into a safety harbor home. abc action news anchor lindsay logue arrived at the scene 45 minutes ago. you just spoke to the home's owner. >> reporter: the homeowner, the woman who lives here told me the impact was so loud she thought someone was breaking into the house. look at the damage behind me. the white picket fence is in pieces on the ground. the bottom half of the chimney is cut off. the side of the house is destroyed and that window where you see the black trash bag, the glass from that, the impact shattered that glass all the way into the bedroom. deputies tell me this happened they say a driver took a turn on mlk and 5th way too fast the house. the damage here is a lot more than what you can see. the car hit the electrical box cutting off the power. deputies on scene said the car was stolen from clearwater and right now the driver and two other people are on the run. >> they immediately had canine units, helicopters, everything out here looking for them, unfortunately didn't find them. but you're kind of, i don't know, these situations are crazy, where do you even start? >> reporter: danielle does have family and friends here as well as homeowners insurance so she will get some help for a little bit. that vehicle was towed less than an hour ago and detectives will be dusting it for fingerprints. they will also be looking for any evidence in that vehicle that girl just 8 years old recently came forward to say andrew kim also abused her. pinellas county deputies arrested kim last week charging him with inappropriately touching two young girls at os tai kwon do in seminole. os said it fired him over the summer before the accusations even came to light. you may notice new games the next time you head to the hard rock casino. craps and roulette are a step closer to making their debut at casinos like the one in tampa. house lawmakers voted to move forward, a $3 billion deal between the state and seminole indian tribe. the compact would also let the tribe operate exclusively, and offer card games like black jack. imagine moving to a specific neighborhood to send your kids to a certain school. now some hillsborough county their children enrolled at one local school and the battle has them, as you can imagine pretty heated. >> there is a proposal to move students at stowers elementary school to three other schools because that school is over capacity. the move could impact hundreds of kids in the fishhawk area. an official boundary change proposal could go before the school board in march. if the changes are passed they would not go into effect until the 2017/2018 school year. 6:06. consumer alert. daimler plans to raleigh 841,000 vehicles here in the u.s. to replace potentially defective airbag inflators made by the takata corporation. that recall involves 705,000 2005 to 2014 and 136,000 sprinter and freightliner vans from 2007 to 2014 model years. this is the latest expansion of the takata recall. as ordered by the of the popular hoverboards caught fire in tennessee. look at the damage it did to the house there. it almost killed two teens. that hoverboard caught fire on the first floor of this house last month and trapped the teens upstairs. to them from outside, says his 16-year-old daughter broke a second story window and had to jump out to safety. >> was kicking the doors and i thought i'm going to lose two of my four children today. i was just begging her, yelling, please jump baby, please jump. she jumped out the window without hesitation. i can't tell you how brave that was. >> after his daughter jump out brian fox helped his teenaged son climb out with a ladder. firefighters believe the hoverboard's lithium battery started the fire. they say friends. family also bought one and it also caught fire but in that case only the hoverboard was damaged. at 6:11. check out this video. this is the thatched roof of destin, up in the panhandle going up in flames. the popular beachside restaurant's roof caught fire around 6:30 last night. the flames then spread throughout the upper floor but firefighters got there quickly, contained the flames in time so the lower floor suffered only minor and jaw-dropping path of terror cut across south florida. the alarming excuse this guy gave for attacking an elderly 6:15. wednesday morning. right now four olympic caliber sailors are recovering from a heart pounding rescue after their sailboats capsized in the gulf. gale force winds and high waves threw the sailors in the water off clearwater beach. they were racing in a regatta trying to qualify for this summer's olympic games. fortunately these were skilled sailors, we're told are used to the rough conditions on the water and the coast guard was already out there monitoring the race so no murder. we're about to show you surveillance video of the it disturbing. lauder hill police say this is joe von walker, randomly attacking 81-year-old douglas brochet at a gas station with a pipe. douglas' wife tries to break it up, he took such a severe beating he needed 18 stitches and his eyes were nearly swollen shut. >> he came towards me and his hand was behind his back, i didn't know if he had anything in his hand and he just struck >> when you see your husband being attacked the only thing you think about doing is that. >> unbelievable. walker also accused of a carjacking in deerfield beach and another attack at a swap shop where he grabbed a samurai sword and started swinging it at a clerk. walker later told police he just watched the movie "poltergeist" and wanted to kill evil. we don't know yet if any drugs were involved. police in london are thanking the person that helped them catch a suspected drug dealer. a good samaritan tripped the suspect who was running from police. here's a look at what happened. police posted this video on their twitter account thanking the person who helped them. they were on patrol last weekend when they tried to stop a drug deal but the suspect took off. police arrested a 17-year-old, they say he was not hurt when he fell to the ground. the send suspect got away. -- the second suspect got away. ivan, it's going to be a little glass breaking, then smoke. >> at 6:30 -- deputies on the hunt for people responsible for this damage, jolting a safety pinellas county deputies telling us three people were inside that stolen car when it slammed into the side of that woman's house early this morning. three people in the car ditching it, taking off. luckily the woman asleep in the house wasn't injured. abc action news anchor sustained winds now 10 yesterday morning we were talking about sustained winds 20 to 25. gusts in the 30s. that continues through the afternoon. day planner today, plenty of clouds in the morning, with democracy 2016 -- donald trump is waking up with his first major win under his belt. a resounding victory in the new hampshire primary. vermont senator bernie sanders as expected also came out on top thanks to record voter turnout, despite the bad weather up north. the votes were tallied overnight and as you can see it was not even close. donald trump won more than double the number of votes than any other candidate. john kasich and ted cruz jeb bush was behind cruz. on the democratic side bernie sanders took more than half the vote, hillary clinton conceded the race 30 minutes before it was called. before heading to south carolina the next state to go to the polls, check how sanders celebrated his victory. he shot hoops with some new hampshire children and his family. a disappointing showing in new hampshire for new jersey governor chris christie. has him re-assessing what comes next for him. even though he had already booked a plane ticket for south carolina he now says he's heading back home to new jersey to regroup. 