second half marathon. then she had a stroke. she was 33 years old. she was healthy and had no pre-existing conditions when she woke up in the icu, she was completely paralyzed on her right side and after a long bat woman -- battle, kristin met another woman who had a life changing event. ruby hope went to her doctor when she felt something was wrong. she didn't get to go home. she was rushed to the hospital where she had four coronary artery bypass graphs. she suffered a heart attack. she spends her life educating others so they can get help before it is too late. kristin and ruby are part of a group of women who raise awareness for the american heart association. on tuesday, the go red for women short film will air at the tampa theater at 6:00 p.m.. it is meant to educate people and bring a community of survivors together. kristin and ruby are here now with me to share their stories. thank you both so much for coming on today on news channel 8. we appreciate it. kristin, let's start with you in your story. you said -- how did you know what was happening. >> i didn't know. in the epitome of fitness and relatively young at age 33, so when the effects of the stroke occurred, i had no idea what was >> wow. and that is very scarele. all of us think, hey, we run, we work out, we eat right. this doesn't happen to me. >> no, it doesn't. you're not expecting it at all. ruby, let me ask you. you had a heart attack and didn't realize it until you went to the doctor. wrong? >> well, walking is my exercise of choice and it was beginning to become progressively harder to walk and i had reported that to my cardiologist who said we will plan tests for you and different things. in the meantime, i had had an episode where i couldn't walk even a half block and i became short of breath, had heaviness symptoms that are not necessarily typical of a heart be because of my history of diabetes. so, it is important that people know that there are typical signs and symptoms of heart attack but there are also, you need to know your body. you need to stay in contact with your doctor, you need to report changes and that. i went to see my doctor. he told me, tell your husband to bring the lip stick because you're not going home. i think you're having a heart attack and i ended up having four bypass graphs. >> that is so scary. i was looking at the picture of your large, beautiful family there. what is the message? there are so many people just like you. they have families, they take care of themselves. what do you want women to know? >> first and foremost, i think it is vital that every woman get a check up, a wellness check up every year. be aware of what they're feeling. what they're going through. if they're having shortness of the doctor. it is very important. >> ruby, would you saturday same? what else would you advice advise? >> the same thing. know your bodiy, know your numbers. know your cholesterol number, your hdl, your ldl, your blood sugars, know those numbers. talk with your healthcare provider and develop a relationship with your healthcare provider. know that there could be other disease. the overwhelming feeling of doom. the heaviness in the arm or what signs, too. >> absolutely. we're so happy that you guys are here and that you both got to was going on. and so happy you're here to share your message with everyone today. >> thank you. to learn more about heart disease, we posted helpful information for you on our website, wfla.com, and remember, february 5th is national wear red day. rock the red on friday to show your support awareness. it is a good idea if you have a red jacket as you'll see in the forecast. we had a lot of rain, especially for thursday. it looks like this up coming work week, we'll have rain around on thursday as well. but when we look at the entire month of january, really some heavy rain fall, we had seven days of over a half inch rain in tampa and so for the whole month, 6.18 inches and that makes it the 6th wettest january on record for venice, actually, the second wettest and this is just what you tend to see during these el nino type winters. we've had this active brought in a lot of moisture. what we're seeing today is mainly up stairs moisture. high up around 30,000 feet. any showers will probably dry up cloud. we'll keep it dry here. this is the front that we'll be watching as you come through late thursday night into friday and that brings us a cool down by the end of the week and bring us some rain. so this is the forecast showing the cloud cover around here during the day. no rain here in the backyard. warmer, we'll seat high temperatures reaching the low 70s and then for tomorrow morning, we'll start out a little bit milder, low 60's tonight and then tomorrow we'll get into the upper 70s. chance for rain tomorrow, mainly south of polk county. hardy, highlands, desoto county. you might see afternoon showers move in on the breeze but i think the real rain event will be wednesday evening and more during the day on thursday. so this afternoon, that is what we're looking at mainly 70s over the interior but then as we head towards the next couple of days, wednesday, most of the showers will be north of the bay area and as we head into thursday, it will be a dreary day, and then the front comes through on friday early in the morning, still pretty cloudy though behind the front friday so we'll see falling temperatures through the day, windy conditions, back to more winter like weather by the end of the week. it is very nice. >> enjoy today and the next couple of days before it gets not so nice. >> thank you so much. coming up, local stars shine in the senior bowl and steven stamkos takes center stage in the nhl skills celebration. we'll see if he has the hardest shot in the league next in sports. here is what you'll see tomorrow at 6:00 a.m.. >> something to think about before your next mani/pedi. i'm gayle guyardo. we'll show you some of the safest products to use. >> plus weather and traffic on . the nhl all star break is designed to give players a much needed rest from the grind of the regular season. because the world is a cruel and unforgiving place, those who do off. i'm sorry about your luck stamkos and bishop. in nashville participating in the skills competition. stammer having trouble with a bad angle one timer in the team relay event. he eventually got it together. bishop about as accurat 200 feet away. check out the big fellow in the goalie goal's portion sticking a couple in the opposite net before dylan larkin comes by. they're smiles now but if they meet in the playoffs again, this conversation would be different. stamer comes back for the hardest shot competition, first try, 9.5. next attempt, though, 103.9. that is really, really good. but his top mark stands for a matter of seconds because the predator's defenseman's first crack was 105.3. 109.1 mrafd! that is fast -- miles an hour! that is fast. he finished second but not in stamkos' mind. >> the guys say i actually won. shea wins every year regardless. you see his mechanics and the size. it doesn't surprise us how hard he shoots that thing. >> nothing to be embarrassed about. how about hoops? first time these two have met since 2003 doesn't mean they like each other. perhaps the pregame shenanigans inspired dorian smith. that is deep like an adele song. florida up 15 at halftime. early second, chris giazu to ubudu who puts the mountaineers in the dunk tank. they never trail in an upset victory over west virginia 88 to 71. florida state and clemson locked in a close one until the second half when the nols crack it open. the oops. dwayne bacon who puts 21 in the box score leading fsu past clemson 76-65. finally, the senior bowl. last chance to shine for college football's top prospects before next month's nfl combine. aaron green is throwing shade at the north defense. the tsu running back, 23 yards untouched for a touchdown. later, la salle's defense is standing tall. nicholas from delray beach says who is your daddy right into the arms of oak man. south goes on to win it 27-17. that is it for sports. i'm paul. we have much more coming up in the next half hour. we have team coverage in iowa where the candidates for president are hoping to win over voters before the big caucus. . good afternoon. i'm candace mccowan. thank you for joining us this sunday. it is time to check in with mark forecast. hi there, mark. >> morning candace. kind of cloudy out there in some spots but the clouds are not the rain producing type. just really helping to make your photographs look a little bit nicer with the cloud canopy streaming in off of the gulf of mexico. 69 degrees outside and, well, will we see the sparkling blue sky? let's take a look out in the you can see how far the clouds go. all the way back to mexico. you can call these exotic clouds. they come from the tropics in the pacifics. the answer is no, no clearing out at any time soon. we'll have to wait for a front later in the week. we'll keep it mostly cloudy today with some sunshine mixed if in with the high clouds. at least the temperatures are the population is here! the big question for donald trump is can he get all of these people and others in iowa to go to caucus for him monday night. >> trump knows this more than it means little if people don't caucus. >> get out of bed and caucus. >> larry schmitt won't let trump down. >> what is it about him that is appealing to you? >> his attitude. he'll make it right. >> angela gable got
