forecast. good morning, this is nbc 10 news today. thanks for being with us. i'm rosemary connors. it is 7:00. what is the weather going to do, because we know there will be parades, barbecues, parties. let's check in with meteorologist erika martin. good morning. >> good morning. lots going on this weekend, this holiday weekend and it looks like we're tracking them. notice on satellite, it is denoting the green there, cumberland county, also cape may county. i don't expect it to be a wash-out, it just won't be completely dry. lots of clouds in the forecast for today. so i advise to get on outside nice and early. early sun shoon ashine, notice the clouds and how dark. this tells me we do have plenty of moisture in the atmosphere, so i do expect the isolated showers and more rain in the forecast likely for tomorrow. be sure you follow us on social media, your day for today, new jersey, we're talking about averages here, a couple of spots of sunshine throughout the day. but mainly lots of clouds developing and notice a shift in the winds south westerly and we do have an increase in the dew points as the day progresses and your day across fephiladelphia. more information coming up in the ten-day forecast. >> thanks, erika. it is day seven of the wawa america festival. today, a massive block party and special concert is planned. matt delucia is live this morning on independence mall to fill us in. matt. >> reporter: rosemary, the year is transforming before our eyes, because of a block party going on in just a few hours. i am going to step out of the way, can you see the crews from the city, setting up stages and tents. this entire area will be cordoned off and you can come with your family to enjoy food, fun, music, all sorts of festivities. that begins at 1:00. it will last for seven hours. free admission. it's going to be between 5th and 6th street from market to chestnut. 20 food trucks, two music stations, and all of it, among the street ours forefathers walked. a 65 piece orchestra tonight, two local musicians straight from broadway and the pops tell us this will be a traditional performance. they're going to be very busy, though. they were doing a lot of reh rehearsa rehearsals. they'll have one tomorrow morning and then one leading off into the fireworks. >> this is about patriotism, all the tunes you know and bringing the focus back to philadelphia the cradle of liberty. we're very happy to be part of that. >> reporter: all right, so take a look here. the run down of events today for wawa welcome america. the historic philadelphia block party from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. the philly pop also take the stage after that. also good to mention here, while we're talking about free things you can do, it is free museum day at the barnes foundation and pay as you wish over at the philadelphia museum of art. let's take another live look, the place where it all began really. it is fairly empty right now. we have some decent weather, and hopefully it will be later on. we've got a lot of events here today. a hub of activity over the next 24 to 36 hours in old philadelphia. live at independence mall this morning, i'm matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> thanks, matt. the u.s. army band concert, thrilled crowds at penn's landing last night. nbc 10 was there, as thousands of people packed the water front. many of them arrived hours ahead of time, and they had to get their chairs set up, stake out a spot. the holiday concert honored our troops, so it gave special meaning to the evening. all part of the wawa welcome america celebration. the stage is literally set for the big wawa welcome america july 4th concert. here is a live look over the ben franklin park way. the music starts tomorrow at 5:00 in the afternoon. that's a little bit earlier than in years past. keep that in mind. 5:00 monday afternoon. you get fire hours of free live music. you can also watch it right here on nbc 10. we'll bringing you this spectacular fireworks show as well. it follows at 10:00. there is a lot of work that goes into the wawa welcome america festivities during tomorrow's independence parade, they'll be bringing both philly and pride to the parade route. drew smith caught up with the construction crews for a preview. >> reporter: every measurement has to be made just right on eight different floats. >> i still want to cut these poles. >> todd is the independence day producer. >> it really is the most special fourth of july in the entire country. >> reporter: his crew is busy making sure each display will be ready to roll. in front of 80,000 people monday morning. and they know the significance of this parade route. >> there is not one other parade in the entire country can process in front of the exact building where the declaration of independence was signed. >> reporter: each of the floats this year promote something with a strong connection back to philadelphia this one is for the ame church on found him just before 5:00, the man in his 30s had been shot in the chest. so far, no arrests in this case. now to news from jersey shore bureau. a boating accident killing the father and 8-year-old son t happened yesterday afternoon in somers point. here is a pick tufrt picture of skis. the father and son who were killed were from maryland. investigators say the boy was closest to the controls, a woman on the other jet ski was injured. she broke her wrist in the accident. we are now into day three of the worker's strike at the trump casino in atlantic city. union employees walked off the job on friday. they began picketing, that they say restores their insurance and pension plan. this could be a busy day forecafor casinos. some things change, but some stay the same. the popular egg mcmuffin. we'll tell you how the classic sandwich is helping mcdonald's. septa, how it could impact your commute, later this week. good morning, i'm meteorologist erika martin. all about the extra clouds building today and the scattered showers farther south and what to expect for july 4th. wind