A milder start will lead us into a milder afternoon as well. Yesterday we were in the 60s. Were topping out in the 50s with increased clouds. More so on the coastline than inland. Inland locations rhondella, could inch toward 60. Rhondella breaking overnight, a teenager is in serious condition the 17yearold driver allegedly sideswiped another car. That driver followed the teen and called police. Officers saw the driver driving erratically without headlights. They stopped the pursuit. Thats when the teen crashed and was found injured and lying in the road. The investigation is continuing. Doug also breaking overnight, Boston Police investigating a serious crash it happened on quincy street in dorchester around 11 00 last night. One person suffering serious injuries. Were told the driver did stay on the scene. Rhondella beverly firefighters putting out a fire on kelleher road. No one was hurt. John family says he was kitteridge street as a car was coming over the hill. He just kept saying that his leg hurt. He had a big gash over his eye and a bump on his head. People come flying down this street all the time. Its its dangerous. John neighbors have long worried about this hill and now the boys parents think the crash should prompt a review of the bus stop. Hopefully, something gets done about the bus stop situation, because we dont want nothing like this to occur again. John right now police and the School District are investigating to see if the crash could have been prevented. In the meantime, the boys parents are pleadiit cautious around school buses. The 72yearold victim received cuts on her head. She was taken to mass General Hospital and is expected to survive. Someone called the b. U. Campus claiming he was barricaded inside a boobytrapped room at h a few minutes later, the person called back to say he had shot a hostage. With that cold blast in place, there is a chance for a few snowflakes to fly even outsi tomorrow evening. Heres that big system were tracking. You can see that stretch of rainfall making its way through toronto through West Virginia and then behind that the winds are bringing blizzard warnings through much of the great lakes, bringing that next chance of snowfall for areas of new england. Right now things are looking relatively dry and clear, but look closely what were seeing in the southern portions of the coast right now moving out into the cape as well. Theres a very light cloud deck low clouds hinting at the clouds that will continue to develop as they push westward throughout the afternoon forecast today. Thats something were watching mainly on the coastline today. Those clouds keeping our temperatures just slightly cooler along the coast when compared to inland locations. Right now 46 in boston. As i mentioned, with that sun massachusetts today, thats where we see the likelihood of a high near 60 degrees in pittsfield. Quite a bit warmer than the low to mid 50s were expecting for boston and much of the coastline for this afternoon as well. Low pressure off the atlantic is bringing clouds onto the coastline for this afternoon. Were watching whats next, which, of course, is that big system bringing that rainfall. That moves in with a cold front as we move into late tonight into sunday morning. With that, we do see the high likelihood of showers. Snowfall . That will try to wrap behind the cold front bringing the chance of snowfall more likely to the mountains, but we could see flakes elsewhere. Heres a look at that. The worcester hills sunday night especially could see a very light coating of snow trying to push through. In the lower elevations, where many of us live, possible flake or two, but really mostly staying outside of that snow chance. Moving into the berkshires, though, thats where we see that close to 2inch mark as we head into sunday n evening as well. Your sevenday forecast includes big changes heading our way. Police saying the 42yearold heath mullet barricaded himself in his home yesterday. A woman and a young child managed to escape from that house during the standoff. He held police at bay and did open fire, hitting the police car there. This is what the window of that home looked like. You can see its full of bullet holes. Shiloh ellis is 10. Hes been doing crossfit since he was 7. It makes me feel more confident, and i kind of like it. Erika hes the number one fundraiser for an Organization Called kettle belts for kids. Theres a lot of nonprofits out there that support sherlt, food, education, even Early Education for homeless kids. But theres no one bringing fitness into shelters for homeless kids. Erika a huge missing piece says founder amy owens. Her organization has been supporting shelters with play spaces. This spring they start a Pilot Program in the boston area bringing their own workouts into shelters. Were working with crossfit and crossfit kids to take the curriculum and then adapt it a bit to really be able to work on this is something shelters need. Erika the former