these winds have actually dried us out which is a good thing because those very wet roads from yesterday are drying out. notice out across worcester county, we are near freezing so there could be one or two slick spots here and there but overall not a big issue this morning. you can see how the skies are trying to clear on out. we have high pressure nosing in from the west but our storm still sitting to our north. a fair amount of wind today. but we will see sunshine. watching this right here. that will bring in some snow by late in the day tomorrow but today is a dry day. west though. in the teens and 20's so that's the air that will be working on in. we're actually warmer this morning than we will be this afternoon despite fact the sun will be out. i expect temperatures to be mainly in the 30's this afternoon but with those winds blowing, this is what you need to dress for. wind chills getting no higher than the 20's here throughout the day. we'll step you through the rest of the week coming you. let's get you out to the roads. olessa: good morning. a live look to start things off. the zakim bridge by the leverett connector. you can see that overnight construction picking up shortly here. see the rest of your ride. that's the roadwork we're watching this morning. once again that project 93 south at the zakim. so far it is a quiet star. not seeing any issues along the pike or route 9 this morning. so far so good as you make your way north of town 93 south out of methuen all the way down to boston. trains and buses are expected to start on schedule. randy: musical legend david bowie has died. emily: his family announcing the his reps says bowie died "peacefully," surrounded by family, after an 18-month battle with cancer. he was 69 years old. bowie's career spanned five decades, an icon of the music industry. he just released a new album on friday, which was also his birthday. also breaking this morning, one man is dead after an early morning fire in gloucester. flames broke out about 3:30 this morning at a home on east main and hammond streets. our doug meehan is headed to the scene right now. we'll bring you more information as we get it. officer is preparing to face a judge. and we are getting new details emily: the eyeopener's todd kazakiewich is live at the courthouse in boston with the sodded? todd: emily, randy, good morning. the boston police officer who was shot in the leg friday is now out of the hospital as the suspect who allegedly shot him will be arraigned later today here in dorchester district court. as newscenter 5 was first to report, officer kurt stokinger pulled over suspected drug dealer grant headley on friday in dorchester. a warrant was out for his arrest for violating probation. he was serving for gun charges. police say headley, who was driving without a license, got out of the car and started firing at the nine-year veteran officer. headley then took off and responding officers chased him down. headley will be arraigned in court this morning on several charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. as for officer stokinger, we're told he's at home resting comfortably. kazakiewich, wcvb, newscenter 5. randy: thank you. 4:33 on this monday morning. other stories we're following right now. the man charged with killing the little girl once known as baby doe is getting ready to head back to court. michael mccarthy will be arraigned on a murder charge today in the death of bella bond. mccarthy is the boyfriend of bella's mother, rachelle. she is charged as an accessory. the toddler's body was found in a plastic bag on deer island in june. emily: worcester police are investigating a hit-and-run that hurt two people. it happened last night on southbridge street. it's not clear how badly the victims were injured. webster police were investigating a car found in that town, but it's not clear if that ended up being connected to the crash. that crash comes on the heels of this deadly hit-and-run just miles away in worcester. 21-year-old vincent green will be in court today. he's accused of plowing into a 56-year-old man on west boylston street early saturday, then taking off. green was caught a few hours later. home from the bus stop. randy: an arrest in a deadly hit-and-run in malden. it happened on christmas weekend. 71-year-old yaai chen was struck in a crosswalk on pleasant street. it happened near the assisted living facility she called home. investigators have not released the name of the suspect, but an arraignment is scheduled today. emily: commitment 2016. donald trump heads back to new hampshire today as new polls show potential upsets in two early battleground states. donald trump still holds a strong lead here in new hampshire. but a new poll show he's trailing rival ted cruz in iowa by four points. >> i don't intend to send jack boots to knock on your door and every door in america. emily: on sunday cruz knocked trump's signature plan to deport millions of americans. trump, meanwhile, kept up the pressure on cruz again questioning if his being born in canada endangers his right to be president. the race also tightening in both early voting states on the democratic side. hillary clinton trails bernie just ahead of him in iowa. >> i think we're gaining steam here in iowa. i think we have an excellent chance to win here. clinton: these polls go up, they go down. i stay pretty focused. emily: both clinton and sanders are campaigning in iowa today with less than a month before caucus voters cast their votes. trump's rally in windham starts at 11:00 a.m. chelsea clinton will be campaigning for her mother in boston today. the former first daughter will headline a fundraiser called an "evening with chelsea." she's headed to new hampshire for three events tomorrow. randy: right now an interview featuring a drug lord