that did not pan out. one day after the neighboring sh showboat closed its doors, only the casino at revel is still open until 6:00 a.m. on this last night, it seems the tune in atlantic city is changing. the music thundered across the boardwalk this evening, a final blowout at revel's hq nightclub almost as if nothing had changed. how was the last party? >> amazing, awesome. >> reporter: just around the corner at an employee exit, a stark contrast. we caught up with these three men walking home from their final shift. >> it was your job. a job away from being homeless. >> reporter: is that how you feel tonight. >> that's how everybody is feeling. >> reporter: pablo supports a family of three and joins the 6,000 newly jobless casino workers in the city with the closing of showboat yesterday and trump plaza later this month. what was the mood in there? >> we don't have no more jobs, just like that, straightforward, we're closing. >> reporter: earlier today, we watched as crews dismantled marquee side and found out a group of high-end investors were rejected in their offer to buy revel this weekend. by this evening, the last minute gawkers arrived. >> we had to. we heard about it closing in so we thought just dropping by. >> reporter: for dance music rained, this evening we heard a somber new tune. as employees left nearly in tears. >> it's just like my second home here. >> reporter: now you hear her talking about her second home here. through the windows you can see some of the slot machines. no one appears to be playing there. the nightclub and restaurants inside the revel were owned by outside partners, but they have been closed, too, at least for now. it is hard to believe this $2 billion casino never turned a profit. we're live tonight on the boardwalk in atlantic city, george spencer, nbc 10 news. and once revel's can casino go, trump plaza will be the next domino to fall. it closes for good september 16th. showboat shut down yesterday. area return to their classrooms over the next week. many of them tomorrow. nbc 10's lu ann cahn is live in plymouth meeting where a last-minute shopping rush just ended. a busy night for them, lu ann. >> reporter: very busy. i was speaking to the manager of the office depot behind me. he said it may be labor day but feels like christmas to them. this is the busiest day of the year for them because everyone's got a list and they're checking it twice. >> my notebooks, binders. pens, pencils. >> reporter: what you got there? >> i got a book bag. >> reporter: and stores were stocked and ready because they knew. >> yes, we waited until the last minute and had to come back twice today. >> they didn't find a list. >> reporter: from willow grove -- >> i didn't know what i needed. >> reporter: -- to plymouth meeting. >> we were on vacation and just got back. >> reporter: everyone had an excuse. why did you wait until the last minute? >> because we got a puppy. >> reporter: hmm. okay. here's a legitimate excuse. >> the first time we've had to go around the process of getting everything for school. >> reporter: apparently in england, schools supply everything for the kids. welcome to america. >> a lot more troublesome for parents. >> reporter: indeed. >> i had to get, like, seven notebooks like this and they only let you get these ones. i don't know why. >> i bought something and then i lost it so then i had to come back and buy it again. >> we do have some good deals around last minute. >> reporter: you waited until the last minute. >> well, it was either that or leave vetner and get off the beach. >> reporter: the bottom line is this simple truth. how come you waited? >> because it was summer and i was having fun. >> reporter: stores are hoping they'll have another busy going to help kids get out of summer mode at all. first alert meteorologist sheena parveen is tracking the all important bus stop forecast. >> yeah, jacqueline, the weather in the morning is going to be warm. it is definitely going to feel like summer. so your bus stop forecast, we're going to keep it warm through the entire morning hours. really no cool spot in the morning and it's also going to stay humid. 7:00 in the morning, mostly sunny. near 70. 8:00, near 80 degrees. same thing as we go closer to 9:00 in the morning. so it is going to be very warm. take a look at the feels like temperature. the heat index. as we go through the day tomorrow. it's going to feel like the mid 90s. so it's definitely going to feel like the middle of summer and the heat doesn't end with tomorrow. we have a lot of hot days in the forecast. then we get a big cool down, too. so i'll show you the numbers coming up. breaking news. a drive-by shooting in the nicetown section of philadelphia less than an hour ago. police say someone in a bmw or mercedes opened fire on a man on west bristol street. the victim was shot twice and rushed to the hospital. he is in stable condition. police are looking for that vehicle. a driver was killed in bucks county after a car ran off the road and slammed into a tree. nbc 10 on foulk road in bethel township tonight. police tell us the driver was the only person in the car at the time. no other cars were involved. and there's no word yet on what caused that crash. tomorrow, a vigil will be held at a bucks county high school to honor the three teenagers killed in a car crash when an suv overturned. the accident happened saturday morning near the poconos. the victims are shamus digney, coll collin, and ryan. about to enter their sophomore year at council rock high school south. today hundreds of students