retrieved someone who had been injured. they brought that person in one of these bear cat type vehicles to an ambulance to get medical care. they are still assuming the shooter is nearby, so things are moving very slow and med ical methodically. not clear how many people may be inside the planned parenthood or if anyone is held hostage right now or police would not confirm if perhaps they were looking for more than one shooter at that scene. as far as people working in the area, they have been told to shelter in place as this situation is sorted out. you can see it's a light snow falling there in colorado springs today. the local sheriff and police on the scene. this was the transfer i told you of an injured person that was rescued by the s.w.a.t. team and brought to the ambulance. heard nbc news give an update on this breaking situation in colorado springs. as you heard, a shooter at a planned parenthood clinic has injured at least three officers. police are still trying to get this situation under control. there are an unknown number of people injured and they do not have this shooter in custody. as you heard from lester holt, people there are being told to shelter in place in colorado springs. we will continue to follow new developments and bring you updates throughout this newscast. let's get news here at home, a burned out shell is all that's left of this car right here after a fiery crash on the atlantic city expressway today. the car burst into flames after slamming into the toll plaza this morning. >> the driver is dead, police and the victim's family still have a lot of questions about how this all happened. nbc 10's cydney long just spoke to the family, she joins us live along the expressway. what did they tell you about the victim? >> reporter: they tell me their son has a big heart and they are heart broken to start because the start of their son's day was nothing out of the ordinary. the victim was making plans with his dad after working yesterday and having dinner at home last night, but he was headed right here westbound along the atlantic city expressway this morning to his workplace at the parx casino in philadelphia when he somehow lost control. >> taken the car out to fill it up with gas this morning because i get up early, he didn't have to get up for work till later. >> reporter: bruce crawford is devastated by the sudden loss of his son joseph. the 39 year old became trapped inside a burning car when he lost control westbound and slammed into the egg harbor toll plaza. state police tell us toll workers were evacuated safely but immediately as the toll plaza itself caught fire. sky force 10 also shows the aftermath of the terrible crash. the car, a hyundai sonata was full of gas and fully involved. it flipped on to its side, held up traffic initially as an nbc 10 viewer posted this instagram photo writing in part, rip to the person who slammed into the toll booth, so unfortunate on this day after thanksgiving. crawford can't imagine what happened or why. he is thankful no one else was injured. >> i didn't know it was totally incinerated, just said have you positively identified him and he says there's nothing really in the car, i don't want to lead you on, they are still at the scene and it's totally engulfed. >> reporter: and the family will be hosting other loved ones at their home tonight. in the meantime, the investigation into the crash is ongoing. we're asking state police for surveillance video from the plaza which is just a couple miles from where we're standing. crawford, who was a dealer at parx casino, his father says, was not crazy about the long commute to philadelphia, but it's something that he had to do after losing his job at atlantic city casinos during the casino closures last summer. live in hammenton, cydney long, nbc 10 news. now to your first alert weather, which is breaking records today. >> allentown hit a new high temperature today, but you didn't have to be there to enjoy this warm holiday weather. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal found a very cool place to hang out. >> reporter: with holiday music on the speakers and ice skates on the rink, you'd think it was easy to get into the christmas spirit, but today it doesn't feel like winter. >> doesn't, it's so warm out. i must say, kind of nice. >> reporter: allison briggs and her niece were getting use to the ice, which was melting in a few spots here or there. >> it's my second time and i'm really getting the hang of it. kind of feels like summer, too. >> reporter: the blue cross river rink is now officially open. they celebrated with a star wars themed party and organizers say this season will be more popular than ever with an indoor lodge, a bar, and an arcade. >> we had over 100,000 skaters last year, which was record setting in our 22 years. this year we enlarged the site, enlarged the lodge, provided more food, more skates. >> reporter: across town at the christmas village in love park, the warm weather wasn't great for tree sales, not too many customers yet, but they are trickling in. >> not this upcoming week, but the next is when people start to get in the christmas mood once thanksgiving is passed. >> i love the christmas carols. >> reporter: for many today getting outside in this weather was an excuse to ditch black friday, kicking off the holiday season away from the crowded malls. >> we thought about it. but decided this would be a better idea. >> look at that, don't have to go to aspen to get the apres ski experience. >> beautiful, right here. >> hopefully you didn't miss your chance to spend time outdoors. can we expect this to last? >> it is going to be kind of mild tomorrow to start your weekend, but that's going to come with clouds and showers around. not as warm as today, though, we're at 64 right now in philadelphia, allentown did hit a record high but around 62 degrees, 61 in millville, 65 degrees right now in atlantic city. over the area currently we are dry, but you see clouds in place. these clouds are going to be increasing overnight tonight. off to the west is where we have rain showers approaching us for tomorrow. not for everybody, but we will see some scattered showers as we go into the morning hours and even by tomorrow evening. for tonight if you are going to be heading out for black friday shopping or friday night plans, 59 degrees by 7:00 p.m., mild outside. by 11:00 p.m., mid 50s, not nearly as cold and tomorrow morning you'll notice a lot more in the way of cloud cover, showers around for the morning and i'll be tracking more as we go into parts of the area for sunday. coming up we'll look at your entire weekend forecast and cooler temperatures ahead. those are protesters in chicago choosing black friday to march on the city's most prestigious downtown shopping district along michigan avenue. they are shopeaking out. edward lawrence reports they are hoping to interrupt the economic engine of black friday. >> reporter: hundreds of protesters brave cold temperatures and rain to demand answers from the chicago mayor and police department. today they wanted what protesters called economic justice. the crowd marched down chicago's magnificent mile, blocking