head of the National Center on family homelessness has been consulting on the program. For kids, movement is critical. For Young Children in particular, when you move, its actually tied to your brain development. Erika it was a sad statistic that sparked shilohs passion. Details coming up. Rhondella thank you, kelly ann. Breaking overnight, a serious crash under investigation in wareham. A 17yearold driver suffering serious injuries after being thrown from a car. It happened around 4 30 this morning on county road. Police say the teen sideswiped another car, then drove out happened, but the chase was called off before the crash. The car slid off the road, striking several trees. Breaking in dorchester, a car crashes into a person on quincy street in dorchester. That patient is being treated for serious injuries. It happened around 11 00 last night. Were told the driver did stay on the scene. The crash is under investigation. Doug right now, a 9yearold from roslindale is recovering after getting struck from a car. He was getting off the school bus when he was hit. It happened right in front of police and the school are trying to figure out if that crash could have been prevented. Doug the president elect has already named three key members of his National Security team. And as Nichole Berlie explains, two of them are already coming under fire. Nichole team trump announcing alabama senator Jeff Sessions for attorney general, Lieutenant General Michael Flynn for National Security advisor and representative Michael Pompeo of kansas as cia director. Amid the announcements, controversy. Sessions, an alabama senator for 20 years, was blocked from a federal judgeship in 1986 after allegations he made racial remarks, including testimony from a black u. S. Attorney who says sessions called him, quote, boy. Sessions denied those i am not insensitive to blacks. Nichole the aclu, naacp and massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren are criticizing the selection of Jeff Sessions. I strongly urge donald trump to withdraw any consideration of senator sessions. But if donald trump fails to do that, then there will be a moral question in the United States senate. Nichole Michael Flynn is questioned by some for his relationship with russia and his book in which he wrote i dont believe all cultures are morally equivalent. But no signs of worry from team trump. Weve got a great number of men and women, great qualifications, come forward to serve this new administration. The president elect now paying 25 million to settle three fraud lawsuits against his defunct trump university. The classaction lawsuit charged that trump u failed to deliver on its promise to educate people about the real estate market. The settlement means the plaintiffs will get at least half of their money back. Trumps lawyer says the settlements are not an admission of guilt. Trump had repeatedly said in the past that he would not agree to a settlement. Rhondella a cape cod stunned by the arrest of a teen, the captain of a High School Football team accused of a school bus attack on a 14yearold girl. His team taking the field without him. Newscenter 5s diane cho with the story from bourne. Diane police say the teen girl was attacked while walking to her bus stop on puritan road when suddenly, they say, she was grabbed from behind. Players from the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School take the field friday night without one of their captains. Thats because 18yearold john kidnapping. The perpetrator in this case tackled her from behind, placed his arm around her neck while she was on the ground, applying pressure. Diane prosecutors say the victim is a 14yearold girl. They say she was walking to her bus stop on november 10 when she was attacked. Prosecutors say another teen saw what happened and screamed, causing the suspect to take off. The vehicle in question, according to the police report, is a very distinguishable type vehicle. Diane prosecutors say several witnesses saw the car several days prior to the attack and on the day it happened, but allens attorney argues there are several inconsistencies not only regarding the description of the attacker but also the vehicle. The only eyewitness of the assailant is this young girl who was in close proximity to the victim. She was shown a photo array. The defendants photo was in that photo array. She failed to identify anybody within that photo array. School tells us allen is a good student. Hes not had a discipline history, so it is surprising. An arrest warrant will be issued monday for a woman who suffered an apparent Drug Overdose in a lawrence dollar store. You remember this heartbreaking video showing the womans young daughter trying to wake her mother. Mandy mcgowen did sh mcgowens daughter is now in state custody. Rhondella police in maine investigating a deadly crash. A man and his 5yearold were killed after their car was hit by a box truck on the maine turnpike. It happened