we still have a little rain lingering at the shore line. this is light rain at best. so we have spot showers that will continue in the forecast especially along the shore through your morning and even your early afternoon. but the heaviest rain has now moved out. let's take a wide view and you can see we are still tracking some heavier rain to the west of us, but that is looking to drop south. we'll track out everything and get to the better forecast of your sunday coming up. there has been a lot of flooding down the shore and ted greenberg is live for us in margate. when we saw you earlier, the hood was up, rain was coming down and that water was very high. >> reporter: it was. and still a little rain coming down, but not anything like what we saw earlier in the morning. in fact a little bit of blue sky is trying to peek out. we're now on amhurst avenue. the water is receding, but the damage is basically done. clearly the water was a lot higher earlier this morning and there is that bmw just abandoned, left there right in the middle of the street. most likely we can only guess that it stalled out in the water and the driver had no choice but to leave it. and we'll spin around this way and look date of birown the oth toward jerome avenue and same situation. minivan down there just left right on the road, no doubt stalled out and abandoned as well. take a look at some video that we have also from other parts of the shore. it really got pounded as cryskrl was telling you. you can see very high water there as well. the rain just came down and all the storm drains just could not handle it all. it came done so quickly. and similar scene in avalon and there, too, you will see people left their cars parked overnight. the water just came up over the tires and they will likely this morning be finding out if any of that water came inside the cars. take a look at this video from hillary montgomery. not her car, but her apartment that the water came right inside her place. now she is dealing with a big mess this morning and a big cleanup. so the rain has stopped, the water starting to recede, but some folks here no doubt dealing with a big cleanup later on today. live in margate, i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. >> and something you mentioned earlier that i think is worth pointing out to our viewers again is that this really is flooding from the rain. so we're not having issues in terms of back bay flooding. >> reporter: that's right. often in nor'easters, we deal with tidal flooding. and that is the result of the tide coming up so high. and then often there is rain on top of that. and then the water in the bay is so high that the water has trouble draining back into the bay. this was not the result of tidal flooding or higher than normal tides. this was the result of very heavy rain coming down and basically the drain just can't keep up with it. in fact i believe this morning it was low tide when this happened. >> all right, ted, appreciate that. remember, you can get the latest weather updates another nbc 10 app. you can track the storm moving out using our interactive radar and you can always get first alerts for your neighborhood by customizing the forecast. now to that breaking news overnight that we've been following out of camden. we have confirmed that a child is dead following this house fire, several other other children also lived inside this row home, at least two others. witnesses are telling us that family members and neighbors were throwing the two children from that second story window to have them escape. other victims including children and adults were transported to cooper university hospital in camden. the two-alarm fire happened overnight, twin row homes going up in flames here on morton street. five or six people were inside including children and adult. they knocked the tire down fird the investigation will continue into the afternoon. >> it was chaotic when the companies arrived, a lot of people out here, they had to do a lot of things to get in operation. as far as the rescues, we'll have to interview all the guys. ooirts still early in the fire. only been under control for a bit of time right now. >> reporter: that father has be fire has been under control about and i had houeight hours marshal is beginning the investigation into the cause of the fire. the fire chief told us that there is no indication right now that this is suspicion in nature. and they say there were working smoke detectors inside the house when the fire started. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. we have new details about an 8-year-old boy who was hits by a freight train yesterday. this morning the child is in the hospital after his leg was run over by that train. neighbors believe the boy was playing with other children on the tracks near wanamaker avenue and darby creek bridge. behind the tracks is a popular skate park. a neighbor explains kids take their lives into their own hands when they hang out there. >> it makes me sick because parents can tell their kids to stay away as much as kids will do what they want to do, it only takes a second. the train can't stop like a car can stop. you just have to stay away. kids have to realize how dangerous it is. >> this by the way is the third time in less than three months that a child has been injured by a train in this area. now a followup on a deadly shooting involving a feud between neighbors in frankfurt. prosecutors in philadelphia have charged a 69-year-old man with first degree double murder. according to turns violent, it's all caught on camera. a parking lot valet gets punched out. we'll explain why next. and nbc 10 is helping teachers and sturndents get prepared for the start of the new year. what by the end of your weekend. a live look outside shows windy conditions, too. we'll talk about it coming up. we'll start with radar. still lingering showers particularly over parts of bucks and mercer county into burlington and then right against the shore line. but for most of us, just now cloudy conditions. take a look along the shore, this is where we saw the highest rain totals. 3 to 5 inches easily. still flash flood warning in place through 8:15 this morning over parts of cape may county. even though the rain has ended, you can could still see flooding issues because we have runoff that will gather in the low lying areas. look at the estimate tagss here. 2.5 inches near atlantic city, 5 inches and above inland. 20 2 inches near strathmere. less than half an inch wilmington and marina in cape may. it looks like storm clouds out there. good news though is that the system is pushing out to sea. so we may see some lingering showers throughout the day, but the heaviest of the rain, that has moved out of here. i've been getting quite a few tweets from some of our viewers. john cook tells me that he has not seen any flooding in his area, so good news there. obviously a different picture in margate where ted greenberg is live for us. we'll check back in with him in the next 15 minutes. new there overnight, police in newark delaware are searching for two men who robbed and shot an applebee's restaurant employee. he was working to his car early this morning when the men confronted him with a gun. he was shot once and is now in stable condition. the two robbers direction. the president announced via twitter that homeland security secretary john kelly will replace priebus. the move comes after reports of in-fighting between priebus and anthony scaramucci. scaramucci accused priebus of leaking information calling him a paranoid schizophrenic. priebus was asked about that last night on cnn. >> are you the leaker in the white house? >> that is ridiculous. give me a break. i'm not going to get into his accusation. >> why not respond? >> because it doesn't honor the president. i'm going to honor the president every day and i'm going to honor his address jen came. agenda. >> a source says the last straw for the failure to repeal obamacare. no replacement yet for kelly's job at dhs has been named. kim jong-un says that today's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile shows his country can hit the u.s. mainland with a potential nuclear weapon. and at least one expert agrees with that. the missile traveled about 2300 miles up into space and came down 620 miles away in waters off northern japan. a private analyst in washington said had the missile been aimed toward the us, it likely could have reached los angeles, denver or even chicago. immediately following the launch, the u.s. and south korea responded by firing missiles of their own. this video released by the department of defense shows the joint exercise at an american national adoption snsh at 1-866-do di 1-866-do-adopt. let's go to our saturday checklist. we'll start with the most obvious conversation. the flooded shore spots, that is going to linger through the morning hours. the water will start to recede some, but many points along the shore especially cape may county reporting flooding at this hour. lingering showers will last as we go through the rest of the day especially along the shore, but even in philadelphia, we could see a spotlight shower. but for the most part, the heavy rain has moved out. swollen creeks still a possibility. once the rain has ended, the water starts to run off to the creeks. so statement they don't crest until later on. we'll be mostly cloudy across much of the area and temperatures will stay only in the 70s as we have this strong northeast flow thanks to the storm system passing. that keeps temperatures cooler. so here is a look at our radar and satellite view and what we're looking at right now, if we drop right down to along the shore, just a few light showers lingering near ship bottom, toms river, and even american ser county. this is all light rain, nothing heavy anymore. but really we have already seen the damage done like i mentioned along the shore points, several flooded reports cape may county, kent county, sussex county all with flooding issues because of the heavy rain that fell more than 12 hours in some spots. you can see this area of heavy rain back to our west. the good news is because of the rotation of the storm system, it will wrap it do the south of us. so southern delaware could get clipped again this afternoon, but i think most of us will stay dry from that west threat that we do see. our hour by hour forecast, this model showing us those