6:33. crime alert from sarasota county. a few extra seconds in the parking lot before you work -- before work that is could keep you from becoming a victim of a car break-in. sarasota police tell us between monday and tuesday morning crooks broke into 40 cars in sarasota county. three downtown parking lots were hit, all blocks from each other. four people have been charged matthew gunn and three juveniles. officers suspect the victims were easy pickings because most of the car break-ins this year happened because the vehicles were unlocked. our adam winer will be talking to officers today about what else you can do to protect yourself. once he feels that report we'll post it -- files that report we'll post it on our app. a beloved pet dead mauled to death at a boarding facility they thought was safe. it turns out that business should not have been open in the first place. abc action news reporter rodney dunigan joins us live now from bradenton with more on the story. exactly what happened here? >> reporter: this family had a small terrier and were assured the dog wouldn't be housed with other bigger dogs. that didn't happen, the dog was mauled to death. here's the major issue, this is a res decks area and this was -- a residential area and this is the home where it happened. the code enforcement county says this area is not zoned for this business so this place should have never been open. a 4-year-old terrier was put in argentino, a large dog that can reach up to 100 pounds and typically this dog is used for big game hunting. the larger dog attacked the smaller dog. the owner says the attack was tragic but it's a mistake and animals are unpredictable. the family wants answers and the county plans to be out here today to make sure this business is shut down. >> what we're trying to do is basically just warn other people that this is a situation that you really have to look into and there's not many resources of reliability out there to be able to do that. >> reporter: the owner of the business actually ran it through this web site, dogvacay.com, based from california. we checked with them last night, they say the account for this business has been deactivated. again the county code enforcement plans to be out here later this morning to ensure this place is shut down and also tell us that the owner popeye's, louisiana kitchen known for its fried chicken temporarily shut down a few days ago after live roaches were found near food being prepared. our i-team found the commercial on commercial way in spring hill closed overnight on february 2nd after the state saw over 40 live roaches on the front counter and near the chicken breading table. not to mention dead ones at the drivethrough window. delays there. >> reporter: that's what it is but now hillsborough county fire has arrived and they've taken up one lane. causing people to move over a little. that just happened a couple of minutes ago. fletcher through fowler all the way to this point. this is about a half-mile north of the exit for i-4. so normally a lot of people get in that right-hand lane, that could be what happened with this accident but there's not very much damage, a couple of vehicles, fhp and fire unit. i suspect he'll be leaving soon. if you're coming along i-75 from bruce b downs to i-4 expect a little delay as may pose to children. the researchers say the mosquito-borne illness may cause babies to be born with eye abnormalities that threaten their vision. >> experts say all of the children they studied in brazil were born with abnormally small heads that and likely most will go blind. more cases are cropping up across the country and around the world though the number in florida is still at 16. still though the cdc is taking new precautions to catch zika virus early. sending nearly 1,000 extra test kits to florida. the kits would help the state figure out if any person who has traveled recently has that virus. >> the zika virus perhaps most intense in brazil, also the site of the 2016 summer olympic games. and goalkeeper hope solo may opt out of competing. she and the rest of the soccer team were briefed on the crisis last night. in an interview with "sports illustrated" she said if the olympics were today she would not go. because she wants to have a child one day and is concerned about warnings not to travel to countries where zika is presents. in austin, texas a police officer is under investigation after he shot and killed a naked and unarmed 17-year-old boy. both that teen, david joseph and officer jeffrey freeman are african-american. police say officer freeman saw the teen in the street without clothes on and told him to stop but said joseph charged him. that is when freeman shot and killed him. joseph's parents say they are devastated. this morning the u.s. department of justice is angry at the city of ferguson, missouri, last night the city council voted to accept justice department recommendations to reform its police and court systems but with conditions including limiting the cost to ferguson. justice officials call the conditions unacceptable and say to make sure the city complies with the constitution. you may remember ferguson endured weeks of riots two years ago after police shot and killed an unarmed man. right now a former catholic priest is accused of killing a second grade teacher in 1960. 81-year-old john fite was arrested in arizona yesterday. investigators say he was the last person to see irene garza alive when she attended a confession in a church in south texas. garza was 25 years old. he denies killing her but investigators say he told another former priest a different story. authorities are working to extradite him now to texas. a florida man's so-called prank still going nuts on facebook. >> we've showed you the pictures of a 3 1/2 foot gator tossed through the drivethrough window at a south florida wendy's. the man now says he's sorry. joshua james is out of jail but a judge ordered him to stay away from every wendy's restaurant. a friend that worked at the restaurant and says he will never do anything like deputies tell me the driver of that stolen vehicle took a turn at mlk and fifth way too fast, blew up the curb, slammed into a street sign and that street sign ended up crashing through the living room window here. house, a white picket fence, this is the pile of rubble that is left from this crash. the two people inside, the homeowner and boyfriend say it sounded like at the time someone was breaking into her house. they ran outside to see what was going on, that is when they saw the car but never saw the driver or the passengers. neighbors say they saw three people running down the
