think -- i don't see every cameron diaz movie but what took her so long? i don't know. >> anyway, this -- there's a picture in "esquire" she looks great. >> yeah. >> and she explains something, i guess she was asked why she decided not to have children and she says, it's so much more work to have children, to have lives besides your own, that you're responsible for. i didn't take that on. that did make things easier for me. a baby, that's all day, every day for 18 years. not having a baby might make things easier but doesn't make it an easy decision. she was explaining why she decided not to have kids. it did cause a controversy. because some people saw it as her being honest and some people saw it as sort of being selfish. i don't want to spend time with something other than me. >> there is one side to this, which is a lot of people don't realize the cost of either the financial cost or the emotional cost of raising children. if you're going to be a parent, be a good one. a lot of people just bring people into the world and don't even think about what -- and then once they have the children, they're not willing to invest the time and care. it's the hardest job you'll ever have no matter what you do for a living and it's also the greatest reward you'll ever have i think in life. so it is a big decision to make, so i mean i'm not going to judge another woman's choice, but she did give her an awful lot of time freed up in the gym and that's why she looks so great and can be naked in her movie. if i can find half an hour in the gym three times a week, so you know what, thank god we can choose to live our lives the way we want to. >> and talk about them. you have to take people criticize that's part of the game too. >> you know what breaks my heart? >> what? >> hearing about something called chronic lyme disease. 41-year-old darcy spent months in pain without a definitive diagnosis. listen to her story. >> in january of 2013 i started to have some leg pain and the leg pain then led to migraines and insomnia. i would have stabbing muscular pain that could last anywhere from 15 seconds to 15 minutes. i also had cognitive issues where i would get lost driving, wouldn't know where i'm going. laundry, i couldn't carry a laundry basket up the stairs. never felt that way before. i was a very, very healthy, ate healthy, exercised. very mentally and emotionally exhausting to not know why. the doctors thought it was ms, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue. they said i was lazy, it was all in my head, i was crazy. which then led me finally nine months later to get myself tested privately for lyme disease. and it did come back positive and we started treatment right away. i was never bitten by a tick. never had a bull's eye. i didn't have the typical symptoms of what you would consider lyme. they say you can get bit by the smallest tick which i think is consider a mite and you never would see it. the medications will manage the symptoms. i've learned patience and to be persistent, you have to keep looking for what is wrong, and not just taking that first diagnosis. >> wow. dr. richard horowitz is the author of "why can't i get better solving the mystery of lyme and chronic diseases" and a scientific board member for the bay area lyme foundation. welcome. so many people are struggling with this. >> yes. it's a terrible problem, it's an epidemic spreading worldwide at this point. >> she said she didn't see the tick bite or bull's eye. that's supposed to be a tell-tale sign but not necessarily? >> no. the ticks are so small this time of year, they're like a pencil head you can hardly see them. half the people don't get a rash and half who do get a rash it doesn't look like the bull's eye. looks like you got bit by a spider or doctors think you got an infection in your skin. they miss the diagnosis. >> we've heard so much about lyme disease i would think when you have some of these symptoms that a doctor would think immediately, let's test you for lyme disease and isn't it just a simple blood test? >> it is. the problem is that the tests are just not reliable. if doctors do some of these tests and it's negative they tell the patient they don't have it. but the first test that they do, it misses about half of the people who have lyme disease. >> good grief. >> what should you do and feeling her symptoms, fatigue, and the doctor says no we've tested you for lyme disease, you don't have it? >> one of the most important things is to take a good history from a patient. for example, if you have good and bad days where your symptoms are coming and going and moving around your body, one day you have muscle or joint pains in the shoulder and do two days later in your hip and three days later in your knee, tingling, numbness and burning moving around your body and walk into a room and can't remember why, forgetting people's names and phone numbers, you're very tired, you a stiff neck and headache, you're sensitive to sounds and light, you can't fall asleep, keep waking you. >> we're nodding. >> yeah. >> yes. >> we got that. >> what do you do? you have all that. >> you have those symptoms, lyme is multisystemic, causes many symptoms at once. you have these symptoms you should get tested. there's a second test, and on the western blot that tells you if you've been exposed. >> tell us what to do. if a person has lyme disease, what's the remedy? >> well, if you get it early you can cure it. take certain antibiotics early on you can knock it out of your body. if you don't get it early in the first month or two it goes on to chronic lyme disease and that's where the controversy lies, what is chronic lyme? the doctors are debating at this point. treat it with antibiotics, don't you treat? what i have found it's not just lyme, these ticks are containing multiple bacteria, viruses, parasites like malaria organisms and that's why people are staying sick. not just the lyme. it's all these other bugs getting into people's bodies. >> okay. >> wow. >> interesting. >> a lot more. >> it's terrifying. you want to be outdoors this time of year. i live outside. everybody
