we're not looking for a washout on this saturday right? >> that's right. we're seeing the rain falling right now. it's moving out. we'll see clearing conditions and even sunshine by later on this morning. a changeable forecast this morning. a live look outside, what will stay with us that will be the winds all day long. we're seeing the winds right now and we'll see the winds later on this afternoon as well. in terms of a shower, they are moving out. you can see them mostly off to the east and mainly light stuff falling. right now we'll take a few hours before they're completely out of here and dry out. otherwise, a mild start to the day, actually temperatures dropping right now. to the north and west we're in the 40s, 48 in allentown, 48 in lancaster, 48 in pottstown. 54 right now in philadelphia. 57 in millville and 62 degrees in atlantic city. it is very windy outside. we're seeing winds gusting near 38 miles per hour. in mt. pocono 28 miles per hour in wilmington and up to 36 in millville. a windy day this morning and this afternoon. right now we're looking at cloudy skies, we're looking at rain falling in some parts of the area. by noon mostly sunny, 54 and by 3:00 the driver wanted in a deadly hit and run. that driver struck and killed a man along delaware avenue in the fishtown section of the city. nbc 10's jesse gary is live at the scene. let us know what you've learned. >> rosemary i've been talking to accident investigation division officers who say unfortunately this is not uncommon. one of the problems people tend to jay walk on delaware avenue. there's a crosswalk down this way but i've seen people walk crossing outside the crosswalk both here and further down in that direction. so people do crosswalk and if traffic is moving briskly, quickly, it can lead to a fatal accident. let's take a look at the video around 10:45. investigators say a man in his 20s was walking east across delaware avenue. he was hit and killed by the driver of an suv. the fatal collision happened in the 700 block of north delaware avenue near penn street. police are searching for the driver of the suv. the problem though they do not have a license plate or a real good description of the vehicle. the only thing they're telling me is that it is a dark-colored suv that sped off heading northbound on delaware avenue. so if you have information about that, you're asked to call police. we've been checking into some of the other fatal accidents here on delaware avenue as i mentioned. it's not an uncommon occurrence. we'll talk more about that at the bottom of the hour. live in fishtown jesse gary nbc 10 news. also new this morning in philadelphia dozens of crews battled an overnight fire in the city's kensington neighborhood. a blaze broke out in this two-story building of cambria street. the flames did not spread to the apartments above. one person was treated for smoke inhalation. but there are no other injuries. no word yet on the cause of this fire. breaking details just into the nbc 10 newsroom on the deadly university attack in kenya kenya. we learned a survivor was found on campus. kenyan medical staff say the 19-year-old woman was hiding in the college since thursday. the woman says she hit in a cup board and covered herself with clothes. she was too scared to come out when rescuers entered the building. at least 147 people were killed in the attack by islamic militants believed to be targeting christian students. four militants were killed by security forces to end the siege. last night, kenyan officials announced five arrests. back in our area today, we are learning more about the philadelphia woman arrested after investigators say she tried to join the terror group isis. keonna thomas appeared before a federal judge yesterday. she has no criminal history and is a mother of young children. but federal prosecutors sa i she left an online trail of radicalized postings going back nearly two years. according to authorities she planned to leave her home on north tenth street and join isis in syria. the trip never happened. >> it's just a shame. you never know who you're living next to. >> thomas is being held without bail and is expecteded back in court on wednesday. she could face up to 15 years in prison. investigators say this arrest in philadelphia is not related to a case in new york where two women are charged with plotting a terror attack. prosecutors say they were inspired by isis. the women appeared in court on thursday and were held without bail. according to authorities they wanted to pull off a terror attack like the boston marathon bombings. now to a developing story out of louisiana. police officers there is being treated at a hospital after being wounded in a shootout. it happened in the town of slidell, about a half hour outside of new orleans. according to police the officer was responding to a disturbance when shots were fired. the suspect took off but was captured by a canine officer. police said the man was wounded. a viewing for mark hudson will begin at 10:00, funeral services follow at st. joseph's church in collingdale. after the service there will be a motorcade that will pass both the yadin firehouse and darby police station. hudson worked as both a part-time police officer and a volunteer firefighter. police say officer hudson was off duty when he was shot to death with his own service gun. it happened inside of his house in glenolden last saturday. hudson's girlfriend, tianna finch is charged with his murder. police were already holding finch from an assault on hudson last summer. today is holy saturday, the final day of lent and holy week leading up to easter sunday. this is a live look over the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul. there are no masses today. they will happen later on this evening. that's when the archbishop will celebrate the easter vigil mass at 8:00 tonight. yesterday, christians marked