work, it's all coming up in my first alert seven-day forecast. new from overnight, philadelphia police are investigating a shooting in east german town. it happened on the 2000 block of maderi avenue. a man was shot in the leg. responding officers took the man to einstein medical center. no word on a suspect or a motive in the shooting. philadelphia police are investigating another shooting in the city's belmont neighborhood. this happened just before 12:30 on north 42nd street. a 42-year-old man was shot several times in the leg here. he is in stable condition. so far, no arrests. today in central new jersey, a vigil will take place for the alleged victims in a scandal involving football players. the event is scheduled for 6:00 tonight across the street from the high school in middlesex county. a seventh student has surrendered to face sex crime charges in the hazing scandal. prosecutors say freshman team members were hazed and harassed by upper classmen and that some of the attacks were sexual in nature. the defendants range from 15 to 17 years old. the school's entire football season has been cancelled. the infectious disease conference at the pennsylvania convention center will wrap up. experts from across the country have been gathered here since wednesday. they talked about treating and preventing a wide range of diseases with a focus on ebola and enterovirus d68. new york's jfk airport is now screening passengers arriving from west african countries that have been affected by the ebola outbreak. the customs and border patrol released these photos yesterday of agents at work. they're using no-touch thermometers to take the temperature of the passengers from liberia, sierra leone and guinea. these screenings will add an extra layer of protection against a disease that has already killed more than 4,000 people. next week, the stepped up screenings will begin at other major international hubs including washington dulles, chicago o'hare, atlanta, and newark. philadelphia international is not included in this list because there are no flights from west africa. the nbc cameraman being treated for ebola continues to show modest improvement. doctors at the nebraska medical center where he is being treated say that he is still very weak, but his condition has improved since friday. he is receiving an experimental drug and iv fluids. he was as well as answers to your health questions. this weekend there's an effort in our area to help people in liberia, one of the countries most affected by the outbreak. yesterday, donations and supplies poured in to the church in philadelphia. monique braxton was there and spoke to some people personally affected by the ebola crisis. >> reporter: lisa hopkins is one of 300 volunteers we saw packing donated items for liberians impacted by the deadly ebola virus. but for hopkins this is more than an outreach event. it's personal. her mother was from liberia. >> we lost an uncle august 28th. not so much with ebola, but the complications he got from respiratory failure and none of the medical clinics had oxygen to keep him alive. so that's why i'm here. >> reporter: hopkins also says she's overwhelmed by this response, knowing the donors can't imagine how her family is living in the midst of the ebola outbreak. >> all the schools have been shut down, so the children can't go to school. my aunt and my cousins have to go to work. they have to wear layers of clothing and gloves. >> reporter: our camera was rolling when nonperishable food and cleaning products began arriving. >> sickness anywhere is a threat to health everywhere. as the continent of africa goes, so goes the african diaspara. as a person of faith, wherever there is hurting, we have to bring healing. >> reporter: melvin payne is a missionary that travels to africa two to four times a year. any special precautions you'll take going to a country where thousands have died from ebola? >> the precaution that we take and we believe in is first prayer, because we know that our lord and savior will be the one that will keep us whole and keep us from all types of harm. >> reporter: he has partnered with the mission, and monday boxes will be shipped to a school in liberia. monique braxton, nbc 10 news. it was a three-car crash caused by an underaged driver. that's according to philadelphia police who responded to the scene of the crash at 19th street. witnesses told police that a young boy was behind the wheel of a white sudan when he hit another car. he then allegedly rammed into a parked car and nearly plowed into an apartment building. police are still looking for the boy who ran from the scene along with several passengers. a woman inside the other car was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries. another underaged driver in lehigh county is accused of stealing a car, then causing a crash and fleeing from police. the crash happened around 11:00 yesterday morning at the intersection of airport road and race street. police located the 14-year-old driver and the car just before 2:00 yesterday afternoon and bridge and front streets. they tried to speak with him, but they say he took off, crashed into a building before being arrested. the trouble keeps coming for acme supermarkets. two scores in our area are closing. both stores are in bucks county. acme says 130 employees work at both stores, but they're hoping to find them new jobs at nearby locations. the stores will close on november 13th. this news comes after acme reported a data breach just two weeks ago. the countdown is on for the most anticipated eagles game of the season so far. the birds will take on the giants on "sunday night football" right here on nbc 10. the "sunday night football" bus will arrive at xfinity live a little bit later on today at 3:30 this afternoon. fans will be