lingering showers particularly along the shore through about your lunchtime. still mostly cloudy with the exception of the lehigh valley and berks county where more sunshine may start to break through especially in the afternoon. otherwise the clouds hang right over the i-95 corridor and we are drying out with the exception of the southern part of delaware possibly seeing rain through this afternoon. on top of the rain, windy conditions will continue into the afternoon. gusts around 35 miles per hour possible through much of the area. closer to 40 miles per hour possible along the shore because that is the closest location to the storm center. again, the storm itself is now off to sea. weekend high temperatures, so today mid-70s for most of us. low 70s in some spots like parts of delaware and the shore. tomorrow, a way better forecast. low 80s for highs, and sunny to mostly sunny conditions. that is the day you want to get outside. he had his bike stolen by a man who threatened to shoot him. now this boy is enjoying a new set of wheels. we'll show you who helped to get him back on the road. and do you know what is the most stolen car? coming up, we'll tell you which vehicle is a fair target to thieves. and the tried and true approach to protect your ride. the most stolen car in the united states is the 1997 honda accord. according to a new study, thieves stole more than 57,000 of them last year. in delaware and new jersey, it was the '96 honda accord. experts say protect it by locking it and take the keys with you. in delaware county, a boy had the scare of his life, but he got a nice surprise from a concerned police officer. this is 12-year-old damian of clifton heights. he was riding his bike tuesday when he says a man who threatened to shoot him took his bike away. officer chris izzy showed up to the scene and saw damian was terribly shaken, so the next day the officer returned with a pretty big gift for the boy. >> he said go get your mom and i ran in screaming and said he brought me a new bike. >> i was in tears because all you hear is negativity about police officers. >> i'm the father of four children, i have a child damian's age. i just felt so bad for him. i couldn't imagine if that happened to my child. >> i'm sure he was pretty scared and missing his bike. a facebook post thanking the officer has been shared more than 1100 times. > 8:27. it will be a dreary day ahead, but at lease the heavy rain has pushed out. flooding is left behind. ted greenberg is live for us down the shore in margate. >> reporter: yeah, the rain has stopped, but many shore communities still dealing with high water. a live report straight ahead. right now on "nbc 10 news today," as folks are waking up down the shore, there are flooded streets thanks to the pounding rain. we're live in margate. first alert radar is tracking the rain as it pushes tou out to sea. we'll show you what to expect where you live. and we're following a fire tragedy, this is breaking from overnight. a young child is dead after flames ripped through this south jersey home. we have the details on the investigation. breaking news of course the weather, the stormy weather we had overnight. fortunately it's just starting to clear out. we'll get to those details in a moment. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm rosemary connors. here is a live look down the shore right now at cape may. few people out there on the beach. you can see the cloudy weather still lingering along with showers. we have live team coverage this morning. ted greenberg is live for us in margate where some of the roads are flooded. and krystal klei is tracking the storm moving out. krystal. >> and we're still looking at cloudy conditions, still at some spot showers out there. this is a live view in easton, pennsylvania. in parts of the lehigh valley and berks county, some areas did not see a drop of rain from this system that brought areas the jersey shore and delaware rained for 12 hours straight. so huge difference neighborhood to neighborhood. in philadelphia, close to half an inch, but that was about it. now just dark gray skies overhead. and still spot showers falling in the distance. otherwise a lot of us dry at this hour, even along the jersey shore you see we have finally cleared out. just a few spots of green picking up on radar. and this is what i expect to continue through the rest of the morning hours and even early afternoon, a much better picture, but already flooded roadways and some lingering showers out there. here is the closer look up to toms river and then all the way over to parts of burlington and pemberton where you have light to steady rain, but nothing compared to what we saw a few hours ago. after temperatures way down because of the rain cooled area, a lot of us in the 60s, highs today will only be in the 70s. we'll talk more about rest of your saturday and into your sunday coming up. and you saw that system on first alert radar. now we'll show you the conditions on the ground. the aftermath of the heavy rain. ted greenberg live for us in margate. so the floodwater appears to be receding to some degree. >> reporter: to some degree. slowly. there was a lot of rain that came down, inches and inches that krystal has been telling us about. this is benson avenue. 