the street and disrupting shoppers looking for black friday deals. >> we're all here because of what affects one community affects us all. >> reporter: the protesters want answers to why it took a year to release video, then charge a chicago police officer for shooting and killing mcdonald. the video shows mcdonald carrying a knife, but walking away from officers. there is no sound and footage from other police cameras at the scene also not released. >> release the tapes, all of the tapes. >> reporter: the chicago police commissioner says his officers showed enormous restraint but offered a stern warning. >> we're not going to stand by and watch something happened. we're not going to let windows get broken and stand by. >> reporter: still, reverend jesse jackson says the police are part to blame for what he calls a coverup. >> one man did the killing, nine police watched it and didn't turn in a report. we see a level of corruption unacceptable. >> reporter: organizers vow to hold more protests and are considering a boycott of chicago businesses. edward lawrence, nbc news, washington. for the first time we are hearing from 76ers rookie center jahlil okafor about a fight he got into early yesterday morning. tmz posted video of the incident. according to tmz, okafor shoved a man to the ground and punched him after the man started heckling him about how bad the 76ers are. the sixers have lost 26 straight games dating back to last year. the team says it's gathering information about what happened here. okafor spoke about this incident today. >> doesn't look good on my part. something i'm embarrassed about. just still dealing with the league and with the team, but not happy about it at all. >> boston police say they won't investigate unless the person in the video comes forward. the sixers are in houston tonight to take on the rockets. jahlil okafor is expected to play. turning to football now, the pain in your stomach might be from all the food you ate yesterday or could be from the eagles. >> or could be from that. yesterday's embarrassing loss to the lions might be the final straw this season for a lot of fans out there. nbc 10's george spencer heard from a lot of those angry and depressed fans today. george, what did they have to tell you? >> reporter: jim, the eagles' last win, a win against the cowboys, now feels like a distant memory. today the daily news is asking if the team might be chip wrecked. this black friday certainly feels black and bleak if you're an eagles fan. >> for the eagles, a total embarrassment. >> reporter: on the field yesterday in detroit, the eagles endured a thanksgiving throwdown so painful some fans here at home could not watch. >> i actually turned it off halfway through. >> reporter: couldn't stand it? >> couldn't take it. >> reporter: and for those who tried right through to the brutal 45-14 final, across the globe. special eagles salute to service airs this saturday night at 7:30. overseas, a somber ceremony in france today in memory of the victims of the paris terrorist attacks. french president francois hollande presided over the ceremony in paris. gathering inside this courtyard at a french national monument there, the ceremony began with france's national anthem, then a minute of silence. finally, the names of the 130 victims were read aloud. and look at this show of support for people who could not attend today's ceremony, everyone encouraged to decorate their homes with french flags. flags were hung outside of apartments and businesses in the city, scores of people gathered at a memorial at a central square in paris, as well. we have new information on a man who jumped the white house fence draped in an american flag on thanksgiving. today authorities charged him with unlawful entry. joseph caputo is accused of scaling the fence yesterday. secret service arrested him immediately, but the intrusion prompted a lockdown as the first family celebrated thanksgiving inside the white house. black friday has certainly become a holiday all its own. we spotted crowds at shopping centers across the region, including the new gloucester premium outlets. >> shopping season gets earlier and earlier. starts off around thanksgiving and not just big malls that want to take advantage. nbc 10's drew smith joining us live in haddonfield this afternoon. drew, we've seen sales start on thanksgiving, now small business saturday, that's creeping into friday. let's just start at halloween why don't we? >> reporter: why not, jim and jacqueline? yeah, it started here, the small businesses really wanting you to come down here, just like a lot of towns across the tri-state area are trying to boost their downtown sales incentives and attractions are coming here tonight to haddonfield. here it is a collective effort to get you down here on the streets. it's the personal touch which keeps customers coming back to the character development toy shop. >> we know the kids, we know the families, everyone talks and everyone says hi to each other out on the street, so it's wonderful. >> reporter: today customers strolled the streets and stopped into the stores where they know the owners. >> it's a huge difference between a random chain store for toys, someone who cares. >> reporter: in haddonfield, almost every downtown business will accept these gift certificates, which you can buy at a 10% discount this weekend. >> definitely incentivizes during this time of year to come down and buy the certificates. >> reporter: mike anderson says he avoids the big malls on black friday. he says this is a peaceful place to spend the day off. >> either walk or ride our bike and enjoy the downtown. today's a perfect day. >> reporter: local store owners hope more people will try this more relaxed version of black friday and visit the little stores on their main streets for the rest of the season. >> it's going to be a great year. last year was wonderful, this year is showing signs of being even better. >> reporter: and later on tonight they are going to the roadways. here's time lapsed video for the fog this morning in south philly around citizens bank park. there you see it, it did, obviously, clear up in time for anyone who hit the road around 8:00, 9:00 this morning, and the warm temperatures probably made it a comfortable shopping day. near record highs through parts of the area, allentown has already hit a record high temperature, so we're unseasonably warm. as we go into tomorrow, it's going to be the milder day out of the weekend, but we have clouds and showers that will be moving in for your saturday and cooler temperatures coming as early as sunday, then monday will be colder. 