Developments from mott haven. Reporter it was mayhem here in the mott haven section of the bronx early this morning. It all started at a party around the corner, a party that was unlicensed, police say, a party that got crashed. There were hundreds of people here in the streets fighting with weapons and a new York City Police officer showed up. He got shot but he fired back and did not miss. Police officer Sherrod Stuart was assigned to anticrime control with his numerous 911 calls reporting a large fight in the street with guns, bats and knives. Reporter it was war in the streets of the south bronx at 2 10 a. M. Saturday when police arrived. Surveillance video giving just a glimpse of the chaos near the scene as people ran from the violence. I saw people fighting each other. Reporter this man who doesnt want his identity revealed said he was working when it got crashed. A group of guys across the street tried to get into the party. Multiple stabbings, the number we believe occurred in the club itself. And the action spilled into the street. Reporter thats when police, including officer stuart, were called and encountered the crowd. The officers engaged in a gunfight when he was hit in the ankle. Reporter 19yearold christopher rice, the suspect in serious condition a young man with a criminal history including arrests for everything from assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct, plus fare beating for which he left court just three hours before saturdays battle with police. Police recovered this gun which they say rice used to shoot officer stuart. Investigator essay they also found this gun and this investigators say they also found this gun and this knife the officer gave the thumbs up at the hospital with Police Commissioner bratton. The 25yearold comes from an impressive nypd background. His father a detective currently serving with the u. S. New information tonight in the shooting of a Philadelphia Police officer. Today the suspect arraigned on attempted murder charges. A judge denied bail for 30 yearold edward archer. Police say he fired at least 13 shots at officer Jesse Hartnett while he sat in his marked car. Hartnett is seriously hurt but will survive.
