Reporter assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal who represents the Upper West Side is planning to introduce legislation for supervised injection facilities partly funded by the state places where drug users can go to get high while medical staff watches them. They are going to shoot up wherever they are. So they need their fix. Reporter rosenthal says these facilities would prevent overdoses because of that supervision and help addicts recover with access to treatment and will protect the public from dealing with drugs on the street. You often see people shooting up on subways in public restrooms, playground. Leaving people exposed to contaminated needles, blood, drug paraphernalia. Reporter its a new idea so its unclear where the possible location would be. There are none in the u. S. But rosenthal says similar programs have been successful in europe and canada. The mayor of ithaca is also pushing for a facility but its something many lawmakers call dangerous and some drug counselors strongly oppose. Theres no way to use heroin safely it kills families, it kills communities. And its been destroying the new york state area. Places like hospitals are not are not ideal as a long term solution. A Court Appearance today for a man who allegedly ripped off a group of girl scouts. Michael is facing robbery charges after Police Tracked him down at his deer park home. They say on wednesday, the 34 yearold stole the cash box with about 100 inside from girl scouts selling cookies outside rockville centre. A relative of one of the girls tried to stop him. He chased the subject. He grabbed him. In that tussle, the box fell to the ground and then he about the face. That relative was not seriously hurt. And all the girl scouts were fine.