62 right now in allentown, 63 pottstown, mid 60s for philadelphia, up to bensalem, low 60s glassboro and millville, 64 degrees right now in dover. if you're heading out the rest of the evening, we're going to stay dry, but the clouds are increasing here at center city and we'll see the clouds around tonight. temperatures will be staying milder, too, through the overnight hours. so we'll be in the low 50s by 10:00 p.m., hanging around 50 degrees until early tomorrow morning around the upper 40s, but you see not as cold to start off your weekend, by 6:00, bottoming out in the upper 40s. for today, allentown hit a record high of 64 degrees, old record 62. reading about one degree away from the record, still waiting for the official highs to come in soon. mount pocono one degree away from the record high, atlantic city, as well, and philadelphia today, still far away from the record high, but either way, seasonably warm. clouds moving in, this will be the case tonight, increasing clouds and the rain back off to the west. this rain will be here part of the area tomorrow morning and then even through the later evening hours. here's future weather, tonight we stay dry, clouds moving in and early tomorrow morning and through the early afternoon you see rain mostly north of philadelphia. this area is going to slowly slide to the south, so by the evening hours around 6:00 p.m., maybe through the philadelphia area and continuing to move south later on tomorrow night. sunday that rain mostly south of philadelphia, but we do start to see clearing north to south, so your sunday will be a better day, but actually is going to start to get cooler sunday and colder as we go into monday. so compared to tomorrow, sunday will be the colder day out of the weekend. low temperatures tonight really not too cold, around the mid to upper 40s for most of the area, clouds increasing and for tomorrow scattered showers around, cloudy skies, overcast for the area. high temperatures around 60 degrees, average high is 52. sunday will be closer to average with clearing taking place through the day and monday the high temperature in the upper 40s, but not unseasonably cold, back near 60 wednesday with rain in the forecast. a new development in the colorado springs shooter. police now say they are unsure of the location of the gunman. this after three officers were injured in what police described as an active shooter situation that began late this morning. this is a live look at that scene right now. police say they are still encountering gunfire and just moments ago we saw emergency crews bring one of those injured officers into an ambulance. we will continue to monitor the story and bring you the very the holiday season today by welcoming the white house christmas tree, and that tree has local roots. it was grown at bustard's christmas trees in carbon county, they were there today as the tree arrived at the white house. >> we've put thousands of trees in thousands of living rooms and here we're putting the tree in america's living room. how cool is that? >> the tree will be displayed in the blue room of the white house. apparently it won't hold a candle to another tree we're about to show you. >> a christmas tree in australia has more than 500,000 twinkling lights. it is a guinness world record for the most lights on an artificial christmas tree. the man behind it is a lawyer and businessman who raises money for charity. he has broken several other records for christmas displays. would you look at this? including this one from last year. it has more than a million lights and broke the record for biggest l.e.d. image display. a smoke alarm could save you and your looking for a shooter who opened fire inside a planned parenthood clinic and injured three officers. this is a live picture from that scene. officers are still reportedly encountering gunfire and pictures from the scene there where police are still looking for a shooter who opened fire near a planned parenthood clinic and injured three police officers. in the last few minutes we've seen at least two people put on to stretchers and rushed away in an ambulance. officers, we are told, are still encountering gunfire, at least that was the last report. we've also just learned that the fbi s.w.a.t. team is on its way to the scene and this from nbc news from a white house official, which says the president has been notified by his homeland security adviser of the situation and will be update on it as necessary. we, of course, will keep an eye on this live picture and bring you any new information as we get it. switching now to something that really could make a life saving was heard yelling right here. she was among these shoppers scrambling for deals at a walmart in georgia this morning. police officers recorded this video. ten of them ended up at the store after complaints came in. so the reason some people go a little or a lot crazy on black friday is because they want those great deals. >> and a little patience can pay off. we asked shoppers about the best bargain they got today. here's what they said. >> you always find a good deal this time of year on the k cosmetics and fragrances. today i saved $20 on chanel. >> i went to last call nieman marcus and the first 100 people got gift cards ranging from $10 to $1,000, and i got a gift card for $100 and got prada sunglasses. >> i really wanted a blanket scarf that are in and they are like $24 in the regular store and this one was only $9. >> that's a bargain, right? >> it is a bargain. i went out last night, didn't get the great deals. i didn't find those. >> maybe you need to be up early to find them. i don't know. shoppers who didn't brave the malls on thanksgiving were still busy buying online. >> that's what i need to do. more than $1 billion were spent between midnight and 5:00 p.m. yesterday, that's up 22% from last year. target ceo says online sales are off to a very strong start. target and walmart both launched all their black friday deals online a day early. so, sheena, if we didn't go shopping, those of us who didn't, still a great day to get out of the house. it was gorgeous. >> yeah, trying to get me to go shopping with you last night, i said no. i'm much more an online shopper. but yes, hopefully you're able to get outside today. we have warm air right through the eastern half of the country, at least the eastern seaboard, up even into new england, boston, 61 degrees right now. philadelphia 64, but look at the cold air on the back side of this. that is slowly going to try to move in, but we're not going to have temperatures like that for daytime highs. we're going to stay cooler for the second half of the weekend, but still well above normal. 62 in allentown, 63 in pottstown, 61 degrees in millville and allentown, did hit a record high temperature today. the average high is actually 52 degrees, so we're over 10 degrees above our normal this time of the year. clouds around, but we are nice and dry. we don't have the rain just yet, but it is back off to the west, so this rain will start to move in tomorrow. now for the areas north of philadelphia, you can expect it earlier in the day, farther south you are you can expect it tomorrow evening. for the rest of tonight if you have the friday night plans, mild by 7:00 p.m. near 60 degrees, 9:00 around 57 degrees, and by 11:00 p.m., clouds increasing, mid 50s, just not as cold overnight rink in newcastle county. cell phone cameras captured the chaos here in newark wednesday night. police arrested two teenaged girls after several fights both inside and outside the rink. no one was seriously hurt. there's no word this afternoon what actually started the fights. well, they made their debut weeks ago. now the new red pandas at the zoo have their new names. how they pay tribute to their philly roots. the votes are in and it's official. two red panda cubs born at the philadelphia zoo have been officially named benjamin and betsy. the zoo encouraged visitors to submit names. 