58 in mount pocono. as we go throughout the day, temperatures climbing once again to near 90 degrees. we expect the heat wave to continue. by 8:00 74. by noon, 86 degrees. you can eat lunch outdoors with mostly sunny skies. reaching a high of 90 this afternoon. even warmer on monday with that return in humidity. we'll talk more about that and another 90 degree day on tuesday. we expect this heat wave to continue today, monday and tuesday before we finally see that temperature decrease by wednesday, back to more normal like temperatures. we'll talk about that and tracking storms. that's all coming up in just a few minutes. philadelphia police are investigating a crash that critically injured a man along busy henry avenue in philadelphia's roxborough neighborhood it happened around 3:45 this morning when the man was hit by a car. the driver of that car did stop and is now talking to police. we are preparing for the pope. that means that plenty of people are getting ready to buy of septa's special regional rail passes parfor the papal visit. jesse gary is live at 30th street station with more. jesse? >> rosemary we've been talking all morning about the plan to funnel millions of people from the surrounding area into center city so that they can see the pontiff when he comes next month. we talked about 18 stations. septa says it will be reduced to 18 stations. they will come into three stations here close to the heart of the city. th street station 30th street station is one. market street station is another, and jefferson station. if you want to see the pope he is going to be at the art museum, so how do you get from here all the way over to there? you will have to walk from here all the way over to the art museum catch the regional rail back out of town again in it the evening. this is something people should be aware of when they go online to apply for the opportunity to get the pass, the papal pass for that weekend, the 26th and 27th. sunday turns into monday 12:01 a.m. monday. it goes to 11:59 p.m. monday. 24-hour period for you to go online andnter the lottery to try to purchase the papal pass. if you want to use septa, that's the way you have to do it. you don't have to jump online at 12:01, but apply for the lottery within that 24-hour window. if you do actually win the lottery, bear in mind here's 30th street the art museum is way over there. the unions and the wireless carriers say they will head back to the negotiation table for some more talks. the decision comes after a contract covering nearly 40,000 workers expired just before midnight. that contract affects employees from massachusetts to virginia including pennsylvania, new jersey, and delaware. one of the unions representing workers says despite being a profitable company, verizon continues to eliminate security and drive down their standard of living. that union says "we are not going to take it, will keep the fight going while we're on the job." verizon that the company's disappointed that the groups did not come to an agreement and that the union proposals are unrealistic and out of touch in today's marketplace. this weekend family and friends are remembering the three victims who were passengers in this crash that philadelphia police are calling a case of street racing. the community came together for a vigil last night at the scene of the crash near red lion road in bustleton. there they remembered 17-year-old yvette gonzalez, and 20-year-old felip hernandez. the family members of the third victim, sabrina rhoads, tell us the circumstances of this incident are heartbreaking. great kid, man. 17 years old. she had everything ahead of her. she was going in the right direction. >> police say new surveillance video shows two cars going at a high rate of speed before the crash. investigators have some new information on the second car that took off from the scene. they believe it's a dark blue or black bmw. police are trying to track down the driver and passengers inside that car. this morning, a 17-year-oldcritically injured in a hit and run crash has been upgraded to stable. the teen was crossing westminster street in west philadelphia around 1:30 yesterday morning when a gold buick lesabre hit him and took off. about an hour later officers stopped a similar vehicle, a vehicle matching that description reckless driving. that's when they spotted the car's heavy windshield damage and determined this was the car involved in the hit and run. the driver was arrested for driving under the influence. more charmings could be pending. family members and friends gathered yesterday in philadelphia to honor the life of a man who was killed during a hit and run crash last weekend. francis arroyo was in a car with his brother when an suv crashed into them and did not stop. arroyo leaves behind a pregnant fiance and two sons. police found the suv and know who it belongs to but are still investigating who year that killed philadelphia inquirer co-owner lewis katz. according to the owner, the plane had a flaw at high speeds, and that allowed it to take off. but gulf stream airspace corporation blames the may 2014 crash on the crew's actions. in total seven people were killed in the crash. the faa is working with gulf stream on design changes for the 500 planes still in service. coming up action police officer is dead after a gunman opened fire during a traffic stop. the gunman struck the officer multiple times. right now a manhunt is underway for the shooter. police identified the slain officer as 33-year-old sean bolton. right now a manhunt is underway for the shooter. in baltimore, a commission was formed by leaders to review homicides in the city but it has stalled. officials claim baltimore's top prosecutor is not sharing information needed for the program to work. last year the city spent $200,000 on the commission which was meant to bring together police, politicians and public health workers to identify violent trends and how to work on them and respond to them. just last months baltimore recorded its highest monthly murder rate in more than four decades. the