speeds, notice variable right now. really important, because we'll start to see a southerly shift, which means more clouds in the forecast and the threat of isolated showers, cumberland and cape may counties. as we get it going, notice how much stronger they get, certainly nothing crazy like we saw yesterday, which means increasing dew points, a little muggier. the clouds are building quickly. they are a little dark right now. that tells me we have rain showers possibly in the forecast for tomorrow early. of course, would he'll be tracking that on social media. current temperatures in the 60s, topping out in the 80s. i'll see you in a bit. >> thank you, erika. cape may will hold its presumptive democratic nominee about her use of a private e-mail server when she was secretary of state. nbc's chris pallone has the details. >> reporter: no campaign appearances saturday for hillary clinton or donald trump. both had other business to take care of. clinton, spending three and a half hours at fbi headquarters in washington, speaking with investigators about her use of a private e-mail server while she was secretary of state. the year long investigation is looking into whether anyone broke the law by mishandling information. aft the interview, she spoke with nbc's chuck todd. >> i was pleased to sit down and answer their questions today to try to help bring this to a conclusion. >> reporter: interview comes a daf at loretta lynch said she would let the career prosecutors decide the case, after critics slammed her during a chance airport encounter this week. >> i certainly wouldn't do it again, and you know, because i think it has cast a shadow. >> republican donald trump has lynched on the meeting. >> he happened to be at the airport it. just think about it. he was talking about goth alf a grandchildren. >> house speaker newt gingrich are said to be on the short list. >> we discussed it, but again, we're not placing any emphasis on that. that's his call. he has to make up his mind. we'll see what happens. >> reporter: republican national convention opens in a nice and early, enjoy it. we do have clouds developing quickly, from south to north. and the threat of isolated showers, spotty at best, for parts of cumberland county, cape may county as well, including kent and suffolk county. satellite and radar image picking up on the showers, hugging the area. notice, we're not seeing much make it to the ground right now, but we are seeing the thick, soupy clouds, denoting we have some isolated showers on the way. a live look outside, you can see how thick the clouds are getting already. a little darker, notice here, that's more moisture in the atmosphere. a soupier day in the forecast. increasi increasing dew points. tem tours are mainly in the 60s. delaware, mid 60s. already, building throughout the day, and we're going to see lots of low to mid 80s, a few upper 70s along the shoreline, not the warmest day in the forecast, but no the as brees zy as it was yesterday. futurecast important. i'm going start this at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. notice how they continue to work their way from west to east and then by tomorrow afternoon, we see the threat of more showers working their way in, right now, models are not in agreement. so of see changes on tuesday. they're taking one-third of the trains out of service immediately. all daybreak fast has seemed to serve as a lifesaverer for mcdonald's, and the driving force, the egg real kick. >> while the recipe hasn't changed in the last 45 years, the ingredients are getting upgrades. real butter, extra lean canadian bacon and by the year 2025, they say they'll only use cage free eggs in nearly all of the 16,000 restaurants in the u.s. and canada. >> cage free eggs is really an animal rights issue. it is not so important for public health or health of individuals, but for some people, it is pretty important. >> reporter: fast food giant also wants to move to chickens raised without antibiotics, and testing fresh beef instead of frozen. but can they afford to make the ingredient changes and still keep profits up for shareholders? analysts say yes. >> a lot of the protein prices right now are heading the right way for them so they can afford it. the most important back to nbc 10 news today. i'm rosemary connors. okay, let's check in with meteorologist erika martin. she has everything we need to know. i hate to say it, erika. >> i know. we do have the showers on approach. this has been packed up by satellite and radar. notice the greens moving into cape may county, so unfortunately, the beach is getting cloudy quickly. the southerly flow is pushing in everything in a lot faster. saw sunshine earlier. unfortunately, that's going to be as good as it gets. we'll see a little break in the clouds. mainly northerly winds, but then they're going to shift sortly, so the clouds will increase, dew points increasing, and i muggier night in the forecast with overnight lows in the 60s and 70s. wilmington, look at the clouds developing. as i mentioned, a break in the clouds by this afternoon. otherwise, the big story is spotty showers for today and really what to expect by tomorrow, july 4th, it looks like lots of clouds in the forecast and threat of everything ready over the past couple of hours. i'll step out of the way. you can see the crews setting up the stages, tent, everything they need for a seven hour long block party that starts at 1:00 today. you see some of the workers setting up some of the barriers, because the entire area, 5th and 6th, market to chest net, will be cordoned off for the block party. they have food trucks, and everything that will be fun for the entire family. of course, later on tonight, can't forget this, 8:00, per forp man -- performance by the philly pops. a traditional performance, the pops tell us. they're going to be very busy. they have a performance tonight and twice tomorrow. one in the morning and again, they'll be leading into the fireworks. 