if you should be so fortunate to be off on a wednesday, head down the shore, it's going to be a nice day. let's get right to nbc 10 first alert meteorologist bill henley who has the neighborhood forecast. >> it will be clearing out nicely. a beautiful day today. we're still dealing with lingering clouds and fog in the area. the fog is spreading and getting thicker. dense fog for quakertown and blue bell, light fog in hazleton, half a mile visibility. not an issue for northeast philadelphia or philadelphia international but toms river getting some fog. visibility has just dropped down to under a mile in atlantic city and under three miles in millville. that's to start with. the fog, though, will disappear. it has gotten thicker in just the last half hour in the lehigh valley. that's easton this morning. sunshine will warm temperatures from the 60s into the 70s and a warmup will make the fog disappear. low clouds over the city. those are already starting to thin out. that's the view looking across the delaware from the adventure aquarium. look at that. 80 degrees. that's by 8:00 this afternoon. it will be a warmup noon. typical summer weather. 85 degrees for delaware and the lehigh valley. even warm at the shore. it's 86 inland, 81 degrees at the shore with clearing skies there. 87 this afternoon. the temperatures going up but wind that will be blowing during the day will make it more comfortable as the day goes on. we'll take a look at that when i'm back in ten minutes. right now, jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> we're watching 202. could start to see sun glare depending on the direction you're moving. a six-minute drive time northbound from this point on route 29. average speeds, it says into 70s. don't go that fast. 495 in delaware headed northbound from the on and off ramp, those are closed until the 30th. that's right around exit 4. maybe some delays or detours throughout the area for you there. also 422 we're watching that. eastbound right now, not seeing those delays yet. eight minutes from 29 to the schuylkill. vai? >> jessica, thank you. new from overnight, police are looking for the person who stabbed and tried to rob a cab driver during a vial enent ride in camden. nbc 10's katy zachry is live for us at cooper hospital. we learned that good samaritans jumped in to help the driver. tell us more. >> they did, vai. family members recently told me that juan fortuna is lucky to be alive. he was stabbed seven times in the shoulder by a passenger who was trying to rob him. the own i reason it seems the attack stopped is because eyewitnesses rushed in to help. take a look at this video. family members say this is the cab that fortuna was driving just before midnight when he was attacked. they say the long-time cab driver, had picked up a man outsued a 7-eleven in east camden and was dropping him off at a public housing complex across town. that's when the passenger pulled out a knife and demanded money. >> he wassive gooding him the money. he didn't pay attention to the money. he all of a sudden started stabbing my brother. from that point forward my brother crashed into another car and the neighbors started coming out and tried to help my brother. >> and those eyewitnesses helped even more because a woman that was in the group, they weren't waiting around for the ambulance to come. she grabbed fortuna who was severely injured, put him in the back of her suv and brought him hospital behind me where doctors were able to work on him pretty quickly. we're told he's up, talking and is expected to be released over the next few days. this is not the first time the cab company fortuna works for has had a driver who has been stopped. i'll tell you whattive drooers, especially at night, do to keep themselves safe. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a row home fire in germantown section. the fire started about 3:45 this morning and spread through the first and second floors of his home. neighbors tell us the victim was badly burned. 6:05. 70 degrees outside. less than 24 hours after a deadly terror attack in turkey, the istanbul airport is back open and although the airport is open, investigators are combing through the deadly scene, searching for clues. yesterday's blast left 36 people dead and injured dozens of others. turkish officials say an iranian and ukrainian are among the victims. there's no word yet on other nationalities. the united states is offering help to turkey to investigate the suicide attacks. the airport bombing is sending shock waves through the turkish community in philadelphia. nbc 10 spoke to someone who has family in istanbul. he says his family is doing okay but they're heart broken. he moved to philadelphia just last week and he says he used the same airport that was attacked. >> the one been killed by the bombs could be my family as well. could be my daughter. could be my wife. could be myself. >> ahead in our next america's fight to find a cure for cancer comes to philadelphia today. fox chase cancer center will hold a summit. vice president joe biden will attend the summit. president obama chose biden to lead the moonshot effort to accelerate cancer research. talks are scheduled to continue today but the president of the unite here local 54 said yesterday a strike on friday in atlantic city is, quote, likely against at least one of the five gaming halls if they can't agree on