fight to stop a massive wildfire out west in california turned deadly this weekend. south dakota engine captain david rules died battling one of more than 20 major fires burning across the state. death of cecil the lion killed in zimbabwe. officials have suspended the hunting of lions, leopards in the area where cecil was killed. crews are also investigating the killing of another lion in april that may have been illegal. they only received information about that killing this week. the announcements follow international outcry and a call to bring the american who killed cecil to justice. zimbabwean authorities say the hunt was illegal, and are now seeking the extradition of walter palmer, a dentist from minnesota. in wichita kansas a 9-year-old bat boy for an amateur baseball team is in critical condition after he was hit in the head by a bat. this happened yesterday afternoon when kaiser carlyle ran on to the field to retrieve a bat. witnesses say he got too close to a player who was warming up. that player didn't notice the boy and accidentally hit him during a practice swing. >> hit him in the helmet. knocked him down. he got back up. but he went right back down again. everybody came out and helped him. >> an ambulance rushed kaiser to the hospital. he is now being treated in the intensive care unit. the time right now, 7:26 on this sunday. preparing for the they expect this level of inconvenience, so they will deal with it. if you are traveling in to see the pope those special passes with the lottery only work for a few stations. one of them is the chestnut hill west line. that's one station you will have to use to try to get into center city. during theal alpapal visit rail service will be restricted to 18 stations outside the city and trains will express into three stations here's in the morning and express back out in the evening. we caught up with one of the people who plans to head into philadelphia but ron jones says he is going to use his bicycle and bias in from kensington. >> nuts but, hey, pope's a popular guy. people like him. it would probably be crazier if they made all the stops. >> a fugueew weeks ago septa tried to agencies are deciding which services might stop or if workers must be laid off. some counties may front the money and some workers may go unpaid. this is the third time in 12 years that social services are feeling the effects of budget deadlock. today dozens of teens from around the world will gather in delaware county to call for peace. the teens all share a common bond, they each lost a family member due to an act of terrorism. they will speak at a news conference happening at floon today, and then participate in peace games. those games will focus on team work and leadership. also happening today, eagles fans will welcome another football season. players will hold their firsting camp practice later on this morning. certainly a busy off season. some big names have moved on. others have moved in. one big unanswered question remains, what to do with quarterback. sam bradford and mark sanchez are expected to fight for the job, but the birds also have tim tebow. nbc 10 is training camp, the eagles shipped out a major contributor on defense, brandon boykin who has been traded to the steelers for a fifth round draft pick. boykin was drafted in the fourth round in 2012 but was relegated to playing in the slot rather than the outside because of his height. he's only 5'10". his interception in the 2015 division finale clinched the division against the cowboys. boykin pick up the robot. it was headed across country, then yesterday the creators were sent an image of the robot and it was damaged beyond repair while in philadelphia. they say they don't know who launch a campaign, but that decision may not happen until after this month. talks about biden's possible run for the white house were put on hold earlier this year while his son, beau biden, battled cancer. he died in may. vice president biden may run, donald trump says he is in it to win it. the controversial republican candidate will be one of the guests on nbc's "meet the press" this morning. joining us for a preview is moderator of "meet the press," chuck todd. >> trump has angered democrats with his campaign that's expected, but managed to offend members of his own party and is gaining popularity. is this part of a master strategy or what? >> i don't know if there is a master strategy to trump. that has a lot of folks in the campaigns that are competing with trump scratching their heads. he is not playing by conventional rules, by conventional campaign tactics. that makes it hard to prepare to deal with him. and you'll see, we have a lot of focus this morning on both that debate and, of course, the news about joe biden. i will have trump on. how do you prepare to debate trump, how is trump preparing to debate. i'm curious about how donald trump will debate himself. we know who eight of the candidates will be who will get the final two spots, new polling out this morning will indicate which of the three big state governors, all of whom seem to be vying for two of the last three spots, which is most likely to be left off the stage. >> of course we should mention the first national gop debate is coming up this week. it's a packed field. to be determined who will be there. while i still have you, talk to us about this latest news from joe biden, from the vice president. >> well, look you know the -- it all began with an antidote in this morning's "new york times" that indicated there was sort of a death bed ask that boeau biden made of his father that he wanted him to run. all reporting is that many of his family members have been pushing for him to run. the only one we don't know about is his wife. biden himself said for four months he will make a decision at the end of the summer. my reporting indicates that people close to biden say the new york times is hyping things up. but that said there will be a big vacation before labor day and that's where they will have a conversation about where his head is at and whether or not he wants to do