good friday. they observed the stations of the cross. artists presented different works representing the stations which refer to the events of the day when christians believed that jesus was crucified. good friday is one of the holiest days on the christian calendar. this morning people of the jewish faith are observing the eight-day festival of passover. it began last night at sundown. one montgomery county family is marking the holiday with a milestone. the black family of horsham held their 100th passover seder which commemorates the ancient hebrews escape from slavery. passover continues through next shortly. we'll start a clearing pattern as we head throughout the afternoon. zooming in closer we have packets of moderate rainfall. for the most part light showers in burlington county, even parts of central delaware. winds gusting all day long to 28 mile per hours in philadelphia. up to 38 mile per hours in mt. pocono 30 mile per hour win gusts in dover. this wind will stay with us throughout the afternoon. we're still seeing winds gusting 31 miles per hour in mt. pocono, 32 miles per hour in philadelphia. it will be a windy day. showers in place right now. clearing skies as we head throughout the afternoon. clearing and windy today 55 to 58. right around normal for this time of year winds out of the northwest 20 to 30 miles per hour. we'll talk more about today's forecast the easter forecast and then rain in your seven-day in just a few minutes. >> looking forward to it. a new survey shows that the u.s. has more than 61,000 structurally deficient bridges and pennsylvania has the most of any state in the country. the american road and transportation builders association says that legislative action needs to be taken now to begin improving these bridges or the problems could get much worse. structurally deficient doesn't necessarily mean unsafe but it does mean repairs are needed. pennsylvania has the most structurally deficient bridges in the country, more than 5,000. new jersey has more than 600. in delaware 48 bridges. indianapolis is gearing up for the final four this weekend. but basketball won't be the only thing in the spotlight. the message protesters want to get across to a national audience. and hung out to dry, this sky high experience that a former phillies pitcher says may have been tougher than his job on the mound. that's coming up. this weekend, gay rights activists are planning to rally in indianapolis, the site of the ncaa tournament's final four. it's in protest to indiana's controversial religious rights law which some argue could have allowed businesses to discriminate against the lgbt community. gay rights advocates say they want to see a bill that specifically prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation. hi i'm amy heard from the ace. despite many baseball expert's opinion that the deck is stacked again the phillies when it comes to team chemistry, hamels thinks the team has a better hand to play this year. >> there's a lot of hidden moments behind the schemes of team work and camaraderie. i think guys are finally starting to pick that up and be a little bit more together opposed to the direction we were last year. there's a good cohesiveness that you can sense. i really feel like the clubhouse has really been a lot more enjoyable this spring. >> nbc 10 is your place for the phillies home opener on to announce her run for the white house. this is nbc 10 news. the chief of staff to pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane has resigned from his post. yesterday, blake rutherford announced it was his last day after four months on the job. he start work next month at philadelphia based law firm cozen o'connor. kane said it has been a pleasure to have someone of blake's caliber serving the commonwealth as chief of staff at the attorney general. i congratulate blake and wish him well in this endeavor. the state supreme court upheld the appointment of a special prosecutor who led a grand jury investigation into kane. they are being charged that kane be charged with perjury and other offenses. the case is in the hands of risa ferman. kane maintains she didn't break any law. hillary clinton has signed a lease at a building in new york that analysts believe could be her campaign headquarters. a person familiar with the plan says clinton signed the lease for two floors in a brooklyn heights office. according to political insiders clinton is expected to announce she's running for president in the coming weeks. now to the race for philadelphia mayor. the candidates are getting ready to scare off in a debate next week. they'll answer questions ranging from education funding to pension payments. nbc 10 and telemundo 62 is proud to partner with the greater philadelphia chamber of commerce to host the debate for philadelphia mayor. it will be held on tuesday night at the kimmel center. jim rosenfield will moderate the debate which you can watch right here on nbc 10. on this saturday. meteorologist michelle grossman is watching the weekend weather for us. it sounds like the rain the showers not going to be an issue today but the wind will be a little bit of a problem. >> exactly. we're seeing the showers falling right now. they are moving out of here. the wind is blowing right now. that will stick around all day long. not really weakening until tonight. let's take a look outdoors. we are looking at mostly cloudy skies in some spots, clouds in another, we're looking at showers in some spots. a gloomy view from our adventure aquarium camera. that picture should quickly change over the next few hours as we see sunshine returning. showers are moving out. you can see this two-hour loop on radar, showing us they're moving quickly. spsooming in closer we're seeing showers in parts of ocean county burlington county and cumberland county. these should move out over the next hour or so. up to 16 miles per hour