17,000 people sent in suggestions for the names that were chosen. the names pay homage to two prominent philadelphia figures, betsy ross and benjamin franklin. >> love those white ears. >> aren't they beautiful? >> they are, and they are busy, too. speaking of busy. >> as the holiday shopping season begins, gift dpgiving isn everyone's mind. >> the american red cross is asking people to make sure donating blood is on the to do list, as well. a lot of donors don't make time to give blood or platelets. >> this is a very challenging time for us collecting blood. people are traveling, there's holiday parties, winter weather is not here yet, but it's coming. that inevitably causes cancellations of blood drives and, of course, seasonal illnesses like the flu, so we really want to encourage people to give something that means something and donate blood to save lives. >> so here's some motivation as a token of thanks. those who come out to give blood and platelets through november 25th toilet. some plumbing experts say the number of calls doubles the day after thanksgiving. winter can also be a worrisome time of year for home owners who can't afford to pay energy bills or have outdated heaters, but one philadelphia-based organization is helping thousands stay warm this season and nbc 10 is supporting its efforts. >> energy coordinating agency is one of the groups in our temperatures. some areas did hit record highs today, allentown and reading, i'll show you that in a second. otherwise we have clouds increasing and this will lead to a cloudy saturday with showers around, even for part of the area early sunday, and then cooler temperatures start to move in the second half of your weekend. right now still in the 60s most of the area, 62 allentown, 63 reading and pottstown, 64 still in philadelphia. low 60s south jersey and delaware, and this is very high above where we should be this time of year. the average high is 52 degrees. today we got to 66 in philadelphia. tomorrow we should be around 60. and then cooler sunday around 53 degrees. little below normal for monday around 49 for the high temperature. so we still stay mild tomorrow, but that's going to come with some showers. as far as today was concerned, allentown and reading both hit 65 degrees. that's a record high for those areas. poconos got close, even atlantic city, philadelphia not so much, but we were still unseasonably warm. now we're watching the rain, it's mostly back off to our west approaching slowly, but ahead we have a lot of cloud cover, so the clouds will be moving in tonight. this is going to be keeping us warmer through the overnight hours, so not cold overnight tonight. many areas staying in the mid to upper 40s and the rain moving in for tomorrow. we stay warm for the rest of the afternoon and evening. clouds move in, but we do stay dry overnight tonight. 7:00 tomorrow morning, showers over the poconos, moving into the lehigh valley and there you see the cold front bringing the rain. by tomorrow afternoon, showers mostly north of philadelphia, but then sliding to the south, rain right around 9:00 p.m. for the philadelphia area, even south jersey and delaware and this area is going to keep moving south. by sunday we start to see clearing from north to south and going to last through the day. cooler temperatures move in behind the rain, so you'll notice that as we go into sunday and especially into monday. for tonight, though, not as cold, clouds increasing, mid to upper 40s. tomorrow cloudy day, temperatures around 60 degrees, so still above normal for this time of year, but will get cooler to sunday. 53 for the high there. monday upper 40s, morning lows in the 30s, then next week tuesday and wednesday expect some rain around, temperatures near 60 on wednesday but cooling down again into thursday. nbc 10 continues to follow breaking news out of colorado springs, colorado. police are now saying that there are officers still in the planned parenthood building. there were reports they are taking fire. a shooter opened fire earlier this afternoon outside the clinic and police say he's still firing his weapon either in or around that building. we've learned now also a fourth officer has been injured, along with several other people. one local hospital reporting it has five patients it's treating from the scene. the fbi s.w.a.t. team is on its way to the scene, as well. also president obama has been briefed on the situation. we're gathering new details by the minute. we'll have a full update coming up at the top of rink is officially open for business this black friday, but that's not the only sign of the season. let's go to nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal live at penn's landing tonight. tell us, how are people making the most of the warm holiday weather? >> reporter: the good news is the sun has actually set, starting it get cooler. the zamboni team had to take a break to get the ice more firm, but the crowds are back on the ice, getting cooler, starting to feel a bit like winter, but earlier today that was a much different story. it can take a couple laps to get your winter legs up and running. a few tumbles and spills and with weather like this you'll also have to avoid puddles of melted ice. >> usually the kids i tell them keep your arms out for balance and do a little penguin, little baby march. >> retrieved someone who had been injured. they brought that person in one of these bear cat type vehicles to an ambulance to get medical care. they are still assuming the shooter is nearby, so things are moving very slow and med ical methodically. not clear how many people may be inside the planned parenthood or if anyone is held hostage right now or police would not confirm if perhaps they were looking for more than one shooter at that scene. as far as people working in the area, they have been told to shelter in place as this situation is sorted out. you can see it's a light snow falling there in colorado springs today. the local sheriff and police on the scene. this was the transfer i told you of an injured person that was rescued by the s.w.a.t. team and brought to the ambulance. heard nbc news give an update on this breaking situation in colorado springs. as you heard, a shooter at a planned parenthood clinic has injured at least three officers. police are still trying to get this situation under control. there are an unknown number of people injured and they do not have this shooter in custody. as you heard from lester holt, people there are being told to shelter in place in colorado springs. we will continue to follow new developments and bring you updates throughout this newscast. let's get news here at home, a burned out shell is all that's left of this car right here after a fiery crash on the atlantic city expressway today. the car burst into flames after slamming into the toll plaza this morning. >> the driver is dead, police and