Investigators are trying to figure out why plane heading to mcarthur airport plunged into the water off part jefferson. Cbs2s Valerie Castro in laurelton, queens. Reporter well, cindy, the pilot was one of the three people to survive the crash. We havent been able to speak to him at this. But tonight police and the coast guard have called off the search for the final passenger on board that plane. It was scheduled to land at mcarthur airport last night. Despite an extensive search by both the coast guard and Suffolk County police, a queens man remains missing after a plane crashed into the long island sound. The 18hour search covered more than 90 square miles. It crashed saturday night into the harbor just after 11 00 p. M. Police say a student pilot was behind the controls when they started having engine trouble. He turned the controls over to the instructor, who landed the plane in the harbor. Police say all four got out of three were rescued by Suffolk County police. Suffolk county Police Officers commandeered kayaks from local residences and went into the water and were able to keep two passengers, two victims afloat while the Marine Bureau arrived and rescued those individuals. More unprovoked random slashings. This time two people were injured in separate incidents in the bronx this weekend. Hazel sanchez has more. Reporter the slashing happened right here on east 173rd street. Some people are saying it was a random attack while people who live in the area are saying it was a neighborhood fight. What everyone agrees on is that there have been way too many of needs to be done to make our streets safer. Another slashing on the streets of new york city. This time here on 173rd street near southern boulevard in the bronx. It is a little bit out of the normality of this neighborhood to get a slashing. The way that its been happening in the city. Reporter police say around 3 00 sunday morning a 32yearold man was slashed on the face. Husband attacker took off. Kenneth wade lives in the neighborhood and says he witnessed the attack. I seen a little commotion, arguing going on right here with some people i couldnt know exactly. Some was older. They trying to break it up. But eventually somebody swung and did something and then they broke. I. Reporter this was the second atook in the bronx over the weekend. A 26yearold woman was stabbed in the stomach and slashed on as a random unprovoked attack. Police released this video. The man fled the scene. Plus say more than 530 slashings or stabbings have happened in the city since january 1st this year compared to just over 440 during the same time period last year. A 20 increase. Community activist tony herbert says the violence needs to stop. I want to say this to every young block and hispanic male and fee National League in our community we are killing ourselves. The suspect pointed his gun at the officers, drove away, and crashed into a police car. Multiple officers fired at funes, who was shot and is in critical condition. Reporter at one of the three shooting sites in kalamazoo, michigan, a memorial is growing as the Community Mourns the People Killed in a deadly rampage. They werent targeted for any reason other than they were there to be a target. Reporter Authorities Say 45yearold jason dalton, a father and son were killed at this car dealership. Then investigators say dalton killed four women in a Cracker Barrel parking lot. A 14yearold girl was seriously injured. Dalton was arrested early sunday vehicle leaving a bar. Investigators are now reviewing Surveillance Video that captured these shootings from several of the locations, including here at the Cracker Barrel. Cbs news confirmed he was working as an uber driver and passed the companys background check. Ashley knight recognized dalton as the man who gave her a ride a week ago. He talked a lot. He gave off a creepy vibe because he wouldnt stop talking. He didnt seem off, like crazy. Reporter authorities believe dalton would have continued his shooting spree if he werent stopped.