6-year-old evan is over there having a good time in the water this morning. he has his flip philanthropies on, not boots. but you can see this street is still flooded. quite a number of streets are still flooded here in margate because there was so much water. takes a long time for the storm drains to be able to drain that water out into the bay. and it's not just here. we have been seeing scenes like this in the atlantic and cape may counties. that a look at video from authorinorth wildwo wildwood. you can see high water, cars in the water, cars going through it. some folks taking chances and driving through the flood waters. not necessarily a good idea. we have seen cars this morning stalled out in the water. take a look at avalon, as well. speaking of cars potentially stuck, people left their cars there, parked their last night. and then we have this very, very heavy rain overnight, the waters came up and surrounded those cars. and not just cars. take a look at hillary montgomery's video from inside her place in upper township, the water came inside and now she is dealing with a big mess there. she said that the water came into every room in her apartment there in the strathmere section of upper township. so you can see back here live in margate, there is a drain, but there is so much water here, it will take a while for all the water to be able to drain back into the bay. so evan here i think will have quite a bit more time to enjoy on the street, a lot of people drying out. luckily the rain has stopped. tim ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. and remember, you can get weather updates anytime by downloading the nbc 10 app. it is a free download and of course don't forget we'll be updating this forecast throughout the day. obviously this system is moving out to sea, it's pushing out offshore, but we will have lingering showers. so again, you can get the latest information with the nbc 10 app. now to that breaking news that we've been following out of camden where a 4-year-old child has died following a house fire. randy gyllenhaal is live in cam b den and he's been talking to family members. >> reporter: and family members confirm that that 4-year-old girl died in this overnight blaze that hit two row homes here in camden. at least two other children did live inside this row home. this is where witnesses report that those kids were being throne out of the second story window so they could escape this fire. other victims including both children and adults were transported to cooper university hospital here in camden. the two-alarm fire happened overnight, the twin row homes going up in flames on morton street. firefighters say five or six people were inside including adults and children. i just spoke with the godmother of that 4-year-old child and she says this is a tragedy for their family and for this neighborhood. >> she was a good kid. beautiful little girl. she had a bright future. she was born in january, took her to chuck e cheese. i had so much love for her. i still do. >> reporter: the fire marshal has been on scene this morning investigating the cause of this fire. right now there is no determination, but authorities say it does not appear suspicion. mean time they do tell us that there were work smoke detectors inside the row home. live in camden, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. camden is one of three communities where a push to get guns offer t s off the streets today. new jersey is hosting gun buy 8:37. phils making some news on and off the field. the team had not one, but two trades just ahead of deadline. we'll show who you is coming and going next. and taking a look at first alert radar, heaviest rain offsho offshore, but we are looking at spot hours in the forecast. a better forecast sunday. details coming up. and pets in pennsylvania have new protections to keep them safe from abuse like this. this week we discuss the impact for you and your animals. >> make sure that the tether is at least three times the length of the dog's body or 10 feet, whichever is greater. and plus a double digit lead for the democratic candidate running for new jersey governor. we'll look what the is behind phil murphy's surge in the polls and what role christie, trump or even murphy's gender could be playing. that is sunday on nbc 10. right back to our view of radar. a much different picture than a couple hours ago. the yellows and reds off to sea now. some lingering showers in bucks kountzi i county and northeast philadelphia looking at a tad bit of rain still falling. but this is light compared to what we saw earlier today where we had reports of 3 to 5 inches of rain falling. on the jersey shore, rest of the day, we're at 71 now, we will stay in the low 70s throughout the rest of today. strong northeast flow will keep us windy and it will keep us cooler. on top of that, spotty showers are still possible as well. in philadelphia, we're looking at 68 currently moving into i think about the mid-70s this afternoon. we could still see some spot showers picking up here, but don't be fooled, some peerkpeek sun as well in the afternoon hours. we'll look at sunday coming up. it's