the victim's family still have a lot of questions about how this all happened. nbc 10's cydney long just spoke to the family, she joins us live along the expressway. what did they tell you about the victim? >> reporter: they tell me their son has a big heart and they are heart broken to start because the start of their son's day was nothing out of the ordinary. the victim was making plans with his dad after working yesterday and having dinner at home last night, but he was headed right here westbound along the atlantic city expressway this morning to his workplace at the parx casino in philadelphia when he somehow lost control. >> taken the car out to fill it up with gas this morning because i get up early, he didn't have to get up for work till later. >> reporter: bruce crawford is devastated by the sudden loss of his son joseph. the 39 year old became trapped inside a burning car when he lost control westbound and slammed into the egg harbor toll plaza. state police tell us toll workers were evacuated safely but immediately as the toll plaza itself caught fire. sky force 10 also shows the aftermath of the terrible crash. the car, a hyundai sonata was full of gas and fully involved. it flipped on to its side, held up traffic initially as an nbc 10 viewer posted this instagram photo writing in part, rip to the person who slammed into the toll booth, so unfortunate on this day after thanksgiving. crawford can't imagine what happened or why. he is thankful no one else was injured. >> i didn't know it was totally incinerated, just said have you positively identified him and he says there's nothing really in the car, i don't want to lead you on, they are still at the scene and it's totally engulfed. >> reporter: and the family will be hosting other loved ones at their home tonight. in the meantime, the investigation into the crash is ongoing. we're asking state police for surveillance video from the plaza which is just a couple miles from where we're standing. crawford, who was a dealer at parx casino, his father says, was not crazy about the long commute to philadelphia, but it's something that he had to do after losing his job at atlantic city casinos during the casino closures last summer. live in hammenton, cydney long, nbc 10 news. now to your first alert weather, which is breaking records today. >> allentown hit a new high temperature today, but you didn't have to be there to enjoy this warm holiday weather. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal found a very cool place to hang out. >> reporter: with holiday music on the speakers and ice skates on the rink, you'd think it was easy to get into the christmas spirit, but today it doesn't feel like winter. >> doesn't, it's so warm out. i must say, kind of nice. >> reporter: allison briggs and her niece were getting use to the ice, which was melting in a few spots here or there. >> it's my second time and i'm really getting the hang of it. kind of feels like summer, too. >> reporter: the blue cross river rink is now officially open. they celebrated with a star wars themed party and organizers say this season will be more popular than ever with an indoor lodge, a bar, and an arcade. >> we had over 100,000 skaters last year, which was record setting in our 22 years. this year we enlarged the site, enlarged the lodge, provided more food, more skates. >> reporter: across town at the christmas village in love park, the warm weather wasn't great for tree sales, not too many customers yet, but they are trickling in. >> not this upcoming week, but the next is when people start to get in the christmas mood once thanksgiving is passed. >> i love the christmas carols. >> reporter: for many today getting outside in this weather was an excuse to ditch black friday, kicking off the holiday season away from the crowded malls. >> we thought about it. but decided this would be a better idea. >> look at that, don't have to go to aspen to get the apres ski experience. >> beautiful, right here. >> hopefully you didn't miss your chance to spend time outdoors. can we expect this to last? >> it is going to be kind of mild tomorrow to start your weekend, but that's going to come with clouds and showers around. not as warm as today, though, we're at 64 right now in philadelphia, allentown did hit a record high but around 62 degrees, 61 in millville, 65 degrees right now in atlantic city. over the area currently we are dry, but you see clouds in place. these clouds are going to be increasing overnight tonight. off to the west is where we have rain showers approaching us for tomorrow. not for everybody, but we will see some scattered showers as we go into the morning hours and even by tomorrow evening. for tonight if you are going to be heading out for black friday shopping or friday night plans, 59 degrees by 7:00 p.m., mild outside. by 11:00 p.m., mid 50s, not nearly as cold and tomorrow morning you'll notice a lot more in the way of cloud cover, showers around for the morning and i'll be tracking more as we go into parts of the area for sunday. coming up we'll look at your entire weekend forecast and cooler temperatures ahead. those are protesters in chicago choosing black friday to march on the city's most prestigious downtown shopping district along michigan avenue. they are shopeaking out. edward lawrence reports they are hoping to interrupt the economic engine of black friday. >> reporter: hundreds of protesters brave cold temperatures and rain to demand answers from the chicago mayor and police department. today they wanted what protesters called economic justice. the crowd marched down chicago's magnificent mile, blocking the street and disrupting shoppers looking for black friday deals. >> we're all here because of what affects one community affects us all. >> reporter: the protesters want answers to why it took a year to release video, then charge a chicago police officer for shooting and killing mcdonald. the video shows mcdonald carrying a knife, but walking away from officers. there is no sound and footage from other police cameras at the scene also not released. >> release the tapes, all of the tapes. >> reporter: the chicago police commissioner says his officers showed enormous restraint but offered a stern warning. >> we're not going to stand by and watch something happened. we're not going to let windows get broken and stand by. >> reporter: still, reverend jesse jackson says the police are part to blame for what he calls a coverup. >> one man did the killing, nine police watched it and didn't turn in a report. we see a level of corruption unacceptable. >> reporter: organizers vow to hold more protests and are considering a boycott of chicago businesses. edward lawrence, nbc news, washington. for the first time we are hearing from 76ers rookie center jahlil okafor about a fight he got into early yesterday morning. tmz posted video of the incident. according to tmz, okafor shoved a man to the ground and punched him after the man started heckling him about how bad the 76ers are. the sixers have lost 26 straight games dating back to last year. the team says it's gathering information about what happened here. okafor spoke about this incident