engine there, but we'll continue to dig into his background. i can tell you that he's due to be arraigned in dudley district court tomorrow morning. and there is a special community meeting scheduled for next week for parents to ask questions about this case. reporting in southbridge, crystal haynes, fox 25 news. >> >> and we continue to follow breaking news following a former b.u. assistant hockey coach. robert richardson is accused of raping a 13-year-old on a youth team that he coached back in 1991. according to new information from the suffolk county d.a.'s office, the alleged victim only recently told investigators about the alleged abuse. these attacks allegedly happened in richardson's dorchester home. richardson will be arraigned in suffolk superior court on thursday. this video is from 2005, and that's when richardson was found not guilty in a separate child rape accusation. that attack allegedly happened at a summer camp. >> >> elizabeth: a cool evening here in the city of boston. as people head home tonight and tonight, chief so there will be towns that get in to the 30's. i don't expect frost tonight, but frosty weather in the final stop this time around is going to be on the north shore and your temperatures under clearing skies tonight, again, dropping into the low 40's, i expect it to stay in the 40's at least at the coastline, but going inland in essex county and into northern portions of middle sex counties, you may see towns that make it into the upper 30's, even colder air is on the way and a timeline on the showers we're talking about. >> new at 6:00 p.m., police in newton say a brookline firefighter was driving drunk when he crashed into a another drive and then left the scene. the crash happened early saturday morning at the intersection in brookline. >> elizabeth: the thing is, this is actually the second brookline firefighter who has been arrested in just a week. fox 25's kerry kavanaugh is litch in newton, where police say they arrested this man walking away from his banged up s.u.v., kerry. >> the reporter: he appeared in court this week, earlier for all the charges stemming from this crash. the crash happened in brookline, but they say he fled all of the way here to newton. the bummer of an s.u.v. sits along la grange street in brookline. firefighter jeremy joseph was behind the wheel. according to court records, after the collision, joseph got out and surveyed the damage, then they say he got back into his pickup truck and drove off and drove more than two miles away. witnesses say they saw a black truck pull in to this bank parking lot, back into a spot, park, and then the driver got out and started walking. >>. the guy parked the car perfectly and just walked away, as if nothing was wrong. >> one of those witnesses who lives near the bank in newton told us over the phone, she could hear the driver coming first. >> i heard almost like it was a muffler i heard a dragging sound and the front end was all smashed up and the front driver's side was gone. >> police say the driver was riding on a rim. they later arrested him as he walked. police say the person in the other car was extricated with the jaws of life but was expected to be ok. we attempted to speak with mr. joseph today. he didn't want to comment. the brookline fire chief emailed fox 25 a statement saying that this firefighter is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. live in newton, kerry kavanaugh, fox 25 news. >> elizabeth: so this is the second arrest of a brookline firefighter in just the last few days. joseph ward was released on personal recognizance and is now on administrative leave from the fire department. prosecutors say he attacked a man at anna's taco shop on sunday night for allegedly taking too long to order his food. >> developing news in plymouth tonight where a pedestrian was hit hit and killed by a car. police tell us an elderly woman was trying to parallel park on water street when she knocked down a 62-year-old man from out-of-state. the victim was taken by helicopter to a boston hospital, where he later died. the crash under> /v investigation. developing news out of westin, where police are investigating a shooting at a gun range. sky fox over the westin shooters club on sibley road. police tell us they received a 911 call that a woman accidentally shot herself in the arm. an ambulance took that woman to newton wesley hospital and she is expected to recover. >> elizabeth: developing news now. the mother of a 5-year-old worcester boy is facing abuse charges. police say the 22-year-old woman, her son was limping and had noticeable bruising with he arrived at school yesterday morning. the school alerted police. the boy was taken to the she now faces charges of permitting substantial injury to a child and reckless endangerment. she was arraigned this morning and leased on $1,000 bail. the man accused of murdering a beloved teacher colleen ritzer stood behind a wall today while a court clinician raised questions about whether phillip chisholm is mentally nit to stand trial. she painted a picture of a troubled and suicidal teenager who couldn't bear the thought of going to court. goulston, fox 25 news. >> still no arrests in the drive-by shooting of a car on 495 in wrentham, a story fox 25 brought you as braking news all morning long. this afternoon, state police revealed that they have processed the car and are are currently looking at ballistic evidence. two men were shot at just before 11:00 p.m. last night. both are ok. they told state police that they did not get a good look at the other car. a violent head-on crash in route 114 in middleton. sky fox was over the scene this morning after a box car collided with a car. the truck rolled over after the impact. one of the victims was flown to a boston hospital. >> elizabeth: another loss for parishioners trying to keep their sciate church from closing for good. a state appeals court upheld a judge's order to evict the parish necessary from parishioners have been holding an 11 year around the clock vigil at the church. the court ruled that the parishioners are trespassing. >> kevin: it will be totally this. this is not a heavy rain event, but there will be showers around scattered about and that will continue right through the morning drive until the end of the morning drive in southern new hampshire, you'll have that threat of showers. most of us won't get wet in massachusetts, especially when you go inside 495 and southeast. that's the way it's looking right now. we'll keep an eye on that front and how it's progressing right into friday and saturday. friday afternoon, we'll have a few showers still around, that's because of that cool air coming in, so reinforcing shot of cool air, try with the cold front and then again saturday with the disturbance coming on buy. of your weekend. highs tomorrow, 59 in dennis. 61 sandwich and marshfield getting up to 62 degrees. just to the south of boston, quincy at 63. brockton also at 63 degrees tomorrow afternoon. and off to the north and west, winchendon at 58. worcester, 59 and brattleboro, vermont at 61 degrees tomorrow afternoon as well with plenty of sunshine. seven day forecast. notice the changes that are coming. rainshowers on friday and by saturday into sunday, that's when the cool air really starts to settle in. so by sunday and in to monday, we're looking at a big difference in temperatures, in the mornings anyway. even in the afternoon on sunday, only getting in to the upper 40's most towns. 