to police, two men armed with guns one of them wearing a mask, held up a pizza delivery worker on nearby tampa street. detectives are now looking into this possible connection between the two crime scenes. philadelphia police say a driver was speeding when his car crashed into a house and flipped over. the accident happened on north street in the city's lawn creek neighborhood. officers on the scene tell us the car went through a backyard took down fencing and then hit a column of a porch. the driver is in stable condition, but the woman the passenger who was inside the car as well she is now, it's nighttime in the search zone and it's dark out so crews will return in the morning. the plane took off from indonesia's surabaya airport and was on its way to singapore. nbc 10's matt delucia has been following developments all morning long and is live in the digital operation center. at this point, unfortunately, no real leads for the searchers out there. >> that is correct, rosemary. i've just learned that the search by air has been suspended but some ships are still in the water looking for this plane, and the 162 people onboard. what we know right now is that airasia flight a-501 was about halfway to its destination when a pilot asked to change course because of bad weather. indonesian transportation official said this morning that the pilot asked to avoid clouds by turning left and going higher to 34,000 feet. that was the last communication before the air bus a-320 disappeared from radar. that was about 42 minutes into the flight. we also know that there was no distress signal that was coming from that plane. aviation analyst julian bray says the weather radar was showing violent thunderstorms across the route at the time. >> any extreme weather condition is a threat and the pilot has to work out whether he's actually going to take the aircraft up. he at the end of the day has the final say as to whether it will fly, but surely he's consulted all the maps he's been given the advice he's been given the weather information. they know where the storms are. >> relatives of those onboard meanwhile have been gathering at an airport, waiting for updates. more than 200 rescuers had been dispatched to look for the plane and its passengers. again, the air search has been suspended, as it is about 9:00 p.m. in that region. but some crews do remain on the water at this hour. live in the digital operations center, i'm matt delucia, "nbc 10 news". >> we'll check back for updates. the disappearance of this airasia plane comes just ten months after a malaysia airlines jet disappeared. investigators have found no wreckage in that case but officials think the jet crashed somewhere in the indian ocean. some call the disappearance of that malaysia flight one of modern aviation's most perplexing mysteries. now to another developing story. ships and helicopters are taking part in a rescue at sea, happening off the greek island of corfu. a fire on a ferry near the island stranded nearly 500 people overnight. the greek coast guard says crews have rescued about 150 of those passengers, and at this point, there are no reports of any injuries. here into a little bit of trouble because of rough seas. you can see it's a little bit difficult to make out some of these pictures. as soon as we get some more information on this story, we will bring you the updates. back in the u.s. this weekend, thousands of police officers including members of law enforcement from pennsylvania new jersey, and delaware gave a final salute to one of the two nypd officers killed in the ambush in brooklyn. a gunman shot officer rafael ramos and his partner wenjian liu while they were setting in their patrol car on december 20th. the gunman whom police say was seriously troubled then killed himself. yesterday, beat cops park rangers, jail guards, and state troopers from coast to coast gathered at a church in queens new york for ramos's funeral. his flag-draped casket was carried past a sea of salutes. tributes continued inside the church for more than an hour starting with vice president joe biden. >> for the ramos family we are all lucky to have rafael. he didn't just have a bible in his locker, he lived it in his heart. he was a cop for all, all the right reasons. >> after the service the family members of officer ramos and his partner helped to carry the casket out of the church. some nypd officers watching the service on a big screen just outside the church turned their backs on mayor bill de blasio as he was speaking. police union officials say the mayor has contributed to a climate of mistrust toward law enforcement during the recent anti-police protests. a spokesperson for de blasio says the mayor's only focus right now is to unify the city and to honor the lives of the two police officers. both ramos and liu have been posthumously promoted to first grade detectives. the funeral for liu will be next weekend on saturday in brooklyn. while thousands were honoring rafael ramos in new york in philadelphia protesters organized a peaceful rally over police brutality. more than 100 demonstrators packed center city yesterday. leaders of the group muslims mobilized against police brutality called for an end to the killing of unarmed black men by police officers a reference to the michael brown and eric garner stop. brown's family is planning a march for justice in the city's frankfurt neighborhood on tuesday. this week some parents and students in philadelphia are going to be scrambling now that their school has suddenly closed. this weekend, the families received letters telling them that walter palmer charter school will permanently close on december 31st. walter palmer points to financial difficulties. the charter owes over a million dollars to the philadelphia school district. that order came down earlier this year after the state supreme court found that the charter was collecting money from the district for too many students. as a result at the time, the charter's high school closed. the parents of the remaining students in elementary school are frustrated now that the charter is completely shutting down. >> i feel defeated. like what am i going to do for them, and how is this going to affect them? >> a school district spokesperson tells nbc 10 that any parents should and play station systems are running smoothly again after a christmas day outage. now we're learning who may be behind the hack and why. this morning the community of flagstaff, arizona is mourning the loss of a rookie police officer who was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence call. 24-year-old tyler stewart was on the police force less than a year. he was looking for a man involved in a domestic violence incident yesterday when that suspect fired several shots and killed him. the suspect then shot and killed himself. stewart is only the second flagstaff police officer ever to die in the line of duty. this weekend, two snowmobilers were killed while trying to cross a frozen lake in montana. they were snowmobiling with a group of people. two made it across safely. a third person fell through the ice, but was rescued. a helicopter search team eventually recovered the bodies of the other two snowmobilers trapped in the icy waters of the lake. now to news overseas today the united states and nato will mark the completion of the military mission in afghanistan. a ceremony will formally end 13 years of war in the country. starting january 1st a u.s.-led security force of about 13,000 soldiers will transition to a supporting role. more than 2,200 american troops were killed during the 13-year mission in afghanistan. this morning, there is no comment from the white house after north korea's newest threat which included racial slurs against president obama. the threat follows the suspicious internet outage in north korea. this weekend north korea issued a statement accusing the president of pressuring sony to release the controversial movie "the interview." north korean officials are angry because the film portrays the fictional assassination of their leader kim jong-un. the u.s. has blamed north korea for the cyber attack designed to stop sony from releasing the movie. a self-proclaimed hacker in finland says that he is partly responsible for disrupting gaming services on xbox and play station consoles on christmas day. the man calls himself ryan and says that he belongs to the hacking group lizard squad. he claims that the attack was national average price of a gallon of regular is just $2.31, and in 27 states prices at some stations have dipped below $2 a gallon. analysts say a major reason for this is that saudi arabia is flooding the market with oil, hoping to drive out competitors, including the u.s. >> saudi arabia is trying to undermine the u.s. shale oil production at the same time it's undermining iran and russia due to the violence we're seeing in the middle east. >> while u.s. oil production is booming, the highest in 20 years, our gas consumption has actually dropped to 40-year lows. as soon as i drove into