today. >> doesn't look good on my part. something i'm embarrassed about. just still dealing with the league and with the team, but not happy about it at all. >> boston police say they won't investigate unless the person in the video comes forward. the sixers are in houston tonight to take on the rockets. jahlil okafor is expected to play. turning to football now, the pain in your stomach might be from all the food you ate yesterday or could be from the eagles. >> or could be from that. yesterday's embarrassing loss to the lions might be the final straw this season for a lot of fans out there. nbc 10's george spencer heard from a lot of those angry and depressed fans today. george, what did they have to tell you? >> reporter: jim, the eagles' last win, a win against the cowboys, now feels like a distant memory. today the daily news is asking if the team might be chip wrecked. this black friday certainly feels black and bleak if you're an eagles fan. >> for the eagles, a total embarrassment. >> reporter: on the field yesterday in detroit, the eagles endured a thanksgiving throwdown so painful some fans here at home could not watch. >> i actually turned it off halfway through. >> reporter: couldn't stand it? >> couldn't take it. >> reporter: and for those who tried right through to the brutal 45-14 final, across the globe. special eagles salute to service airs this saturday night at 7:30. overseas, a somber ceremony in france today in memory of the victims of the paris terrorist attacks. french president francois hollande presided over the ceremony in paris. gathering inside this courtyard at a french national monument there, the ceremony began with france's national anthem, then a minute of silence. finally, the names of the 130 victims were read aloud. and look at this show of support for people who could not attend today's ceremony, everyone encouraged to decorate their homes with french flags. flags were hung outside of apartments and businesses in the city, scores of people gathered at a memorial at a central square in paris, as well. we have new information on a man who jumped the white house fence draped in an american flag on thanksgiving. today authorities charged him with unlawful entry. joseph caputo is accused of scaling the fence yesterday. secret service arrested him immediately, but the intrusion prompted a lockdown as the first family celebrated thanksgiving inside the white house. black friday has certainly become a holiday all its own. we spotted crowds at shopping centers across the region, including the new gloucester premium outlets. >> shopping season gets earlier and earlier. starts off around thanksgiving and not just big malls that want to take advantage. nbc 10's drew smith joining us live in haddonfield this afternoon. drew, we've seen sales start on thanksgiving, now small business saturday, that's creeping into friday. let's just start at halloween why don't we? >> reporter: why not, jim and jacqueline? yeah, it started here, the small businesses really wanting you to come down here, just like a lot of towns across the tri-state area are trying to boost their downtown sales incentives and attractions are coming here tonight to haddonfield. here it is a collective effort to get you down here on the streets. it's the personal touch which keeps customers coming back to the character development toy shop. >> we know the kids, we know the families, everyone talks and everyone says hi to each other out on the street, so it's wonderful. >> reporter: today customers strolled the streets and stopped into the stores where they know the owners. >> it's a huge difference between a random chain store for toys, someone who cares. >> reporter: in haddonfield, almost every downtown business will accept these gift certificates, which you can buy at a 10% discount this weekend. >> definitely incentivizes during this time of year to come down and buy the certificates. >> reporter: mike anderson says he avoids the big malls on black friday. he says this is a peaceful place to spend the day off. >> either walk or ride our bike and enjoy the downtown. today's a perfect day. >> reporter: local store owners hope more people will try this more relaxed version of black friday and visit the little stores on their main streets for the rest of the season. >> it's going to be a great year. last year was wonderful, this year is showing signs of being even better. >> reporter: and later on tonight they are going to the roadways. here's time lapsed video for the fog this morning in south philly around citizens bank park. there you see it, it did, obviously, clear up in time for anyone who hit the road around 8:00, 9:00 this morning, and the warm temperatures probably made it a comfortable shopping day. near record highs through parts of the area, allentown has already hit a record high temperature, so we're unseasonably warm. as we go into tomorrow, it's going to be the milder day out of the weekend, but we have clouds and showers that will be moving in for your saturday and cooler temperatures coming as early as sunday, then monday will be colder. 62 right now in allentown, 63 pottstown, mid 60s for philadelphia, up to bensalem, low 60s glassboro and millville, 64 degrees right now in dover. if you're heading out the rest of the evening, we're going to stay dry, but the clouds are increasing here at center city and we'll see the clouds around tonight. temperatures will be staying milder, too, through the overnight hours. so we'll be in the low 50s by 10:00 p.m., hanging around 50 degrees until early tomorrow morning around the upper 40s, but you see not as cold to start off your weekend, by 6:00, bottoming out in the upper 40s. for today, allentown hit a record high of 64 degrees, old record 62. reading about one degree away from the record, still waiting for the official highs to come in soon. mount pocono one degree away from the record high, atlantic city, as well, and philadelphia today, still far away from the record high, but either way, seasonably warm. clouds moving in, this will be the case tonight, increasing clouds and the rain back off to the west. this rain will be here part of the area tomorrow morning and then even through the later evening hours. here's future weather, tonight we stay dry, clouds moving in and early tomorrow morning and through the early afternoon you see rain mostly north of philadelphia. this area is going to slowly slide to the south, so by the evening hours around 6:00 p.m., maybe through the philadelphia area and continuing to move south later on tomorrow night. sunday that rain mostly south of philadelphia, but we do start to see clearing north to south, so your sunday will be a better day, but actually is going to start to get cooler sunday and colder as we go into monday. so compared to tomorrow, sunday will be the colder day out of the weekend. low temperatures tonight really not too cold, around the mid to upper 40s for most of the area, clouds increasing and for tomorrow scattered showers around, cloudy skies, overcast for the area. high temperatures around 60 degrees, average high is 52. sunday will be closer to average with clearing taking place through the day