a new labor contract. the union represents more than 6,000 workers at harrah's, bali's, caesar's, tropicana and trump taj mahal. signs of a possible workout became more clear yesterday. >> i'm hoping something comes to a resolution and if not, i'm more than ready to go out. >> the union wants higher pay for workers and the return of benefits that it gave up a few years back -- a few years ago when the casinos were struggling. former eagles head coach buddy ryan is gone but his legacy lives on and in the hearts and minds of his players and fans. he died yesterday at the age of 85. here's a look at the cover of this morning's "daily news," the headline reading "our buddy our pal." he's known as the architect of one of the greatest nfl defenses of all time. after winning the super bowl with the bears in 1985, ryan then became the head coach of the eagles in 1986 taking them into the playoffs in thee of his five seasons.ç i had a chance to talk to randall cunningham from las vegas. he spoke about the special connection he had with his former head coach. >> i had a coach who didn't care what everybody else thought. he was more concerned about us as his children. that was a blessing. >> buddy is a blue collar guy i thought everybody could relate to. that everybody could -- you know, he could be your uncle or uncle ned that everybody talks about. buddy ryan could be that guy. >> he was the embodiment of what we used to refer to as the 700 level fans. he was, in three words, in your face. >> buddy areas of fog. most of the fog, the thickest fog is in pennsylvania. during the day today we'll see clearing skies and the humidity drops, making for a warm but a comfortable day today. and clearing the way for a clear and pleasant evening. this evening, the temperatures will drop into the 70s. right now, 60s and 70s. just dropped down to 69 degrees in philadelphia. still lingering clouds in new jersey and at the shore. while the suburbs are at 63 degrees and the lehigh valley, too, the sun is up. but there is still fog in the area. these temperatures will be destined for the 80s this afternoon. right now 63 degrees in west kallen township. collegeville is 64 and 67 in bensalem. the clouds from the storms yesterday have moved offshore. those showers will not repeat today. but we will see more wet weather before we get to the holiday weekend. just not today. fog clears out, sunshine nice and bright. a few scattered clouds riding in on winds out of the northwest. 88 degrees this afternoon at somerton. the pennsylvania suburbs will see 80s this afternoon. partly sunny skies, a bit of fog in easton. that won't last either. sunshine and nice and warm in the lehigh valley. new jersey, the winds northwesterly will allow temperatures to warm into the 80s and even 80s at the shore. while wilmington is going to be up to 85 degrees, smyrna will see 86 degrees with plenty of sunshine today. seven-day forecast, at the bottom of the screen, does show wet weather come friday. i'll take you through the forecast hour by hour to show you when the showers and thunderstorms will move in. a look at the holiday weekend, too, right on through the fourth of july when i'm back with the ten-day outlook. >> oh, yes, the holiday weekend. that's coming up. >> 6:11 right now. let's get a look at 95 this morning. >> jessica boyington has that. where on 95, jess? >> we're watching 95 approaching the vine street expressway and ben franklin bridge area. that will be at an earlier disabled vehicle. for the most part it's clear. there is police activity on the scene there. this is headed southbound right now. this is over into the shoulder. you can see there's no delay of traffic or gaper delay by that scene just because of it. definitely something to watch out for. it's mostly clear there. there is an accident in franconia, godshall road and lower road. the schuylkill expressway not seeing big problems or delays yet. eastbound and westbound, we're still in the green and 13 minutes, no increase there yet. eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway. and speeds are still into the really high 50s. no problems right now heading in or out of center city. i'll have another update for you on your morning drive when i'm back in tenç minutes. jackpot started. >> we're at st. mary medical center. they got a $5,000 donation to install these cameras of their own at the nicu. a woman from our area has been on a mission to get these cameras into every hospital she can. kelly gallagher started this superhero project two years ago after the birth of her twin boys. she couldn't stand being away from them when they had to stay in the hospital. she started researching a way for parents to keep an eye on their newborns. she started with holy redeemer hospital. >> i think in 10 to 15 years it will be the standard base of care. i think in 10, 15 years it will be the standard basic care. then they realize it's not just mom or dad, it's the entire family, these cameras will change the way that health care is served. >> when we couldn't be there, we could logon, day or night and find out how he's doing. >> almost all of the funding for these cameras comes through donations. only a handful of hospital in our area even have something similar to this. the hope is to change that very quickly. live in langhorne this morning, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. people in montgomery