Tonight, hes telling the story of how firefighters pulled him out. Good evening, im jacqueline london. Nbc 10 brought you the rescue live as it unfolded in south jersey. Tonight, the farmer is telling us what it was like in that grain bin with 600,000 pounds of soybeans up to his waist. Nbc 10s aundrea klein thomas has the latest. Reporter chris is resting easy tonight after spending hours in this bin getting rescued. The 72yearold lifelong farmer says this is the most serious accident hes ever had. Chris was doing well and is back on solid ground. I wasnt in any trouble but i wasnt getting down either. It was like he was stuck in the quicksand. Reporter skyforce 10 apertured First Responders working to rescue the farmer from his grain bin. He was in the bin trying to fix a jam so he could continue loading his soybeans when he started to sink. When firefighters arrived, an estimated 600,000 pounds of soybeans were packed up to his chest. A worker on location hit a stop button, kept it from going any further. Reporter the teams making rescue took three hours. Once he was secured, firefighters put a steel cylinder around him and used a vacuum to suck the grain out of the bin enough to get him freed. This is probably one of your worst situations because youre working with an unstable substance. Throughout the whole time all our rescuers had to be tied off along with the victim tied off. That way nobody got in more jeopardy of falling down deeper. Reporter he was taken to the hospital as a precaution. I was never in any pain. Had no issues at all. Reporter hes already brushing off the incident calling it an unfortunate accident. The worst hes ever experienced. As for the First Responders i dont know where all they came from, right yet, but ill find that all out and properly thank them. Reporter within the last month, some of the responding agencies received training on how to conduct rescues from confined spaces so all of that came in handy today. Ali has suffered from parkinsons disease for three decades and hes looked more and more frail in public lately. When he was drafted into the army, he refused to go because of his religious beliefs and he was against the vietnam war so he became arguably the most controversial figure in america. He was stripped of his title. Had his boxing license revoked. He was arrested. But the Supreme Court overturned his conviction. A few years later, he made a comeback in the ring. Sunday afternoon and evening would be the times for the main threat and were talking about the main threat being damaging win winds, theres also a threat of some hail with nose storms. The area in brown has the greatest threat. That would include chester county, all of delaware and part of south jersey, but any part of the area pretty much could see some severe storms on sunday. But as far as now, were not seeing much around. We do see stuff from the west and the southwest. That is going to be headed our way. As we go through the weekend. For tomorrow, though, its mostly just cloud cover for much of the day then the showers come in late in the day. Thats saturday. Well time out when the worst weather sunday will come in just a few minutes. Now, a middle School Groundskeeper accused of tricking kids into sending him pornography. Tonight, hes in jail and police want to know if there are other victims. Nbc 10s drew smith reports from monroe township, gloucester county. Shes seen maintenance workers out here but yesterday Police Arrived to arrest this man at the grounds shop. Its appalling and we try to keep our kids as safe as possible and, like its just horrible to hear. Reporter detectives accuse the 32yearold contract worker of posing as a teenage girl and using Facebook Messenger to communicate with at least two students here. Its a shock. Reporter parents picking up kids tonight are just beginning to learn about the threemonth investigation prompted by parents who police say discovered the pornographic messages to and from him, alleged fake account, which included pictures of their kids. If theyre going to contract out, i think they should really know more about the companies theyre contracting with and if theyre doing background checks. Reporter he worked for the Gca Services Group which said in a statement to nbc 10 his background check or work performance did not present reason for concern. The Monroe School superintendent says the worker will not return to the district. For parents this is another reminder to talk social media safety with kids. As a parent you have to do it, as works ining in a school have to do, its hard. Reporter the detective in charge of the case tells me hes setting up interviews with other possible victims which means more charges could be coming in this case. In monroe township, drew smith, nbc 10 news. New at 11 00, a man is critically injured after a shooting in philadelphias frankford section tonight. Police say the victim was shot twice on charles street around 5 00. So far no word on