and monday the high temperature in the upper 40s, but not unseasonably cold, back near 60 wednesday with rain in the forecast. a new development in the colorado springs shooter. police now say they are unsure of the location of the gunman. this after three officers were injured in what police described as an active shooter situation that began late this morning. this is a live look at that scene right now. police least two people put on to stretchers and rushed away in an ambulance. officers, we are told, are still encountering gunfire, at least that was the last report. we've also just learned that the fbi s.w.a.t. team is on its way to the scene and this from nbc news from a white house official, which says the president has been notified by his homeland security adviser of the situation and will be was heard yelling right here. she was among these shoppers scrambling for deals at a walmart in georgia this morning. police officers recorded this video. ten of them ended up at the store after complaints came in. so the reason some people go a little or a lot crazy on black friday is because they want those great deals. >> and a little patience can pay off. we asked shoppers about the best bargain they got today. here's what they said. >> you always find a good deal this time of year on the k cosmetics and fragrances. today i saved $20 on chanel. >> i went to last call nieman marcus and the first 100 people got gift cards ranging from $10 to $1,000, and i got a gift card for $100 and got prada sunglasses. >> i really wanted a blanket scarf that are in and they are like $24 in the regular store and this one was only $9. >> that's a bargain, right? >> it is a bargain. i went out last night, didn't get the great deals. i didn't find those. >> maybe you need to be up early to find them. i don't know. shoppers who didn't brave the malls on thanksgiving were still busy buying online. >> that's what i need to do. more than $1 billion were spent between midnight and 5:00 p.m. yesterday, that's up 22% from last year. target ceo says online sales are off to a very strong start. target and walmart both launched all their black friday deals online a day early. so, sheena, if we didn't go shopping, those of us who didn't, still a great day to get out of the house. it was gorgeous. >> yeah, trying to get me to go shopping with you last night, i said no. i'm much more an online shopper. but yes, hopefully you're able to get outside today. we have warm air right through the eastern half of the country, at least the eastern seaboard, up even into new england, boston, 61 degrees right now. philadelphia 64, but look at the cold air on the back side of this. that is slowly going to try to move in, but we're not going to have temperatures like that for daytime highs. we're going to stay cooler for the second half of the weekend, but still well above normal. 62 in allentown, 63 in pottstown, 61 degrees in millville and allentown, did hit a record high temperature today. the average high is actually 52 degrees, so we're over 10 degrees above our normal this time of the year. clouds around, but we are nice and dry. we don't have the rain just yet, but it is back off to the west, so this rain will start to move in tomorrow. now for the areas north of philadelphia, you can expect it earlier in the day, farther south you are you can expect it tomorrow evening. for the rest of tonight if you have the friday night plans, mild by 7:00 p.m. near 60 degrees, 9:00 around 57 degrees, and by 11:00 p.m., clouds increasing, mid 50s, just not as cold overnight tonight. coming up a look at the timing of the rain for your weekend and cooler temperatures moving in. >> all right, sheena. we have new information this afternoon about a fight at a roller skating rink in newcastle county. cell phone cameras captured the chaos here in newark wednesday night. police arrested two teenaged girls after several fights both inside and outside the rink. no one was seriously hurt. there's no word this afternoon what actually started the fights. well, they made their debut weeks ago. now the new red pandas at the zoo have their new names. how they pay tribute to their philly roots. the votes are in and it's official. two red panda cubs born at the philadelphia zoo have been officially named benjamin and betsy. the zoo encouraged visitors to submit names. 17,000 people sent in suggestions for the names that were chosen. the names pay homage to two prominent philadelphia figures, betsy ross and benjamin franklin. >> love those white ears. >> aren't they beautiful? >> they are, and they are busy, too. speaking of busy. >> as the holiday shopping season begins, gift dpgiving isn everyone's mind. >> the american red cross is asking people to make sure donating blood is on the to do list, as well. a lot of donors don't make time to give blood or platelets. >> this is a very challenging time for us collecting blood. people are traveling, there's holiday parties, winter weather is not here yet, but it's coming. that inevitably causes cancellations of blood drives and, of course, seasonal illnesses like the flu, so we really want to encourage people to give something that means something and donate blood to save lives. >> so here's some motivation as a token of thanks. those who come out to give blood and platelets through november 25th through the 29th you're going to get a gift, a red cross mixing spoon and includes recipes from celebrity chefs. well, coming up we have warm temperatures for the rest of tonight. then some rain for very busy day for plumbers. and that's because preparing and cleaning up all that turkey day feast sends a lot of food and scraps down the drain and down the garbage disposal and i guess also down the toilet. some plumbing experts say the number of calls doubles the day after thanksgiving. winter can also be a worrisome time of year for home owners who can't afford to pay energy bills or have outdated heaters, but one philadelphia-based organization is helping thousands stay warm this season and nbc 10 is supporting its efforts. >> energy coordinating agency is one of the groups in our 21st century solutions contest. the program awards grant money to nonprofits making a difference in our community. >> nbc 10's rosemary connors explains how eca is doing just that. >> reporter: in north philadelphia, construction crews are on a fast approaching deadline. get the job done before old man winter comes knocking at the door. today's task, tackle this porch. >> so we're actually recementing this porch so that it's not, you know, falling apart and everything like that. as we've done over here. >> reporter: chuck and his crew with energy coordinating to agency, or eca, are working on a special project, a comprehensive approach to home weatherization. eca's goal -- >> durable, safe, highly energy efficient, and healthy home. >> reporter: liz robinson is the executive director of the 30-year-old nonprofit based in kensington that does work in 10,000 homes every year. >> whether tight windows, looks like they are new. >> yes, yes, had to replace the windows here on the side and the rear. >> reporter: plus, eca's crews put up new yellow siding