65 piece orchestra, and tonight, it will feature 10 app. in other news this morning, we're expecting an update later on today from septa about the plans to take a third of its trains off the rails. there is a structural problem making them dangerous and it needs to be repaired. come tuesday morning when you are heading back to work, there will be changes to the septa schedule. official also outline the change this is afternoon. the transit agency needs to repair about 120 new silverliner train cars. representative from the delaware association of rail passengers spoke to us via skype yesterday. he told us septa briefed him on the specific problem with the train cars. take a listen. >> the problem with the cars is in the trucks, which are the a assemblies that hold the ex als. an inspection on some of the cars found some structural defects. >> septa tells us that this issue should not effect monday's fourth of july train schedule. we do have more information on the train model involved in this problem, right now, on the nbc 10 app. definitely have the nbc 10 app handy this afternoon, because we'll be bringing you the latest after the news conference later on today. happening right now, most road projects fund bid new jersey transportation fund are being stopped. that's because a proposed hike in the gas tax was not passed by the state senate, so ghoovernor chris christie ordered to stop road. the state assembly approved the bill that would increase the gas tax by 23 cents a gallon. in return, the sales tax would gradually have dropped 1% and the tax on retirement income would be eliminated. 7:38 right now on this stories including a.m. sunshine, but clouds developing very quickly. isolated showers for the southern portion of the area, so keep that in mind especially for you in cumberland county, as well as cape may county. current temperatures are very mild. i don't expect to warm up at least until tuesday, wednesday time frame. allen town, 63, bilon, 64, and trenton, mid 60s. so again, not the warmest start and wind speeds, notice how messy they are. 0 at philly. not much with winds. this afternoon, this is the key right here, this is going to be the weathermaker. we have a low pressure system, all of this low southerly air, and the clouds will continue to increase and as the clouds develop, i want you to take a look up there, you see them developing very low and getting dark quickly. so your forecast for today, by 2:00 p.m., lots of clouds in the forecast, temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s in philadelphia. in the suburbs, same for today. in fact, tomorrow, and then warming up by tuesday, jersey shore, i have this icon with the threat of isolated showers, not going to be a wash-out. but not going to be a completely dry day. and satellite and radar image picking up on the greens here, tell us we do have the showers moving in. notice, they're not that dark. no heavy downpours. the lighter green, just scattered showers at best. but certainly a cloudy day, nonetheless. lows for tonight, warm out there, 71 for philadelphia, trenton, 67, and keeping it in the upper 60s to low 70s. all of the clouds will be keeping us warm throughout the overnight hours. rosemary. thank you, appreciate it. hillary clinton's sit down with the fbi, donald trump's search for a running mate and how isis is impacting the race for the white house. nbc's "meet the", and moderator chuck today. good morning, chuck. good morning, rosemary. >> anybody who thought this would be an uneventful holiday weekend for the candidates, definitely mistaken. yesterday, the fbi interviewed hillary clinton about her use of an e-mail server, we've been following this throughout the campaign. you spoke with her exclusively right afterward. how is she portraying the interview and is her campaign in real trouble here? >> well, she a said it was pretty business like. i think they seem fairly confident about how it went or we wouldn't have heard from her to be honest. but obviously they're hoping that the interview means they're nearing the end of the investigation, and you know, that's probably the case. but the question is going to be, what does exoneration do if she is. if she is not, she has problems. but she still has problems even if she is. the bill clinton meeting with attorney general loretta lynch on the tarmac, that reenforced the notion that perhaps even exx exoneration from the fbi doesn't mean it was done on the up and up. so this trust issue hangs over her head. more voters in our polling believe trump is more honest and straightforward than she is. and e-mails have a lot to do with that. >> all right, chuck, speaking of trump, we've been hearing and it appears as though he is vetting new jersey chris christie and former house speaker newt gingrich as possible running mates. what are you hearing about the veep spot? >> well, he meet yesterday with a third that's in the final three, indiana governor, mike pen pence, who social conservatives i think would get pretty excited about, and that's apart of the republican party that has been among the most skeptical of trump. so trump could end up going with a pence in order to shore it up. but one thing that's working against pence is this idea that maybe he doesn't have enough star power for trump. trump likes a -- wants a big star as his partner, and that's why a chris christie, who someone he views as loyal, could end up being on the ticket or newt gingrich, both who have national personas. the one thing we need to keep an eye on, the timing could come soon, county as well as cumberland county looked like they were going to get isolated showers, and this is another look outside. we can get clouds in there, well, it is already looking gloomy. that's really the story, it is not going to be a washout today, but we have those showers already on the approach, and unfortunately, it is not going to be a completely dry sunday in the forecast, and satellite radar images picking up the showers a lot quicker. a lot of times these systems move quicker than something will peg it. this is what we're watching for. this is why i recommend people following us on