any suspects. A bucks county pharmacist shoots and kills a wouldbe robber who jumped over the counter. Police say the masked man had a shotgun and zip ties when he walked inside the pharmacy in levittown this morning. The pharmacist saw it coming on his security cameras. He grabbed his gun and ordered the guy to surrender but the man jumped over the counter and thats when the pharmacist shot and killed him. Was entirely justified in his conduct and, frankly, should be commended. From what i can see, performed a public service. Police are still working to identify the deceased suspect. They released this photo of a tattoo on his stomach asking for the publics help. The getaway driver was sitting outside the pharmacy and didnt know his partner had been shot. He was arrested and will be charged with homicide. New information tonight about a Training Exercise that turned deadly at ft. Hood in texas. The bodies of four more soldiers have been found a day after their truck overturned and was swept away in a rainswollen creek. Five other soldiers were killed and three more injured. The tragedy comes after days of heavy rains in central and southeast texas. At least six other people have died. A train towing cars full of oil derailed in oregons colu Columbia River gorge sparking a fire that sent a large plume of smoke high in the sky. People within a half mile of the site were evacuated. No one was hurt. Officials say no oil from the train has been spotted in the river. Tonight a north Philadelphia Community remembers a pastor killed in a hit and run crash eight days ago. Soldiers of the Lord Ministry hosted a memorial today for leon. He preached a sermon last thursday night then came to drop people off at that ministry when someone hit and killed him. The driver remains on the run tonight. They were just teenagers when they were sentenced to life in prison without parole. Now, hundreds of inmates are getting a Second Chance. Nbc 10s keith jones explains. Jacqueline, many of these inmates have served three, even more decades and tonight i learned getting them eligible for parole could still be a long process. Cell phones, the internet, the computer. All foreign objects to these inmates like this man, tyrone jones, convicted of murder at 16 years old. Hes been behind bars for 43 years. As a 16yearold, he didnt drive. Hes never seen the ocean. Reporter and attorney hunter says tyrone whos now 60 never expected this, a resentence. Earlier this year the Supreme Court ruled it was unconstitutional to sentence people under 18 to life without parole. Philadelphia has more individual s that need it be resentenced as a result of this than any other city in america. Reporter some 300 cases according to District AttorneySeth Williams and today jones sentence was vacated. Hes eligible for parole. His deceased victims family was consulted. Theyre willing to accept that, you know, the 43 years is sufficient at this point. He is completely rehabilitated. He has he put the Electrical Systems in the wardens house. Reporter yet that still doesnt compare to modern technology jones hasnt dealt with yet. Luckily hunt says his client has four supportive sisters. The District Attorney says one judge will take on these cases starting with the inmates who have been jailed the longest and could take them three years to go through every case. Elizabeth joined her mother during a News Conference to update her progress. She said she is still in pain but doing fine. And then in the afternoon, again, theyre just mostly isolated. Mostly out to the west. Thats 9 30 at night on saturday night. And that is a sign of things to come for sunday. And thats when weve got the first alert out for the potential for severe storms. And all areas of our region could see some of those storms. Even the jersey shore. That will be later sunday night. Sunday afternoon and evening is the main threat and damaging winds would be the main threat. The ground is saturated from all that rain we got in may. So it wont take that much to knock some trees over. And, of course, the highest threat as we showed you in parts of chester county, all of delaware, parts of south jersey, but just about any part of the area has the potential for seeing at least a gusty thunderstorm. Lets see what happens with the futurecast. We go through the day on sunday and youll be able to see this. 9 00 a. M. , things are fairly quiet but then it gets moving. Its warm. Its humid. And here come the thunderstorms in the afternoon. Perhaps in a line. Thats at 5 00. Then as we go to 7 00, theres some pretty strong storms with some, again, gusty winds going through. By 8 00, east of the philadelphia area, and as they weaken later on at night, or takes later at night for them to reach the jersey shore. So its one round of really strong storms on sunday. So its not going to be an allday thing. Tomorrow at the shore, at least partly sunny skies. 74. Sunday we have the showers. Mostly late. Very late. Sunday night especially.