able to tour the bus right up until game time at 830. yesterday football lovers snapped selfies on the building used to house a printing company, but it's been vacant for years. a stolen dog is back in her owner's arms this morning. chih chih was stolen by two men during a burglary in july in north philadelphia. they were caught on this surveillance video walking the dog away from the house, along with a tv and an xbox. earlier this week, a woman came forward to police saying she found the dog, but it turned out that after checking the microchip, it was not chichi. this weekend, the owner got another call and this time she was happy to be reunited with her little dog. she went to thank the man who found her pet. >> it's tough, like i didn't know what to do and i had to lay low because i didn't know if the people who had her were mad enough to hurt her. >> the dog be licking on my son and he wanted to go to sleep with my son, so it's going to be real sad for my son. i can't even think of a way to tell him without him crying. >> they can always visit the dog. henry collins there owns the mecca unisex salon. he says he bought the dog from a temple student who said he was moving. then he saw the story of the stolen dog and realized that candy was actually chichi. police are morning at 10:30 right here on nbc 10. this weekend marks 180 days since hundreds of nigerian girls were abducted from their school by islamic militants. in nigeria's capital, the sad milestone was marked by a candle light procession. some girls escaped from their captors, but more than 200 girls are still missing and are believed to be held by a militant group known as boko haram. the islamists offered a prisoner swap to release the girls last may, but the proposal was rejected by the government. a so-called weekend of resistance is under way in missouri to protest the shooting of michael brown back in august. marchers rallied just outside of busch stadium in st. louis where the cardinals hosted a playoff game this weekend. police and protesters also faced off in nearby ferguson, missouri, where brown was killed. authorities say the demonstrations this weekend have so far been peaceful. >> officers on bikes riding through the crowd. that's the message. let's all be respectful of everybody. >> at this point, i'm a little at peace. i'm not angry. i mean, you know, upset maybe. >> michael brown was not armed when he was shot to death by a ferguson police officer, darren wilson. a grand jury continues to review evidence in that case. so far, no charges. out west, police have made an arrest in the case of a wildfire that devastated one northern california town. the fire raced through the lumber town of weed, destroying 150 structures, most of them homes. officers arrested 24-year-old ronald bo marshall for allegedly starting that fire. he's now being held on $250,000 bail. no word yet on a motive. now to decision 2014. one candidate hoping to be pennsylvania's next governor is getting the backing of the first lady. michelle obama will campaign in philadelphia this week for democratic candidate tom wolf. she'll appear in an event on wednesday at the dorothy emanuel recreation center in northwest philadelphia. wolf is hoping to unseat current pennsylvania governor tom corbett. election day is now just 23 days away. you can head to the polls on november 4th to cast your vote for pennsylvania's next governor. people across the country and in our area will honor fallen firefighters today. all pennsylvania and u.s. flags will fly at half staff from sunrise to sunset. more than 100 firefighters killed in the line of duty will be remembered at the national fallen firefighters memorial service tonight in maryland. this weekend, people in philadelphia found out how to get covered. an information session was held yesterday morning at temple philadelphia right now, mostly clear skies. our temperatures at 47 degrees. our humidity is at 83%. we're about six degrees cooler right now than this time yesterday. so a chilly start to the morning. take a look at the poconos. 33 degrees. 36 in allentown. 39 in pottstown. 45 in westchester. 47 in philadelphia. our average overnight low is closer to 50 degrees. 45 currently in atlantic city, and then stone harbor at 50 degrees. this is the frost advisory, it's going to stay in effect until 8:00 a.m., and that's because temperatures dropping down in the low to mid 30s, so if you have any sensitive plants, hopefully move them inside. our radar shot shows that we're just showing a few clouds, a few thin clouds but it's mostly clear throughout most of our region. so right along the i-95 corridor, temperatures in the 40s. we'll see plenty of sunshine as we head into the rest of today, and so nice conditions expected for the eagles game. we'll see clouds increasing and also a slight chance of showers as we head into monday, which is columbus day. and then you'll notice the clouds continuing on and off throughout tuesday. another spotty chance of showers. our better chance of showers comes wednesday lingering into thursday. so you'll notice that we'll see an unsettled weather pattern as we head into next week. our temperatures today will range between 62 and 64. cold it. a warming trend as we head back into next week with a chance of showers. today in philadelphia, the first ever old city fest. this is right in my neighborhood and organizers are already getting ready for the event. crews were out just a few hours ago shurting down roads, and some people were already setting up their tents. i actually had to divert my route into work because these roads were shut down. the first annual old city fest will feature shopping, live entertainment, food and design showcases. it runs from noon until 6:00 tonight. the competition for better coverage. a look at the