county are call on the real-life erin brockovich to help them with their contamination water concerns. >> the best thing you can do right now is know your information. >> brockovich spoke via skype at upper moreland high school in horsham township. horsham is one of three communities in bucks and montgomery counties where chemicals used in firefighting foam at former military bases may have leached into the water supply. residents watch the to know if their illnesses are connected to that and who will be responsible. >> i'm hard working and will not leave here without a job. >> brockovich became famous after julia roberts won an oscar playing her and tracy, right around the atlantic city expressway. if you're heading down the shore, no big problems or delays. you can see it headed southbound right there. headed northbound into philadelphia, no big delays yet. of course more cars heading in that direction. either way, the 42 freeway looking okay or at least pretty typical. watching construction, this is over in new jersey as well. route 130 between 322 and route 44. still watching an accident in franconia on godshall road. foggy conditions, reduced visibility in some parts of the area. as you can see, it's not really affecting the roads right now. we'll have more updates as volume increases when i come back. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> the sun is up. we're seeing some bright sunshine in parts of the area. there's still some regions seeing lingering fog. it's starting to improve. quakertown was down to zero visibility. now two-mile visibility. blue bell is getting dense fog to start with. the visibility is improving now in toms river. now a mile and a quarter when it was downç to quarter mile. improving conditions also for atlantic city. the improvement comes from a little bit of wind and some sunshine, too. the temperatures are starting to climb. we will see clearing skies and with the breeze blowing today, those west/northwesterly winds, that's dry air coming in. the fog won't last. with winds coming in this direction, it's going to be warm even at the shore today. we'll warm into the 80s this afternoon. satellite and radar shows it's already clear above the fog, north and west and we will be in for a nice sunny day today and clear skies again tomorrow. but over the next few days we'll be watching to the south for the return of showers. they will be bubbling up in virginia, into the carolinas, over the next couple days while we're enjoying sunshine. then come friday morning, watch what's going on. the showers into virginia and west virginia will be moving into central pennsylvania. first thing friday morning. then during the day, we'll see showers and thunderstorms in philadelphia. the potential for heavy downpours, that's at 2:00 friday afternoon. until then, we'll be enjoying sunshine. the fog, the clouds will all move out. sunny and 87 degrees this afternoon. comfortable, even though it will be warm, the humidity drops today. that makes for a pleasant evening this evening and another nice day tomorrow. but the heat is on and the humidity is back. here comes the chance of showers and thunderstorms for friday. a hot day on saturday but the holiday weekend will see improving conditions. sunday 86 degrees. the fourth of july, monday, up to 88. and then on tuesday we're back into the heat and heat and humanity, typical for july, will be on display. we have a heat wave drew. might get a shower or thunderstorm to bring the temperatures down thursday afternoon briefly but then back into the 90s on friday. enjoy today. and was shot on white house grounds. a 31-year-old schuylkill county man walked toward the white house with a handgun. secret service officers told him to stop and drop the gun. he ignored the command and continued walking. he was shot and arrested. he survived. proponents turned in more than enough signatures to place the question of legalizing marijuana on the ballot in november. you'd be allowed to grow up to six marijuana plants for personal use. smoking the drug would remain off limits in places where tobacco use is already prohibited. and happening today, president obama will visit canada's capital city of ottawa for the north american leader's summit. he'll meet with the canadian program and mexico's president. later in the day, president obama will have a one-on-one meeting with the canadian leader. routine cab fare turned violent in camden after a passenger stashed the driver. we'll have an update on the driver's condition and explain how strangers played a role in getting him fog in the area. it's not going to last. look at the sunshine in king of prussia. 71 degrees at 9:00. by lunch time, 77 degrees. z seeing a good deal of sunshine in wilmington, frawley stadium, 73 degrees at 9:00. up to 80 degrees at lunch time. for philadelphia, a quick warmup as well. the clouds are thinning out. by 11:00, 80 degrees. into the upper 80s this afternoon for philadelphia, 87 degrees with mostly sunny skies, 84 with fog clearing in the lehigh valley. you could see breaks of sunshine right now in easton and 85 in delaware. even warm at the shore today. inland areas will warm to 86. 