suspect left that the violence happened. we'll have a live report on this investigation tonight at 6:00 p.m. >> the reporter: we talked last night how it would be cooler today, but still above average. boston at 60 today, still four degrees above the average high temperature for the date, but at the coast, it was decidedly cooler, that sea breeze kicking in, it was 66 not too far to the west and north in bedford. 65 in worcester. look at keene, new hampshire, a surprising 70-degree reading out there today. yeah, the upper 60's, were expected, certainly to the west of boston and cooler at the coast. this evening, we're seeing it as well. billions at 54 degrees, -- boston, 54 degrees and you clear skies. it's going to be a mild november night for you in boston. in worcester, still holding on to 60 degrees. how about that, above the average high temperature for the date. clear skies right now, allowing your temperature to drop down into the 50's overnight. going down to 50 degrees first thing in the morning and north and west in fitchburg and lawrence, temperatures in the 50's. your temperature will drop into the upper 40's tonight, so 40's to around 50 degrees will be the rule for low temperatures tonight. i'm not expecting any 30's, it's going to be that mild out there. right now it is clear, but here's what i'm watching. clouds and showers and watch how they're creeping up to the mid-atlantic state and the del par have a, which is right in here where washington, d.c. is and delaware and maryland. you're going to see clouds increase during the day tomorrow. also see some patches of fog develop overnight, so first thing in the morning, fog and clouds. by there. not sure there will be any showers around here yet, first thing in the morning, but it's not impossible you can't see a sprinkle pop up during the day. during the middle part of the day, dry with clouds, but again a random sprinkle. i don't think many of those will make it on in here. the higher risk will come friday as the clouds increase tomorrow night into early friday morning. you see some more green showing up in here. so high temperatures tomorrow, despite the increase in clouds will be milder. getting up into the 60's to around 70 degrees, bridgewater, 71. hyannis, 65. province town, 64. has to do with the wind shift going back around to the west. pushing mild air into boston, 71 degrees, norwood at 73 degrees. all of these too low to be friday the record highs happen to be lower. so we have a better shot of hitting those records on friday and that's the day i've been targeting all week for those. so some showers come in during friday morning, all ahead of the cold front pushing our way, but random showers during the day on friday, and in fact by the afternoon, some breaks of sun come out. more sun you get, the warmer you're going to be of course, but in this case, temperatures could push any to the mid and upper 70's if you get enough sunshine. cold front during the evening. watch how the showers want to fizzle out before they get to boston and behind the front, we start to clear things out and will turn cooler for the weekend. you'll satisfy that in the seven-day forecast with the weekend in view. 73 friday, would be a tied record for boston. that's what i'm forecasting right now. the record set in 1959 and on sunday, the patriots are on fox 25 news. 53 degrees for a high temperature on sunday, but i'm expecting the kickoff to be cooler. temperature of about 48 degrees at 1:00 p.m. with a northwesterly breeze between 5 and 10, there could be higher gusts that could impact the game a little bit. we'll take a closer look at the timeline for the showers just ahead. >> close call for one driver, take a look at this. we'll tell you what led, wow, to this highway scare. >> elizabeth: also ahead, it's a new way to save for your retirement and millions of americans are eligible. how it works and why the government guarantees itself. kerry, you brought some of6x viewer questions straight to the mbta. >> the reporter: better communication, better equipment, those are keys to the commuter rails approach to this upcoming winter, but the viewers we heard from on social media are skeptical and they wanted details on the plan. commuter rail tracks were used as conveyor belts wednesday to display the mbta's new gear to battle the winter. they say this is the result of tough lessons learned. >> there's not a day that goes by that we don't think about snow. >> the reporter: for the first time of, the mbta set aside