in allentown, up to 29 miles per hour in dover. we'll see those winds blowing all day long. along with clearing skies throughout the morning, windy, windy, windy throughout the morning and afternoon hours. winds gusting near 40 miles per hour. getting better today in terms of cloud cover. tomorrow, it will be breezy. rain is in the seven-day. we'll look at in a few minutes. philadelphia police are looking for the hit and run driver who struck and killed a man and took off. this haed last night along delaware avenue in the fishtown section of the city. nbc 10's jesse gary has been following the developments in the investigation and joins us live from the scene. jesse. >> reporter: one of the things investigators are struggling with is a description for the vehicle. all though know is it's an suv traveling northbound on delaware avenue. it struck the victim and kept on going. this happened around 10:45 last night. investigators say the 20-year-old was walking east across delaware avenue when he was hit by the suv traveling northbound on delaware right near penn street. investigators say he was pronounced dead at the scene. now they are searching to are this vehicle. unfortunately, i'm told by police this is not an uncommon occurrence here on delaware avenue. it's happened many times before, including back in 2008 there was a picture of hanna cintron. back in '08 she was killed kind of in the same way. she was leaving a club on delaware avenue walking the opposite way from west to east -- from east to west the opposite way across the street when she was hit by a pickup truck traveling northbound on delaware avenue as well. the driver sped off but in that case someone followed behind -- called police got the license plate and they were able to arrest that driver and he was charged with vehicular homicide in this case. unfortunately the 20-year-old lost her life in that accident. this is a common occurrence doesn't happen every day but it does happen here on delaware avenue. portions it's dark and sometimes people do jay walk. they don't use the crosswalks. traffic on delaware avenue does sometimes move quickly. investigators still searching for that suv from late last judge yesterday. she has no criminal history and is the mother of young children. federal prosecutors say she left an online trail going back two years. she planned to join isis in syria. thomas is expected to back in court on wednesday. in new york several people are under arrest after this massive brawl at resorts world casino. about 300 people were involved in the group fight last night. witnesses say that they were throwing punches and chairs. officers arrested three people. there were no serious injuries but the casino took on thousands of dollars worth of damage. investigators are now looking into whether this fight was gang related. seeking closure and justice, family and friends gathered at a vigil in vineland to remember the man who died while in police custody. it's a case that has some members of the community accusing the police of excessive force. an attorney is launching an independent investigation into the death of phillip white of cumberland county and this morning, we're getting a better look at what happened. take a look. this is newly released cell phone video. it shows the final moments of phillip white's life while in the custody of vineland police. investigators say they were responding to a report of a disorderly person. nbc 10 spoke to a high-ranking law enforcement official not connected with the case. he's criticizing vineland police for threatening to take the witness' cell phone away. >> did you see what happened here? >> uh-huh. >> all of it? i'll need your information. i'm going to take your phone. >> the cumberland county prosecutor says his office is awaiting toxicology tests. new this morning, a heads up for house hunters, the top five list of local suburbs that experts say is prime real estate for prospective come up with a list of the top philadelphia suburbs for young people. here they are. these are the top five according to m 0. voto. drexel hill, pennsylvania, is number one. laurel springs, new jersey devon, pennsylvania and king of prussia, pennsylvania and cherry hill new jersey comes in at number five. the medium home value and household income was taken into consideration. the camden county government plans to buy campbell's field for $3.5 million. the stadium has been home to the camden river sharks minor league team since 2001. the camden county spokesperson says stadium revenue will be used to pay for the new deal which is set to close over this summer. the florida developer who's buying the former revel casino now says he has a much bigger vision to redevelop atlantic city. it involves acquiring another bankrupt casino. after winning approval to buy revel, glenn straub put up more money in hopes of acquiring the show boat casino. he says the deal would be part of his $500 million plan to redevelop the city. the plan is called the phoenix project. if approved the move would turn the show boat into a branch campus of stockton university but trump entertainment says not so fast. even though stockton bought the building there's a legal agreement requiring show boat to operate only as a casino. from our delaware bureau if you spend time at the beach you'll have to spend more to park this summer. bethany has increased the price of street parking to $1.75. the money is needed to pay for additional services for visitors. rehoboth, you'll pay $2 an hour up 50 cents from last year. that money will go toward replacing parking meters. 