and a hollywood star is at the center of a growing investigation. this morning, the process of extraditing the man known as el chapo is officially underway. the eye's erika tarantal is tracking new information. erika: it was dreams of hollywood that ultimately landed notorious drug lord joaquin "el chapo" guzman back in custody. some three months ago meeting with academy award winning actor sean penn. penn and mexican actress kate investigation for the interview detailed in rolling stone magazine. "el chapo," trying to land a movie deal about his life, was shopping the idea to producers and actors. all it got him was a new pair of handcuffs after being rearrested friday following a shootout and southern worcester county over to, we had two inches north of boston up in haverill. boston just over an inch and a third. so, yeah, we had our share of rain yesterday. we need it. look at these temperatures. it was so warm. we set a slew of records across the northeast. boston jumped up to 58. worcester, providence setting records. portland, maine. hartford, connecticut, got to 61 degrees yesterday. so we had the warmth all brought in here, of course, by the wind which did gust 40 to over 50 miles per hour across the area. pretty wild storm. those winds are still active this morning. we're still getting gusts over 20 and 30 miles per hour. coming from now. they're coming from the west. that is bringing in dryer air and it's bringing in colder air as well. but those winds are going to make it feel like it's in the 20's all day long so wind chills an issue today. we are going to see some sunshine though. that will be a nice change of pace after the stormy weekend. and it is short lived because by tomorrow evening, we're talking about a little round of some light snow getting on in here. you can see things pretty quiet now. the skies are in the process of clearing out. lake-effect snow bands coming across the lake. these will focus across new york state and northern new england today as we have high pressure settling in. that's why the sunshine. but our system that brings in the snow tomorrow, it's a very fast-moving little clipper system. it's going to race towards us very quickly by the end of the day tomorrow. look at the cold though. i'm sure you heard about that game with the vikings and the seahawks. it was six below zero at kick-off for that game. it's still search below zero in minneapolis now. this is the cold working on in. the temperatures this morning a little deceptive. notice we're close to 40 degrees right around freezing out in worcester county. with that westerly wind today, the temperatures actually drop so we may be in the upper 30's this morning in boston but by noontime, we're down to the freezing mark. that's about where we hold through the afternoon with that westerly wind. 15-20 miles per hour. don't dress for these values in the 30's. you want to dress for those wind chills getting no higher than the 20's throughout the day but again at least we'll see some sunshine. we have the wind today, but the skies are going to be bright. you can see on future cast here just a few clouds throughout the day. we're in great shape today, and the skies stay mainly clear overnight. that will allow the temperatures to drop. it will be cold tonight. teens to lower 20's by the time you're heading out the door tomorrow morning. and it's a dry start with maybe a little hint of sunshine tomorrow morning. and then notice how the clouds fill in by lunchtime. look at that by 3:00 in the afternoon, we are breaking out to rain and snow showers across the area. close to the coastline, i think, it will be warm enough that it's primarily rain initially. notice by the evening commute at 6:00 p.m. we have a little snow working through worcester county. toward the coastline bill late tomorrow evening. i don't expect much more than a coating to an inch of snow through tomorrow night. but once you get outside of 128 out through worcester county especially, we could see one to maybe two inches of snow by wednesday morning. wednesday features clearing skies. gusty winds. look at the temperatures. as we head into wednesday and thursday, we're going to be hovering near the freezing mark. by friday it still looks like bright sunshine, dry weather. as we head toward next week end, a little concern here. we have a system that will be nearby. commuter models not converging on a solution just yet in terms of where it tracks. at this point we could see rain or snow. the patriots are down at on saturday. olessa: kind of important. cindy: we have all week to watch it. olessa: so far a fairly quiet start on the the card. emily: of course the award show wasn't without a few comedic jabs. jamie foxx took aim at steve harvey's miss universe flub when announcing best original score. that award went to "the shooting happened early sunday morning on falcon street in east boston. the victim's identity has not been released, and there is no word on any arrests. emily: a weymouth woman is in court today, charged in a drunk driving crash with a police cruiser. the weymouth officer involved is recovering. police say kaylin kaiser was drunk when she crossed the center line and slammed into the cruiser on main street sunday morning. she and a passenger were treated for minor injuries. randy: italian police open a murder investigation into the death of an american woman in florence. florida was found dead in her apartment. authorities say she had bruises and scratches on her neck. so far, police do not have any italy's expat community is expressing hope that the case won't turn into another amanda knox-style murder investigation. a group of state lawmakers in maine is launching an impeachment investigation into the state's governor. paul lepage has apologized for racially charged comments he
