suspect in jail charged with her murder. police arrested maurice green, they say he gunned down marie buck at her grocery store on christmas eve. marie told police buck's grandson stole a necklace from him worth $5,000 to $10,000. they said green went to the store expecting to see the grandson but wasn't there. people filed into a funeral home for buck's viewing. we spoke to the victim's brother-in-law before the service. >> i feel glad that they got him. but i'm all torn up. it's a hell of a way to die. >> nbc 10 learned this is not maurice green's first brush with the law and he has been arrested more than a dozen times. since 2005 facing a series of drug and theft charges. 4:31 on this friday. pennsylvania lawmakers wan a deal after paying a fraction of nearly $2 million legal bills for the state's pornographic e-mail investigation. the state is trying to negotiate a settlement with the law firm that looked into the scandal. convicted former attorney general kathleen kane called for the report into the investigation. her successor bruce beamer released the report last month and beamer says that report found no inappropriate e-mails that corrupted the state's justice system. a bucks county man accused of cheating russian citizens out of high-end cars at his auto dealership in north jersey. investigators say sergey kapustin stole nearly $2 million from people overseas. the victims say they sent him large amounts of money for used cars, but the vehicles were never shipped or they had already been sold. kapustin is now charged with wire fraud. in atlantic county loved ones and friends cannot wait for a 5-year-old girl and her great grandmother to return home after both were found alive in rural virginia. 71-year-old barbara briley and her great granddaughter la'myra were stranded for days when their holiday road trip took a dangerous turn. the two left their home in mace landing on christmas eve and headed to see relatives in north carolina. but they never made it. a man found them wednesday on his property in din widedy county, virginia. locals say it's easy to wind up lost. both are in the hospital and they are okay. some relatives are with them. we caught up with the boyfriend of one of the relatives and he shared with us that the little girl said about the frightening ordeal. >> they walked out to try to find some help and they couldn't find no one, so they had to stay there. >> la'myra was so scared but she's a tough girl. she's very bright. smart. so she stayed with her grandmother. >> she is one tough little girl. landed in rome. nbc 10 helped them get there and we made a call to american airlines after we heard the band had been waiting at philadelphia international all day. first their plane was delayed and then canceled because of weather. after we -- after we reached out american paid for the band to stay in a hotel in philadelphia and then arranged for them to get on a plane to rome yesterday. they be built on sacred burial ground. the people want to stop the lingo townsend project in lewis. it was approved this month but protesters believe it will ruin water in the area and disrupt a sacred native american burial ground. they're vowing not to give up the fight against the project and say this protest is just the beginning. >> we need to respect and cherish the native american culture and history of delaware. >> sussex county council president responded to the protests saying native americans have never proved the land is a burial ground jo 135 police officers across the country have died in the line of duty in 2016. that's the highest number of officer deaths in five years. according to the national law enforcement officers memorial fund, 64 officers were shot and killed, 21 were ambushed, the group says guns were responsible for the majority of the deaths. other officers lost their lives due to traffic accidents or job related illnesses like heart attacks. six of the fallen officers were women. >> there is a growing disrespect for the rule of law in this country. i think numbers we're reporting today are evidence of that. >> texas has the highest number of officer deaths of any state this year with 17. in our region three officers died in pennsylvania, one of them at the greater correctional institute in montgomery county, two state troopers died in south jersey. no deaths in delaware. earlier this month state trooper frankie williams died in a crash while responding to an emergency. trooper shawn cullen was killed back in march. he was struck and killed at the scene of a car fire in west deptford. >> about 5:45. a follow up to the story we told you about wednesday morning. an 8-year-old north jersey boy was kicked out of the cub scouts for being transgender. now the leader of another scout group is petitioning the regional cub scouts council to see if he can rejoin. joe maldanado was born a girl but identifies as a boy and attended scouts about a month before he was asked to leave. in a statement earlier this month the new jersey council said its programs are for those who are identified as boys on their birth certificate. one of the nation's largest food companies, shifting gears, is sharing bounty with needy families in north jersey. >> goya foods donated $10,000 to the shelter in newark for the holidays. goya is the largest average 33 degrees, but as we go ahead and zoom on in to your neighborhood and take a look at what you can expect when you head out the door, conditions right now are pretty mild. and that's because we do have a westerly flow there. so let's go through jersey and let's see what we have going on as far as current temperatures for your neighborhood. piney hall currently at 34 degrees, shahamong 34, lumbertown 35, florence mid 30s. so all around just seeing mainly 30s. thankfully those westerly winds are keeping everything a little more comfortable. robbinsville 34 degrees. neighborhoods right clouds by midnight but it will be dry. so we're seeing mostly cloudy skies and temperatures for the most part in the 30s. so looks like 36 degrees on average around philadelphia and then it seems like delaware charter school principal is accused of stealing money from his very own school. a grand jury indicted 55-year-old noel rodriguez yesterday. investigators say he em bezeled money from the academy of dover charter school and allegedly stole $5,000 each year between 2011 and 2014. rodriguez faces up to 40 years in prison if he's convicted. an this is not the first problem with delaware charter schools. last year state officials ordered the delaware met charter school in wilmington to close just months after it opened. they said the school's lesson plans and special needs programs did not meet state standards. officials also claim there were concerns about the school's leadership and finances. and wilmington city council asked the state to stop putting charters in the city. they want more say over which schools get approved for wilmington. kwanzaa ends sunday and last night in west philadelphia the founder joined dozens to celebrate the 50th year of the festival. last