yesterday afternoon, backing up traffic for eight miles. Police say a 56yearold driver from lowell was behind the wheel of the truck when it struck the car and landed on top of it. I think, you know, given the postelection culture that has been, i think, magnified over the last week and a half or so, i think a lot of people have been emboldened to have more overt displays of homophobia and racism and xenophobia. Right now, were seeing beautiful, sunny skies overhead. Its a half and half forecast this weekend. We have the sun in place today. Eventually, those clouds are moving in this then, of course, heading out tomorrow, thats when that cool air will move in along with some of those showers were looking to track as well. So heres the big reason for that change. The storm system out to our west, which right now is causing blizzard conditions through the great lakes, were not going to see that here locally, but heres the thing. You move through western new england and much of vermont, we see that chance of snow looking to accumulate to even near half a foot at some of the highest elevations. Behind that system which will not only make things feel cooler, but thats going to keep our temperatures on the lower end of the scale through much of next week as well. Heres some of the clouds moving in over some of the far southern portions of our coastline, especially through the cape and islands where were seeing a very low cloud deck, even a spot drizzle. Those will keep the temperatures along the coast cooler. Righw mid to up er 40s. In western massachusetts, were in the lower 30s and a few upper 20s to start off the morning hours. We do have clouds moving in on the coastline keeping our temperatures in the low to mid 50s, but for inner portions of new england, thats where we see the likelihood of those temperatures inching closer to 60 degrees. By late this evening, a spot shower or two, but the best chance of rain holding off until sunday morning. There are those clouds moving in as we move into the late morning folk. Notice how boston still sunny, but by this afternoon, those clouds are creeping westward, and by 5 00 this evening, those clouds are moving onto 128 and much of rhode island as well. By late tonight, there are spot shower chances. The main rainfall holds off until tomorrow morning pushing through the area with the chance ofvi and eventually were tracking some of this snowfall in the Higher Elevations eventually trying to make its way toward the lower elevations as well. At this point, most of us missing out on the best snow chance. Could see a flake or two, but the worcester hills westward seeing two to six inches especially through the Green Mountains of vermont this weekend. Sevenday forecast is looking mild to start. Were in the 50s today. Speaking of winds, monday, we have those winds actually keeping our windchill factor, basically what it feelslike temperature, down into the teens. Notice how pittsfield monday evening has a windchill factor of 7 degrees. So its a very big cooldown to start this week. With names like purple people eater, ectoplasm and beetle juice, the far from the tree Cider Company in salem, theyre of the orchard. Even though were doing it the same way as a hundred years ago, its very different. These apples have higher tanins. We like to use these. Doug the native and state grad began brewing his craft cider business three years ago. Its where he started that might surprise you. I got into cider because i was originally a wine guy. Doug after college, he spent years traveling and working the vineyards of europe. When he returned home, he realized the perfect fruit for en we get all of our apples from massachusetts. We ferment it slowly over the winter in our cellar next door, and as its fermenting, it turns into alcohol. We age it either in a barrel or in a tank, and then its a hard cider. Doug thats just the beginning. This building that once housed the first gas station in salem now serves as a tasting room so the public can sample his concoctions and get that some are. People say thats really interesting. Thank you, but no thanks in the future. Some people say, wow. I didnt expect that to taste that good. Doug breaking overnight in dorchester, Boston Police are investigating a serious crash on quincy street. Police say a car struck a person at around 11 00 last night. That patient suffering from serious injuries. Police say that that driver did stay on the scene. Rhondella right now, owners of apartments on kelleher road will overnight fire. It started in a maintenance garage after 1 00 this morning. No one was fire. The fire is under investigation. Doug police and School Officials are looking into the crash that sent a fourth grader into the hospital. The boy was hit by a passing car getting off the school bus. The child is banged up but expected to be okay. Chelsea police need your help to track down the driver of this elderly woman crossing broadway. This happened yesterday morning.