here. >> what we're trying to do is solve the energy problems for low income people so they don't get caught in the cycle of bill payment, delinquency, and termination. >> 1957, i was 9 years old when i moved here. add that up. >> reporter: and you want to stay here. >> yes, yes. >> reporter: gloria graham is the recipient of eca's work. she proudly shows off the new energy efficient gas heater in her basement. it replaces the others that cost about $400 a month to heat her home. >> i think it's awesome, very good. work is getting done i couldn't have imagined, because i'm on a very low income monthly check. and i could never have done it. >> reporter: rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, warm day today to end out your week. hopefully you're able to enjoy it, because tomorrow we have some rain moving in and some cooler temperatures. some areas did hit record highs today, allentown and reading, i'll show you that in a second. otherwise we have clouds increasing and this will lead to a cloudy saturday with showers around, even for part of the area early sunday, and then cooler temperatures start to move in the second half of your weekend. right now still in the 60s most of the area, 62 allentown, 63 reading and pottstown, 64 still in philadelphia. low 60s south jersey and delaware, and this is very high above where we should be this time of year. the average high is 52 degrees. today we got to 66 in philadelphia. tomorrow we should be around 60. and then cooler sunday around 53 degrees. little below normal for monday around 49 for the high temperature. so we still stay mild tomorrow, but that's going to come with some showers. as far as today was concerned, allentown and reading both hit 65 degrees. that's a record high for those areas. poconos got close, even atlantic city, philadelphia not so much, but we were still unseasonably warm. now we're watching the rain, it's mostly back off to our west approaching slowly, but ahead we have a lot of cloud cover, so the clouds will be moving in tonight. this is going to be keeping us warmer through the overnight hours, so not cold overnight tonight. many areas staying in the mid to upper 40s and the rain moving in for tomorrow. we stay warm for the rest of the afternoon and evening. clouds move in, but we do stay dry overnight tonight. 7:00 tomorrow morning, showers over the poconos, moving into the lehigh valley and there you see the cold front bringing the rain. by tomorrow afternoon, showers mostly north of philadelphia, but then sliding to the south, rain right around 9:00 p.m. for the philadelphia area, even south jersey and delaware and this area is going to keep moving south. by sunday we start to see clearing from north to south and going to last through the day. cooler temperatures move in behind the rain, so you'll notice that as we go into sunday and especially into monday. for tonight, though, not as cold, clouds increasing, mid to upper 40s. tomorrow cloudy day, temperatures around 60 degrees, so still above normal for this time of year, but will get cooler to sunday. 53 for the high there. monday upper 40s, morning lows in the 30s, then next week tuesday and wednesday expect some rain around, temperatures near 60 on wednesday but cooling down again into thursday. nbc 10 continues to follow breaking news out of colorado springs, colorado. police are now saying that there are officers still in the planned parenthood building. there were reports they are taking fire. a shooter opened fire earlier this afternoon outside the clinic and police say he's still firing his weapon either in or around that building. we've learned now also a fourth officer has been injured, along with several other people. one local hospital reporting it has five patients it's treating from the scene. the fbi s.w.a.t. team is on its way to the scene, as well. also president obama has been briefed on the situation. we're gathering new details by the minute. we'll have a full update coming up at the top of the hour. this is nbc 10 news. >> a local charity with long time philadelphia roots is expanding its efforts this holiday. >> one day at a time wants to help local families in need, but they need your help. nbc 10's katie zachary explains. >> reporter: walk the halls with the head of one day at a time and you can feel the pride he has for this philadelphia organization. >> busy, but it's exciting because we're giving back. >> reporter: his father started it and it's grown to help those living with hiv, families who are homeless, and ex-offenders. from thanksgiving through christmas, they are busy collecting turkeys, extra food for the pantry, and clothes and toys for kids. they help make hundreds of families happy over the holidays. but this year they also want to focus on a special four they are encountering gunfire as they continue to search for a gunman. you're looking at a live picture of the scene in colorado springs. this is near a planned parenthood. we're told five people are being treated at a local hospital. we know four officers were injured. it all started before noon today when police told nearby businesses and residents to shelter in place. >> we are still working through the situation. we do not have the shooter at this point, but we do have all of our resources brought to bear. >> they are still trying to locate the shooter. the fbi s.w.a.t. team is helping colorado springs police. we'll continue to monitor developments and bring them to you on air and on our nbc10.com news app. here at home the calendar says late november. feels like may outside with the record and near record temperatures. still not enough to stop people across our area from embracing winter activities like here at the blue cross river rink. good evening, i'm keith jones. the rink is officially open for business this black friday, but that's not the only sign of the season. let's go to nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal live at penn's landing tonight. tell us, how are people making the most of the warm holiday weather? >> reporter: the good news is the sun has actually set, starting it get cooler. the zamboni team had to take a break to get the ice more firm, but the crowds are back on the ice, getting cooler, starting to feel a bit like winter, but earlier today that was a much different story. it can take a couple laps to get your winter legs up and running. a few tumbles and spills and with weather like this you'll also have to avoid puddles of melted ice. >> usually the kids i tell them keep your arms out for balance and do a little penguin, little baby march. >> reporter: the briggs family brought their young niece to the blue cross river rink, open with temperatures in the 60s. >> this is my second time and i'm really getting the hang of it. kind of feels like summer, too. >> reporter: kind of tough to get in the holiday spirit. it does not feel like the day after thanksgiving. >> it's so warm out. i must say it's kind of nice. >> reporter: today also marks the first day of christmas tree sales. at love park a few early birds, but businesses think the big rush is still ahead. >> not this upcoming week but the next is when people start getting in