50's right along the coastline and low 50's only at that. certainly below average, much of your weekend. coldest air we've seen since april the way it looks right now with frost and freeze likely and snow in the mountains. looking at the european computer model, puts futurecast to use. some showers are coming on in and really, through the upcoming weekend, it looked like that we would have snow settling in on the northern ranges, i'll set that graphic up better for you coming up. but what we're dealing with is just a frosting of snow. thinking about that in october, in the mountains of new england, that's someplace that we'll have to watch very closely. but notice the low temperatures. 32 sunday, so frosty start to be sure, some places will be freezing or solid freeze. monday is the better chance for that, with the clear skies and starting out only in the upper 40's for temperatures. won't have nine armed robberies to fall to get into the 20's for lows coming up on monday morning. it will be likely down to freezing, even in the immediate boston area. and along the shoreline on the south coast as well. so something that we'll be tracking in the days ahead, the cold temperatures and showers no one was hurt. the fire is under control, but still families are not allowed to go back into their homes. but this here is a live look at the scene right now. all of this is happening actually right behind the backhoe. it's hard to see where we are. that's where that explosion happened. let me take you over to sky fox video. this was all happening just about two hours ago. this was happening over on south and phillip street. you can see debris flying everywhere. so as you mentioned, this happened right in front of phillips street and this is where some girls were getting ready for practice here at medfield high school. it all happened the explosion, they saw it and were forced to go back inside. let me show you video taken by a neighbor. she camp out of her house, took the video, the flames were just about 30 feet high. so right now at this hours we could tell you that there's some families that are not allowed to go back into their homes, so at hurt. i want to show you one thing. overhead wires directly above that explosion over there, that's where crews are worried about right now. so for about five hours or so, we're being told that families may not be allowed to go in. we student. joseph zungia turned himself in. a 17-year-old student told police the ninth great english language teacher sent naked pictures of himself over facebook medeiros jerrickson at least twice. school officials are alarmed by the charges hand that person is no longer an employee. south boston. a beloved grandmother, murdered in her hone home. the d.a. says the killer stole winning lottery tickets to feed his heroin addiction. in court today, that killer was family spoke out. >> he does not belong in society. he is far too dangerous to everyone. >> strong words in suffolk superior court as 30-year-old timothy koska is sentenced to live and no parole of south boston mother around grandmother, barbara coyne she was found beaten to death and her throat slashed, killed over $100 worth of of boston. but for the past half-hour, we've been admiring an absolutely beautiful sunset over the city, which is about to be eclipsed by the nighttime here kevin and we're looking forward to a little farther north and west you go. worcester area, 41 degrees under clear skies by morning, but there will be towns that get in to the upper 30's especially north and west of worcester. martha's vineyard, clouds hanging around. these showers haven't come to fruition, we'll take those out of the forecast but the clouds will be hanging around and clearing by early morning and 407 degrees, so you're waking up to sunshine and have it right through lunchtime tomorrow afternoon. it's what happens after that rainshowers and cold air arrive. >> remembering bella, a group of south shore mothers make it surveillance pictures yesterday at 5:00 p.m. the tonight police announced the capture of the suspect identified as say he used a gun to rob the irving mainway convenience store in concord monday night. other officers recognized him from the surveillance pictures. he was arrested for armed robbery. police are working to identify the suspects caught on camera in this car break in, this happened on jefferson avenue in everett, back in late july. you can see two men approach, open the deers, search around for any valuables, and then walk off. if you recognize either of these suspects, please contact everett police. natick police looking for the man behind this jewelry heist, they say he walked into the shop and asked for that catalog. when the clerk left the sales floor, he removed seven bracelets, worth more than $2,500. if you recognize him, you can give an anonymous tip to natick police. >> >> elizabeth: held without bail for a 23-year-old crime. today the man accused of murdering a tufts university graduate in 1992 stood in court and said he's not guilty. fox 25's kerry kavanaugh was there and spoke with the defense attorney about his concerns with the d.n.a. evidence. >> more than two decades after a man accused of her murder walked into a suffolk county courtroom in handcuffs. in 1992, leona bruce was 21 years old a recent graduate of tufts university. that year, she was the only african-american woman to western a degree in engineering. investigators say two months after receiving the degrees, her roommate found her dead in her south boston apartment. >> lying face down on her bed with her hands tied tightly behind her back with telephone cord. the victim was nude from the waist down. >> police never identified a suspect in this case until this year. >> the massachusetts state police crime laboratory notified the boston police department of what's known as a code hit linking the defendant to the unknown male d.n.a. profile recovered from of the body of lena bruceism e. in court wednesday, the prosecutor said the defendant, james witkowski was serving time for an unrelated assault. he submitted a d.n.a. sample after he was convicted last summer. the prosecutor said witkowski's criminal record dates back to 1988 and includes convictions for larceny, breaking battery. >> when shown a photograph of the victim, defendant stated he did not recognize her and had no memory of any sexual or other contact with her. >> witkowski's attorney says he's still examining the case but noted d.n.a. evidence is not 100% infallible. >> things can go wrong. other than the actual sample comparison, again, there's deterioration of samples, decay, improper handling and procedure, flatout mistakes. >> the magistrate here today says that d.n.a. evidence would to the massachusetts pending home sales were up 36% in september. more than 5700 homes were placed under agreement with median price of just over $340,000. the association's market confidence index swinging on through. another piece of energy in atmosphere that will bring cool air, to make sure we stay cold on sunday and monday. sunday will be the coolest day we've seen in quite some time. 49