81 degrees for the jersey shore. we'll go through the forecast hour by hour for each part of our area when i'm back in ten minutes. let's find out how the traffic is moving or if it's moving. jessica boyington has first alert traffic. jessie? >> we're moving bill, but we're moving slowly. this is 95 around cottman avenue. the northbound direction, no delay that way. sun glare to watch out for. southbound we're worried about, especially this time of morning. we're starting to see the big slowdowns into center city. southbound from woodhaven road into the vine street expressway and speeds dropping into the 40s as the average. still watching that accident in franconia, godshall road and lower road. this is route 70 around kings highway. not a lot of cars in the area. definitely parts of cherry hill off of route 70 or 38 dealing with reduced visibility because of the sun glare. watching the area bridges, heading over into philadelphia. no problems on the burlington bristol or the tacony palmyra at least in terms of openings. new from overnight, police are look for the person who stabbed a cab driver seven times during a violent ride in camden. nbc 10's katy zachry is live at cooper university hospital. katy, what can you tell us? >> tracy, not long ago relatives of the injured cab driver walked out of cooper university hospital behind me relieved that their brother will be okay. he was stabbed by a violent passenger trying to rob him and that attacker probably would have got an way with it if it hadn't been for good samaritan who stepped in. this is video of the cab that 41-year-old juan fortune thwas driving. he picked up a man at a 7-eleven in camden and was dropping him off at a housing complex when that passenger pulled out a knife, demanding money and started stabbing fortuna. here's what the victim's brother who's also a cab driver said they try to do to stay safe. >> we try not to pick up people from the street unless you call. we make sure we have the right address, that you come out of the right address. you try your best but at the end of the day, it happens. >> one of the witnesses who ran over to the cab to assist in any way, she put the injured cab driver in the back of her suv and drove him here to cooper university hospital. i'm told he is okay. he's in stable condition and should be released in the next day or so. as for the person who did this, we've reached out to camden police. we're still waiting to hear who that person is and where he might be. reporting live in camden, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. 6:34. 70 degrees outside.ç breaking news on the deadly terror attack in turkey. istanbul's governor says the death toll risen to 41. >> turkish police are going through witness statements to establish a time line. the united states is offering to help turkey investigate the suicide attack. homeland security officials are looking at vulnerabilities at airports and other public places here at home as the july fourth holiday approaches. turkey's prime minister says his security forces believe isis is responsible. >> now from our delaware bureau, a hearing will happen today in the cold case murder of a wilmington man. a judge will meet with attorneys to discuss the status of the case against sandra hartzen. she was charged in the 1985 death of joseph braun. officers found braun beaten to death in his home. police officers believe hartzeg was involved in the crime along with a boyfriend who died more than a decade ago. bill cosby could lose another honorary degree, this time at the university of connecticut. the university provost recommended taking back the degree. the comedian denied all the allegations against him. cosby will stand trial for sexually assaulting a woman in his cheltenham home in 2004. this morning we're taking a look back at the life and legacy of former allegheny football coach buddy ryan. ryan died yesterday at the age of 85. he coached in the nfl for 26 seasons. and was the defensive coordinator when the chicago bears claimed their first own only super bowl during the 1985 season before he came to philadelphia. ryan is known as the architect of one of the greatest nfl defenses of all time. he's also known for his mouth. >> i get along with everybody, as long as they do things my way. >> what kind of player is a buddy ryan player? >> i think it's a player that knocks the guy down an laughs at him. >> i never liked the dallas cowboys, period. i never thought i got outcoached by them. i've been beaten by them. >> i would have said something to library. then at 7:00 tonight, catch the screening of "rocky" outside the art museum. that should be fun. last night, families enjoyed the screening of "the good dinosaur" along with snacks and activities. then the kimmel center's pearlman theater hosted a special early screening of "the legend of tarzan." that oóie doesn't hit theaters until friday. it all leads up to the fourth of july celebration on monday, including a parade, concert, fireworks. if you can't make it to these events, no worries. nbc 10 and telemundo 62 will be airing them live throughout the day. 22 minutes before 7:00. now we have sunshine, the clouds just have thinned out nicely. just a few scattered thin clouds in philadelphia. and the areas of fog we've been watching are quickly disappearing. it wasn't foggy in philadelphia. thin clouds, 69 degrees. sunshine takes over the clouds. the winds out of the west/northwest, not terribly strong. just enough to bring in dry air. the humidity will be falling as the temperature goes up. some of the thicker fog was in the suburbs. some of the brighter sunshine will