Five years later craffey admitted to the crime and was sentenced to life in prison for seconddegree murder with the chance of parole in 15 years. Today will be craffeys second appearance before the parole board. There is no way that someone like this could be rehabilitated. I would be very worried if he was just out in the general public. Randy even if the parole board approves craffeys release, he wont be getting out of prison right away. He must also serve time for aggravated rape, but the victims family worries craffey will be that much closer to freedom. Emily new Surveillance Video shows a fathers desperate plea for help as his mattapan home erupts in flames, his son trapped inside. Right now that victim is in critical condition. Other ways to watch your waistline without dieting ahead. Cindy . Olessa were following breaking news in burlington. Only one lane of 128 northbound open after a wrongway crash near route 3. Well have live updates all morning chtd cindy. Cindy i expect big impacts for the evening commute, olessa, as snow could make it slippery. The full timeline on that and whats ahead as we work through the weekend. Thats coming up. First take a look at the temperatures as you head out the door this morning. We are in the teens worcester and plymouth. 23 degrees as youre heading out good morning from haity. Good morning, eyeopener. Randy good morning. A very special wakeup call this morning all the way from haiti. Six years after the devastating earthquake there, proof that the spirit of rutland teenager Britney Gengel lives on in the orphanage created in her name. Emily the be like brit foundation has done so much good there, and its always inspiring to see how far theyve come. Cindy shifting gears to the weather for today. It looks like the morning commute weatherwise isnt so bad. But this afternoon is a different story. It will suddenly get very slippery this evening. A potent disturbance coming at us. Not a lot of snow with it but it is the timing that will impact the evening commute. There could be a few snow squalls. Where we get that burst of heavier snow that can quickly coat the roads with snow and make them very slippery and reduce visibility as well. That is the concern after about 3 00 this afternoon. Here is the system right now. It is racing in our direction. Out ahead of it the skies are still mainly clear this morning. It is cold out there. Look at all the teens showing up beverly 19. Lawrence 19. 13 now in orange. 15 in worcester. Teens from plymouth down to the cape as well. 23 out the door right now in boston but heres the difference from yesterday. The wind. Its very light. And notice the direction of the wind today. Its actually turning around to the south. That southerly component of the wind, although it stays on the lighter side, will be just enough to fight increasing clouds. The temperatures may come up to near 40 in boston and the lower it will be colder off to the north and west but with this temperature profile and this structure, we may start out as a little bit of rain in southeastern massachusetts. Notice on the timeline by 3 00 this afternoon a couple of rain showers may start to break out in southeastern massachusetts. Not a lot happening just yet. But between 3 00 this afternoon and 5 00 p. M. , wow, look at how suddenly that snow starts to fill in areas along and north of the pike. So this is what i mean for the evening commute. And by 8 00 this evening, look at that darker blue showing up out through Worcester County. This is when we have the potential for those heavier snow squalls. These are going to be pushing eastward so although we start as rain near the coastline, it will change to snow. By about 11 00 tonight, the bulk of this is winding down and pushing off shore. Its gone. Long gone by tomorrow mornings commute. So the amounts here i think ray long and north of the pike a coating to a couple of inches. There could be localized spots if you get in a squall where you see just a little bit more than that. Thats the average across most massachusetts under an inch is likely. Now the temperatures tonight drop back into the 20s but as the storm pushes by us, it really begins to intensify here to our east. Thats going to keep the snow going into tomorrow across northern maine but it will allow the winds to really houle. Wind gusts 3040 Miles Per Hour all day long tomorrow. When you couple that with the temperatures near 30, wind chills Single Digits and teens throughout the day tomorrow. The winds die down on thursday but its very cold here to end the beak. As we get towards friday i want to show you the setup. There will be another storm approaching from the west. This will spawn a coastal low. This may pull in milder air. There will be limited cold air with this system. That will likely lead to mixed precipitation as well. So we are going to be watching this. It looks like a messy setup this weekend could have big impacts on the playoff game down at gillette. It does turn colder once again for early next week. Lets get you out to the roads, olessa. Olessa were watching a big problem in burlington. This is 128 northbound. As you can see, three lanes still shut down early this morning for this accident involving the car that was heading in the wrong direction. This is a northbound side of 128 right by route 3 in burlington. These are live pictures from the scene right now. You can see the heavy backup with just one lane squeezing through as well as the shoulder. You want to plan accordingly. Budget in the extra tafl time. Doug meehan is on the scene and hell bring us the latest in just a few minutes. Lets goat the maps. Heres the accident youre watching. You can see the delays approaching that crash. Expect those to build while that accident investigation continues. Theyre reconstructing the scene right now. It might be a while. Well keep you posted. Aside from that, were doing okay. All the overnight construction is gone on 128 by great plain avenue as well as south of town on the expressway. Trains and buses also doing okay. Randy thank you. 18 after 5 00. Right time. His quick thinking saving lives. Lieutenant Matt Anzivino is a 15year veteran with the department. His instincts quickly taking over when he noticed a strange odor as he was dropping off his daughters at the back to basics day care. He immediately had the Christ Episcopal Church and school evacuated. Sure enough. Fire crews found high levels of traced to a malfunctioning oil burner. The boiler has been repaired, and the day care should be open again this morning. Emily economic headlines. Investors still on edge overseas. Chinese stocks seesawed today as worries lingered over the countrys economic outlook. On wall street, stocks finished slightly higher yesterday after mounting a lastminute comeback, snapping a threeday losing streak. Right now, stock futures are higher. Its a step forward for a casino in the bay state. M. G. M. Springfield will start to raze the Zanetti School as it prepares to build a new casino the Gaming Company says the school suffered some of the worst damage during the 2011 tornado. The demolition job is expected to last several weeks. The mbta is now considering completely replacing the entire green line fleet over the next ten years. Its a proposal that would cost the t roughly a billion dollars. The mbta hoping to avoid another catastrophe on the rails. In just a few months, well find out whether the t will scrap or scale back the green line extension, which is among the agencys most costly rail projects ever. All right. If youre looking for a health boost but you dont want to diet, there are simple swaps that could be the caloriecutting solution. Randy right now start in the mornings. Skip the juice. Go for the whole fruit instead. A glass of orange juice comes in at 122 calories. The actual orange is 69 calories. You may not want to go meatless, but think about going halfway. Replacing some of the ground chopped mushrooms can save you calories. And this one is simple but worth remembering. Many people confuse thirst for hunger so have a glass of water before your meal. Youll probably eat less. Emily im so guilty of that. Randy i think most of us are. Emily i want the mint milano. No, no, you want water. A shipping container becoming the perfect concert venue.