the moment from eagles training camp that has a lot of people talking. a little guy deliver as big hit on carson wentz. so who is the kid who sacked the eagles qb and what does wentz have to say about it? we'll fill you in. nbc 10 continues our commitment to clear the she would tershelters. just pure muscle. looks like a strong dude. so maybe somebody that likes to be active? >> surprisingly, he walks really well on a leash. but he is, he's strong, he's in really good body condition. whoever had him must have taken good care of him. but he's a great guy. he has some funny little underbite. >> yeah, super cute. >> we call him shark mouth. >> he's a little fix 80sed of what is going on behind the camera. we have a floor director, a couple guests in the studio. so if he seems preoccupied, that is it. >> he's very observe vanant and smart. >> and you have an adoption special this week? >> yeah, now things have gotten tight so we've completely waived adoption fees for all dogs 35 pounds or above. our kennel at capacity, to to encourage adoptions, fees are waived. and also cats also became urgent which is just a really rough week. lots of intakes. so all cats and dogs over 35 pounds are free this weekend. >> and we initially had that at -- >> yeah, sorry. >> free adoption. >> yeah. and we just want to try to remind people to be patient if you can. lines can get long and you probably will need to wait a little while. but, you know, it's worth it t. to come out because you're saving a life. so please come out and try to have a good time. >> amy, thank you very much. and we also have the information for the shelter if you want to give them a call, 267-385-3800. after the game, they announced that kendrick has been traded for a relief pitcher and cash. and workouts went off without a hitch friday at training camp, but interesting news as michael kendricks revealed he asked the eagles to trade or release him back in january. the eagles of course didn't grant his request saying that they were not into that in his words. kendrick saw a much reduced role with the defense starting just eight games. here he is on if a trade away from the birds is still possible. >> i know there are teams out there that likes what you're doing. there are 32 games. so never closed. >> and you have to keep it loose at camp. and this is johnson in a blond wig. he has the balding going, but braving the elements channeling his inner hulk hogan to keep things loose. here is the shot of the day though, wentz playing with jackson. and wentz is down in a heap. a big hit from jackson. you got to notice, no contact. actually after he said we have to teach little man some better form, but aggression is there. that is your look at sports. enjoy your saturday. let's talk rain totals. we got a lot of rain overnight. it was no surprise, we issued a first alert all the way back on wednesday knowing that the heavy rain was coming our way. now, models indicating that we would get pounded and we tracked the system and we knew that it was the shore and that's exactly what happened. atlant atlantic city airport, over 5 1/2 inches. cape may, 4.43 inches. in millville, 2.5 inches. and look at wilmington, what a difference it makes neighborhood by neighborhood. less than half an inch. and allentown did not report any values. this is the 12 hour loop. wow, just never ening those yes lows and oranges pounded from kent county right through south jersey. the heavy totals sliced through millville and vineland where reported flooding occurred early this morning. now let's look at the kurntz conditions. only lingering light rain showers over parts of philadelphia county, clipping into camden county here. you see burlington, bucks county, mercer as well. but that light green indicates it's mostly just a light rain wedging on in here. most of us just have the clouds right now even the shore has dried out finally even the flooding now has been reported across much of cape may and atlantic county. if we look to the west, we still have an area of more steady to heavy rain, but what i think will happen is the rotation of the storm system will keep it mostly south of us. hour by hour shows some of the lingering showers. not going to rule out a spot shower. you can see some of the receivier rareceive i steadier rain twoets of us, but overall we'll have dryer conditions in the afternoon. clouds will start to break by 6:30 in the evening where we may see a little sunshine bringing through, as well. much more sunshine though by your sunday. here is the planner for today. we'll only get to the mid-70s in the afternoon for philadelphia. same can be said over areas like the lehigh valley, delaware to new jersey. we'll talk about when another heat wave may be brewing coming up. consumer news to let's you know about. three jcpenney stores in our area showers. this is a live view south philadelphia, you see the raindrops on the camera lens. we have lighter rain falling. these showers will be more spotty in nature, but you can see the little wedge over philadelphia. and spot showers i suspect will last through the morning an possibly early afternoon hours. your 10 day on 10, 76 for the high today. and gusty through the afternoon. but tomorrow
