A teen eighther is in stable condition after he was shot during an attempted robbery. Police tell us the 17yearold was in a car with several other people on lawrence street in olney around 1 00 a. M. Two armed men approached the car, announced a robbery and as the 17yearold started to drive away to get away, the robbers fired at the car, hitting him in the shoulder. The teen drove himself to st. Christophers hospital where hes being treated. This morning, a controversy is stirring up between the Catholic Church and lawmakers in harrisburg. The issue, a proposed bill to help child Abuse Victims. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live in center city. Matt, people against this bill are calling it an attack on the church. Explain whats happening. Well, tracy, first off, we can tell you states have either discussed or passed similar bills. New yorks Catholic Church spent more than 2 million fighting this kind of bill there and the effort has worked this far. Now archbishop Charles Chaput is calling on catholics to fight pennsylvanias version of the bill, house bill 1947. It passed in capril, essential what this bill is all about is extending the statute of limitations on claims of sexual abuse. It would allow past victims to file claims up until theyre 50 years of age. Right now the limit is age 30. And it would also eliminate the criminal statute of limitations on future sex abuse cases. Supporters of this bill say it is the right thing to do. Theyre going to hold you accountable for your actions. Specifically for children who have been abused and we dont see any justice served. The philadelphia archdiocese is calling this bill an attack on the church. Archbishop chaput sent a letter through the area parishes saying the church is helping survivors in their healing. The letter calls on parishioners to contact their state senator. The bill is expected to be heard in the state senate in the next couple of weeks. In april, frisby pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges from the deadly attack. The victim, anita cotton, was stabbed to death in the parking lot of a walgreens in hunting park. Police say it happened during a fight involving dozens of people. Friends says cotton was likely walking back home to nicetown from a fourth of july celebration. Jury selection begin today in a deadly workplace stabbing case. Atem is charged with murdering Danny Vasquez in february of last year at a meat plan in the franconia township. Prosecutors say a feud between the two men began when vasquez tried to pull a chair out from atem. The next day, they got into a brawl. A driver is under arrest after Philadelphia Police say he crashed his car and then tried to carjack a truck. Nbc 10 was in feltonville around 8 00 last night. The driver ran off after being involved in a crash, then officers stopped him as he tried to take a truck a few blocks away. No one was seriously hurt. Police in Gloucester County hope you can help solve a cold case murder this morning. Ten years ago today, Desiree Mcgraw was found shot to death behind the jericho Fire Company Building in deptford. It was primary election day. A member of the fire company inspecting the property found mcgraws partially clothed body. Theres now on 8,000 reward. Today, a street in a north jersey town will be closed because of a house explosion over the weekend. This is what it looked like in phillipsburg, Warren County saturday night. Because of the damage, the street will only be open to buses and children walking to school for a few hours this morning. Two people were hurt in the explosion. We had a wind gust clocked at 70 Miles Per Hour in williamstown, Gloucester County, south jersey last night with the those storms. 11 Miles Per Hour out of the southwest right now in wilmington, out of the west in coatesville at 10 Miles Per Hour. 11 Miles Per Hour in philadelphia. Well have some breezy conditions today but not the winds we saw yesterday with that line of storms. Right now, weve got clearing up here to the north and west of philadelphia. Well take you farther out and down here to the south. You can see how far reaching that front really is, stretching down here with a moisture pool into the gulf. This is Tropical Storm colin.