and staff members gathered at the school to mourn the loss of these student athletes. >> everyone was crying. just very sad. like, tears everywhere. no one really wanted to talk about it. >> there are no words to speak the loss and as a school community, we just reach out to the parents and let them know that we're there for them and that we are just horribly affected by the loss of these three great kids. >> school leaders say the teenagers played soccer, lacrosse, and basketball at council rock south and today we received a statement from ryan lesher's family that says we're overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support. ryan was a truly special young man and we're deeply devastated by his loss. our hearts and prayers go out to the digney and keffer families. a 15-year-old girl remains on life support after a crash in atlantic county this weekend. ashlynn cook was critically injured. she and four soccer teammates were on their way to a charity tournament when their car was hit saturday morning. tomorrow, mainland regional high school in lynnwood will hold a special assembly to provide support and information to students. counselors will also be made available. school starts thursday. new at 11:00, a building collapsed in philadelphia's kingsessing neighborhood and damaged at least two cars. nbc 10 on woodland avenue tonight where the second floor of the dominion christian fellowship center crashed on to the first floor. the sidewalk is now covered in debris. the building was empty and no one was hurt. also new tonight, an upsetting labor day surprise for nearly a dozen car owners in philadelphia's lawncrest section who woke up to find their cars smashed. and tonight the culprit is unknown. nbc 10's keith jones has more. >> reporter: it happened here in the 5200 block of f street. police say somebody took a sharp instrument and bashed in the windshield here and nine other cars. i talked to these car owners. they say the damage is going to cost them thousands of dollars. >> money down the drain right there. you know, very upset about the situation. >> reporter: this whole neighborhood is upset. a line of cars and trucks the suspect hitting every one. >> it looks like somebody hit it with a hammer and digged in there pretty good. >> $250, $300 out of my pocket, man. i got three little kids. so it's not easy. >> reporter: joe noticed the damage to his car first thing this morning, but says it doesn't surprise him. >> my mom's car got stolen out here, other neighbors' cars got stolen and vandalized. >> going to cost upwards of $300, $400 for that windshield, you know, it's very upsetting. >> reporter: they say it's hard to smile this labor day because businesses are closed meaning no one will come out to fix their vehicles. >> i can't afford to keep turning it into my insurance company and they still haven't resolved anything. >> reporter: longtime resident debby paladino spent thousands of dollars on repairs to her cars. she's pushing police for more frequent patrols as they continue to investigate this latest case of vandalism. >> i got to worry tonight when i come out, is my car going to be vandalized? >> reporter: in lawncrest, keith jones, nbc 10 news. two people have been busted for stealing from cars in new castle county, delaware. holly robinski and charles were arrested yesterday. police say they broke into cars in bear, wilmington and greenville over the last week stealing electronics and credit cards. they face burglary, theft, and conspiracy charges. the cleanup continues tonight after this weekend's made in america music festival on the ben franklin parkway. crews are still busy trying to get that parkway back to normal tonight. even though rain did put a bit of a damper on yesterday's festivities, more than 80,000 fans came out for the two-day festival to see dozens of musical acts. six people were arrested during the event. although police didn't say why they were arrested. five of those arrests were on concert grounds. the other happened just outside the venue. ♪ for made in america's first year on the west coast, there were fewer fans but more arrests. 80 people were arrested or received citations on juf the second day alone at grand park in los angeles. 29 arrests were reported saturday. while the number of ticketholders jumped on the second day, only about 72,000 people attended the concerts in l.a. compared to our 80,000. fast food workers are demanding a raise. today they marched in the 27th annual tri-state labor day parade which wrapped up at penns landing. the group wanted to call attention for a fight for a wage increase to $15 an hour. they also want the right to form a union. on thursday, fast food workers from this area will gather again for a rally in center city. tonight, action in ferguson, missouri. next, the new change coming to the police department after an officer shot and killed an unarmed teenager, sparking protest. and another hot and humid day tomorrow. i'm still tracking a chance for thunderstorms. and also, if we could see a heatwave later this week. philadelphia dry cleaners overnight. nbc 10 was there as the family who owns award cleaners at ridge avenue arrived to see their business in flames. we returned about six hours later and firefighters were still hitting the building with water. one of its longtime customers described this as a loss for the entire community. no one was hurt in the fire. after the holiday off, the trial resumes tomorrow for a philadelphia woman accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl. prosecutors