be in the suburbs near 80 degrees at lunch time. 80s this afternoon, the humidity falling in the lehigh valley. lingering clouds. there you can see fog in easton. but sunshine will warm temperatures into the low 70s at 10:00, then into the 80s for the lehigh valley. got a really nice day brewing, even at the shore where temperatures will be warm into the 80s, very low 80s this afternoon. noontime, 79 degrees between noon and 2:00 we should hit 80 degrees. and the wind shifts late this afternoon as the temperatures warm inland. we see the sea breeze kick in. nice day for delaware, too. the skies clear out, sunshine, low 80s by lunch time. for delaware, the winds also bring in that dry air. that's a northwesterly wind at noon. at 12 miles an hour, later this afternoon, by 4:00, 83 degrees. dry today but there's wet weather before the holiday weekend. we'll go through that with speeds into the 30s. the high 30s at that. watching an accident out in montgomery on bethlehem pike and hartmann road. the 42 freeway starting to see delays headed northbound towards the philadelphia area. our camera is on 42 around route 41 in deptford. we're starting to see the slow speeds. some of the traffic coming to a complete stops awell in the left lanes. if you're heading to the shore, no forecast. in today's nbc 10 responds, a family is frustrated over a broking washing machine. there seems to be no fix inside. >> they told us they waited month after month for repairs. here's what happened after they contacted nbc 10 responds for help. >> reporter: mike haggerty says when hisç washing machine firs went on the blink he wasn't that concerned. he tells us that's because he had this warranty through hh gregg to cover the repairs. problem was no one seemed to be able to repair it. >> we had three different service companies come out. >> reporter: haggerty tells us each repair worker's story was the same. >> they had to order more parts. >> reporter: the parts never came but the laundry had to get done. a lot of it, according to haggerty. >> nine loads a week. >> reporter: he says to make that happen took serious planning with family and friends. >> taking advantage of people on vacation so we could go over at night time and do laundry. haggerty says he called hh gregg customer service so many times, he was surprised by what the lady told him. >> the lady looked up my file and said she had 121 phone calls to the service deposit on file. >> reporter: haggerty's next phone call was to nbc 10 responds. after we contacted hh gregg, haggerty says three days later, they called and said come into the store and buy any washing machine you want up to $1,000. >> thank tom wolf says he has concerns about a budge the proposal put together by the statehouse. wolf says the plan as it is won't balance the deficit but he hopes the senate can fix it. the spending plan totals for than $31 billion and includes more money for schools and a tax increase on tobacco products. there are only a few days left until pennsylvania starts the new fiscal year on friday. meantime, after months of warning that money is tight, a delaware budget committee has approved almost $46 million in community grants. the money would go to nonprofits, community agencies and volunteer fire companies. the proposal is $2 million more than what the governor recommended. you will get another chance later this week to try and win a growing mega millions jackpot. no ticket sunny skies for new jersey, middle 80s and look at the shore, into the 80s this afternoon as well, while delaware, bright sunshine and 86 for smyrna, partly sunny to mostly sunny skies in wilmington and 85 degrees. we'll be clear for today and enjoying lots of sunshine tomorrow. the futurecast shows some clouds building to the south over the next couple days. and this is the wet weather that's going to be here before the holiday weekend. the first showers move into central pennsylvania first thing on friday morning. and then as the morning progresses, we go into the afternoon on friday, showers and thunderstorms, sh heavy downpours are likely. friday, not today or tomorrow. sunshine an a quick warmup. 87 degrees this afternoon. warmer tomorrow but the humidity not bad either day. come friday, you'll feel the humidity coming back in. showers and thunderstorms 86 degrees, the high temperature. it's up to 90 on saturday as we dry out for the weekend. it won't be as hot on sunday or the fourth of july. 88 degrees for independence day. looks like a beautiful day and a perfect evening for fireworks and for the concert. by tuesday, we're warming up to 88 degrees. a chance of katy? >> vai, some good samaritans here in camden are being hailed as heroes this morning for rushing in to help a cab driver who was being stabbed. now, relatives of the victim say 41-year-old juan fortuna of five star cab company was attacked just before midnight by a passenger trying to rob him. the attack happened at a public housing complex in north camden where fortunately, neighbors were outside when the stabbing was taking place. they saw it happen. they rushed in to help stop it. one of those witnesses actually drove fortuna, the injured cab driver, here to cooper university hospital where we're told he is in stable condition. again, he's expected to be okay. no word yet from camden police on who the attacker is or where he is. reporting live in camden, katy zachry, nbc
