enterovirus d-68 is speaking believely about the tragedy. the death of eli waller is the first in our area related to the virus. good evening. i'm rosemary connors. in a statement released late this afternoon, eli's father thanked the community for their outpouring of love and support here and his family have received. this comes as concerned members of that community in hamilton township, mercer county are stoat meet with officials to discuss the virus that claimed waller's life. that's where cydney long is live for us this evening. this is a large school district and many parents are concerned. >> rosemary, that is correct. hamilton township has four high schools. three middle schools and 17 elementary schools. so tonight's meeting here could be very well attended. as all teachers, parents, even custodial staff is invited to take part. this today as we learned that little 4-year-old eli waller has been a fighter from the beginning of his life. the youngest of triplets. his family is mourning his loss. >> oh, my gosh, my heart goes out to them. i'm so sorry to hear about it. >> reporter: an entire community is remembering eli waller. a little boy who loved his family, soccer and whose father says was a beautiful mix of eagerness and hesitancy. writing in part, my wife and i simply cannot thank you all enough for the roles you played to eli's life. while our hearts break at his passing, our hearts also overflow with overwhelming gratitude. it comes as school officials will answer questions tonight and explain that student attendance will be tracked in coming days. and any patterns of respiratory illness, districtwide, will be investigated. waller attended pm pre-k. another little boy who attends the morning session was also showing symptoms of entero virus d-68 but is now recovering home from the hospital. >> if i had my son in that school right now, i don't think i would send him back. >> the district is spending overtime to sanitize the classroom. >> they should tell us where it's spreading or where it's isolated. >> reporter: candice ash wants it revealed where all new jersey confirmed cases exist and not just by county. for dad mike who wasn't planning on going to the meeting, he says now he might. >> even on the most minute possibility, i think everybody should be informed. >> and rosemary, because there are nine other confirmed cases of enterovirus d-68 in eight counties in new jersey, we did ask the state health department if they'd be in attendance at tonight's meeting. they also say because of privacy laws they medical center in worcester for an apparent respiratory hin fection. they do not believe it's related to ebola but tests are under way to confirm that. in dallas, thomas duncan is fighting for his life. authorities have been able to locate a homeless man who needs to be monitored because he may have had contact with duncan. as for the freelance nbc news photographer who contracted ebola in liberia, he is currently flying to nebraska for treatment. it's a commencement controversy. students at a college in vermont just listened to a convicted philadelphia cop killer deliver their graduation address. >> dear fellow candidates, students, graduates, parents, professors, i thank you for your kind invitation to join you in voice today. i've been away from the college perhaps longer than most of you have been alive. >> that was mumia abu-jamal speaking in a prerecorded address to students at gottard college. he's currently serving flf prison for murdering dennis faulkner back in 1981 but he did not discuss his conviction during that address. he received a bachelors degree from gottard in 1986 while behind bars. here at home, philadelphia police officers protested abu-jamal's speech at the site where officer faulkner was married. that's where we find doug shimell. this was a silent demonstration? >> exactly. and a lot of folks here acknowledge that college is the place where you're expected to say and do shocking things as part of the learning process. for the friends and family of officer danny faulkner, they say inviting a convicted cop killer to give a graduation
