Acres. The fire charred 24 homes and threatening 5,000 more. Also only 5 contained. A total of 12,000 people are out of their homes because of evacuation orders. Other here were seeing flames in excess of 100 feet. Now the rocky fire is one of more than 20 major fires burning in the state right now. Lets take a look at the map so you can get a handle on how many fires firefighters are contending with. California is under a state of emergency because of these fires. Meanwhile firefighters gaining the upper hand on this battle. This one rage in the Sierra National forrest. The willow fire about 50 miles knot of fresno. Burned 5600 acres so far. Hundreds of evacuated families can now begin to head back home at 9 oclock tonight. The fire is 60 contained but with more than 2,000 firefighters on the job, teams are confident theyre be out soon. Theyve burned more than 100,000 acres of land, destroying homes and roads along the way. We have more. Fires are burning all along the west coast but the worst hit area is northern california. The largest fires burning north of San Francisco where it has destroyed two dozen homes. Day and night firefighters are racing against the clock trying to contain wildfires blazing in california, washington and oregon. Doomsday, thats what it looked like. The flames are fueled by lightning, trees and high temperatures. We have seen a couple of spot fires and those escalate, got pretty big and took up the mountain.
