windows, siding ripped off the house exposing the insulation and the front door gone. the standoff was going on, neighbors close and blocks away were either forced to stay in their houses or kept away by the time we get to saturday. but right now near 80 degrees. it's kind of humid. we have clouds moving in, but this radar and satellite there's no rain with that band of cloud cover. we do have some showers near pittsburgh. those are moving in our direction. they could be affecting us. but way after the draft is over tonight. a few showers coming across the area. and this is the latest model that's just in and keeps slowing this down and leaving the remna remnants of the showers around by 5:00 in the morning. most models do continue to move it past us, so by 6:00 a.m. we're already starting to dry out. it's a warm night, as you can see across the entire area. 70s at 6:00. the low not very low at all. the jersey shore, some leftover thunderstorms at 6:00 a.m. we talk about near told the packed courtroom, quote, the story of eric frein ends today. his death sentence will be automatly appealed to the state supreme court. there's also a moratorium on the death penalty in pennsylvania. it was imposed by governor wolf who would need to sign the death warrant before execution. in south jersey, the ride home won't be as pad as the morning commute on i-295. the north ramp at route 42 is back open after a tractor-trailer overturned causing a mess. the crash sent orange juice and fuel spilling all over the road. the driver is doing okay. in a few hours, the candidates running for district attorney will face-off in a live debate. the event will air live from 7:00 until 8:00. it will reair sunday, may 7th at 3:30. the city's primary is tuesday, may 16th. new details about the large group of kids that took over part of i-66 in center city on sunday. police charged one of the kids organized the event. around 2:00 in the afternoon, hundreds of kids were seen riding dumping his body in those woods. rosemary connors was there when jurors surveyed that site. she joins us now live. >> the prosecution says the key question this this case is whether 3-year-old brendon who was afraid of the dark and never left home alone would take this trail into the woods here and down an e embankment in the middle of the night. while law enforcement kept the site secured, jurors walked this trail to the park where police discovered the body in october 2015. earlier today the jury listened to the testimony of the detective who took photos of the toddler at the scene. >> the pants were reallied down where his buttocks was exposed. >> why would that capture your attention? >> it seems as if he was placed there and that was used as a grip. >> the district attorney's accuses his father to kill the boy to appease a girlfriend. the defense claims the boy may have wandered tr the apartment in the middle of the night and ended up here a quarter mile away. >> can they hold that up. >> reporter: the detective also testified that brendon's socks were clean when police found him, which did not match an experiment investigators later conducted with a 3-year-old girl. she walked the same trail. her socks were muddy and stayed dirty in the creek. in the meantime, the lead investigator the defense highlighted how cooperative he was with police the day of the disappearance offering up his dna and cell phone. >> you asked him three times and e he said no. >> reporter: the detective who took photos at the scene testified that the boy had a bruise on his back and also a scrape to his left elbow. we have yet to hear any medical examiners in the case, but during opening arguments the prosecution said that evidence shows that the boy may have been cho choked you one model that hd the showers over the philadelphia area at 5:00 a.m. earlier. this one has it farther to the south and moving out more qui quickly. and we tend to believe this more likely. and that means we dry out pretty quickly tomorrow. the temperature goes up into the 80s again. lots of sunshine. perhaps a little bit lower humidity. then tomorrow night, things are nice and dry. look at that temperature going up. this computer model shows 90. that would be tying a record. but not exactly 90 at the shore. wind west. that means some soft the shore areas won't be. as cool as today. 81 in allen town. we could see that shower or thunderstorm and long porter. you can see the temperature going up. now the temperatures, the records for saturday, 90 in philadelphia. we're going to be very close. we're dpoing to be very close in atlantic city airport, but not at the beaches. and then sunday subtract 20 degrees on that. public relations nightmare. >> the new policy changes united details about the trooper and the suspect. police shot and killed the 26-year-old this morning investigators say they fired several rounds at lis during a standoff that lasted through the night. windows and doors were blown out. it happened after police say he shot and killed steven ballard in the parking lot of a wawa yesterday. >> now to what we know about his criminal past. >> investigators found gun and drug charges against him in florida. >> started in an early similar way to help the incident. >> they started in a very similar way, but obviously, the oust comes were entirely different. they detail an officer approach a man he suspects of spoking marijuana. a man who had a black and silver handgun tucked into his waistband. police say that man ended up being him. he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a small amount of marijuana. he was sentenced to 12 months of probation. had to pay $223 in it court costs. now it turns out he did notten end up serving all 12 months of that probation. he was granted early termination after serving about half that total amount of time. >> coming up, delaware bureau reporter tells us more about there are the showers in western pennsylvania. part of west virginia. we have southwest winds across the area. that's bringing in the warm air. up to 88 degrees by saturday at 6:00. you see the west wind. watch what happens. the wind shifts. here comes the northeast wind. and now by 6:00 a.m. it's 66. how does it warm up during the day? there's sunday at 5:00 p.m. 65 degrees. remember 5:00 p.m. fence. if it you don't have a ticket to get in the theater, this is about as good as it gets. the art institute of philadelphia student has been waiting for this day since they announced plans to come
