frank is off tonight. i m julie haener. amber lee is there to show us how people are coming together to honor the 36 lives that were lost. reporter: julie, we re just outside the star line social club here in downtown oakland. the fundraiser started about an hour ago, and people are asked to donate $10 or more at the door. we re told that all the proceeds will go to fire victims. our camera wasn t allowed inside, but we were able to talk to folks just outside the venue. the fundraiser offers live music to accompany the documentary film. this was a pre-planned event, they decided to turn into a benefit for the victims. he lost friends in the fire, and also knows survivers. right now, people need each other, and communities are very, very important. reporter: people came to help in any way they can. some brought bags of items to donate. people tell me, a true community is one that reaches out to people they don t know. so this is a notebook, i ve never used it. i just