are expected to call forensics and law enforcement experts to the stand tomorrow. christina regusters is accused of abducting the kindergartner from her cobbs creek elementary school in january 2013. she maintains she is not guilty and expected to take the stand in her own defense. tonight, british lawmakers are considering giving police more power to fight the threat of terrorism. a new proposal from prime minister david cameron would allow police to confiscate passports of british nationals who are suspected of traveling overseas to fight with terrorist groups. hundreds of britains with suspected of going to syria and iraq to join forces with islamic state terrorists. last week, authorities raised britain's terror threat level saying an attack was highly likely. police in ferguson, missouri, have started wearing body cameras. they first began wearing the devices saturday during a protest march in memory of michael brown. the unarmed teenager was shot and killed by ferguson police officer darren wilson last month. his death sparked weeks of protests and riots. ferguson's police chief says each officer on the force will get a body camera and almost everyone is already trained. on this labor day, an event for those who are out of work. nbc 10 in spring garden this evening where volunteers at chosen 300 ministries held a labor day meal for the homeless in center city. it's an interdenominational ministry that hands out more than 100,000 meals a year to the homeless population. tonight's event also included a worship service. philadelphia students celebrated some of their final days of summer at a back to school fair and block party in north philadelphia. the event sponsored by the one day at a time program featured food and music and supplied 100 backpacks with school supplies for students. now, your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, fair blue swim club in north wilmington earlier. large crowds and the smell of barbecue meant a bittersweet end to the long holiday weekend along with brandywine river, we saw families out for a tube ride or just for a cool splash for the unofficial end to summer. and it will certainly keep feeling like summer as we go through this weekend. we could even see heatwave that might be borderline, though. today we did not hit 90 degrees but either way have more heat and humidity in the forecast tomorrow and the heat continues through the entire week. so, again, we could see a heatwave, but we need three consecutive days of 90 degree-plus temperatures and that would have to start with tomorrow possibly. cooler air, though, as we go through the seven-day forecast. we're going to be in the 70s for high temperatures, but not until about the end of the week or early next week. i'll show you that in a second. right now, philadelphia, near 80 degrees. feels like 82 when you factor in the humidity. it's really warm for this time of evening. through the lehigh valley, mid 70s right now. 80 degrees in ben say hem. south jersey, delaware, temperatures from the mid to upper 70s. for this time of evening, this is very warm. legal locally, we are dry. to our west, you notice a few areas of light showers. this may develop into something as we go overnight tonight. we could see a few showers moving through the area. farther off to west, north swwe we have more moisture but wouldn't expect this until late tomorrow. here's what future weather is showing, picking up on the showers i showed you well to our west trying to move them in over the next several hours. maybe 2:00, 3:00 in the morning we could see some rain moving through. shouldn't impact the morning commute, though. we should be staying dry for that. here's 9:00. through the day tomorrow, we'll be dry most of the day. and sunny most of the day, too. hot and humid. 6:00 tomorrow even iing, a few showers. late in the night tomorrow, 9:00 to 11:00 p.m., we could see thunderstorms move into parts of the lehigh valley or poconos. of course, we'll keep you updated on that. as far as the shore goes for tomorrow, 89 for the high temperature. hot and humid there. could see a late shower or storm. this wouldn't be until very late at night. wednesday and thursday look pretty good. temperatures mid to low 80s. for tonight, mild and muggy. chance of a late shower, mostly overnight tonight. 73 for the low in philadelphia. 67 degrees areas north and west. when you wake up in the morning. them tomorrow afternoon, a hot, humid day. temperatures ranging anywhere from the mid to low 90s possibly and will be feeling hotter when you factor in the humidity. chance of late-day thunderstorms. these are mostly going to be late evening or nighttime storms. it looks like your best chance may be north and west of philadelphia. look at wednesday. maybe 90 degrees. we could just be in the upper 80s. we'll have to watch those numbers. all you need is three consecutive days of 90 degree-plus temperatures. we're borderline with that in the seven-day forecast. there's a chance we could hit a heatwave. either way wednesday through friday looks dry then we're possibly in the upper 70s on sunday. >> what a change. i can't believe it took this long for it to really feel like summer. labor day. >> i know. can you believe it? end of summer. >> yeah, took a long time for it to come around. the phillies are coming around, too. nice to see that. let's check in with was two up and that's the first time i realized it and i was like, all right. phillies have also called up top prospect maikal franco. he'll play for the phillies tomorrow. the eagles season opener is