6:42. personal information of local patients handed over to thieves. next, new information on the impact of a data breach at the philadelphia fire department. plus finally home. a missing sailor reunites with his parents after 66 days at sea. next, the rescued man describes how he's doing after the ordeal. in philadelphia dozens of people are under arrest after a major drug sweep in one of the city's most notorious drug zones. police have charged 60 people with selling or buying crack, heroin and marijuana in spots like kensington and north philadelphia. officers also confiscated two dozen vehicles in the sweep. neighbors we spoke with say they are happy to hear about the arrests. >> people don't want to be around you know. >> the drugs, they need to clean up around here. >> police tell us this is just the start of cracking down on areas known for drug crimes. a former lower moreland high school teacher who admitted to having sex with a student will spend 30 days behind bars. erica ginnetti pleaded guilty last december. ginnetti confessed to having sex with a 17-year-old student on several oaks. she'll begin serving her sentence later on this month. in new jersey state police have identified the remains of a woman who vanished nearly a decade ago, this after her body turned up in burlington county. stacey grader disappeared in 2006 while riding her bike to the store. hunters found her body in a wooded section of pemberton township. investigators are now trying to figure just how she died. police hope that somebody with information will come forward. some people in philadelphia are rallying around a convicted cop killer and it all has to do with his health. mumia abu-jamal is back behind bars following a hospital stay to treat complications related to diabetes. yesterday in center city about 15 of his supporters and family members protested in front of the district attorney's office. they believe abu-jamal is not getting proper medical care. abu-jamal, a former radio reporter is behind bars for the 1982 shooting that killed a philadelphia police officer. he shot and killed officer daniel faulkner during a routine traffic stop. abu-jamal claims that he is isn't innocent. >> we want the medical necessary health care for our brother, mumia abu-jamal. >> supporters are demanding daily visits with abu-jamal. this morning, we are learning the scope of a data breach involving the philadelphia fire department three years after it happened. names, birth dates and social security numbers were all taken illegally. investigators say an employee of advanced data processing gave patient information to a theft ring. that company handles billing services for ambulance agencies across the country including ems services for the philadelphia fire department. the fire department's independent investigation revealed that the employee accessed information of 750 patients who used ems services on april 1st and 2nd of 2012. that's in addition to the four months worth of information stolen from ems patients between february and october of 2012. right now, it's still drop before it rebounds later on this afternoon. also seeing showers falling right now. most of that is close to the coast, weather headlines on your saturday, showers ending we have showers over the past few hours, really all night long but they're moving off the coast. we'll see sunshine by later on today. clearing skies through the morning and wind it's windy right now. the winds stay with us all day long. mostly cloudy in philadelphia 52 winds out of the northwest at 18 miles per hour. radar showing us that most of the shower activity right along the coast. that's the good news there. moving very very fast. we're still seeing showers in parts of ocean county, atlantic county, into cumberland county. that's about it. otherwise we're drying out. we're looking at the temperatures dropping just a few hours ago, 61 in philadelphia, now at 52. 48 in allentown, 62 in atlantic city and 55 in dover. those winds are really gusting to 38 miles per hour in mt. pocono up to 35 in philadelphia. gusting to 31 mile per hours in millville. this will be the story as we head throughout the afternoon. it's windy now, it will be windy later on this afternoon. the showers move out, we clear out, bring back sunshine. we'll be windy all day long. that's your main weather headline by 3:00 this afternoon. this evening, we start to see the skies clear overnight. we see the winds dropping that will have to drop the temperatures near the freezing mark tonight. remember that for your sunrise services on easter sun. later on sunday breezy not windy like today. winds out of the west at 5 to 15 miles per hour. the clouds come in later on sunday. overall, a nice easter forecast. today, clearing and boyney winds out of the northwest at 20 to 30 miles an hour gusting closer to upper 60s. >> severe weather to our south this morning in kentucky, the search is on for a missing mother and her child. after they were swept away by flash floodwaters. wave after wave of heavy rain pounded louisville starting thursday night and continuing into yesterday. the woman and her child were stranded in a car on the highway, rescue workers lost sight of them and the two have not been seen since. crews made 160 water rescues during the flooding. now to a survival story that has everybody talking. a man lost at sea for more than two months is recovering this morning and he is on solid ground. he vanished after going fishing on his sailboat in january. he was rescued thursday by a crew on a german cargo ship. they spotted him sitting on his capsized boat off the coast of income be in. the coast guard air lifted him from the tanker and then took him to the hospital. now jordan is happy to be back at home with his family. >> i feel blessed and full of love and grateful to be with my family. and with people again. >> and there comes a time when you wonder if they could still be out there surviving, you know? >> yes. >> and i always prayed that somebody would find him and they did. >> jordan says he survived by catching fish and drinking rain water. he is expected to make a complete recovery and plans to write a book about his ordeal. we'll be right back. yeah, i'm
